What I have always missed for years and years is a field for the cd number. And the associated entry in the wizard. Unfortunately it is not a tag in lame but other apps like clementine can set it (and it is even used in mpd to order tracks for example).

adding cover image and albumartist field would be nice

album artist is used by Amarok (iirc) in setting up collection

Yes, but has to wait for a later version.

A generic cover fetch for kde would be nice as we have a few apps for that (amarok, kid, audex, ka...)

as best as I can tell Amarok and Audex use pretty much the same code for cover retrieval (though currently Audex's version is broke)

The last release (1.2.90) does not include translations, though KAudioCreator is translated into many languages: http://l10n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk-kde4/po/kaudiocreator.po/

Updated blog post about Kaudiocreator: http://linuxgrandma.blogspot.com/2010/04/kaudiocreator-returns-in-kde4.html

In short, now available as part of kdemultimedia; PPA no longer needed.

Kaudiocreator is now available from K/ubuntu, as part of kdemultimedia: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+search?text=kaudiocreator

No need to build from source unless you want to. The maintainer can be reached on kde-apps: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KAudioCreator?content=107645

"svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/extragear/multimedia/kaudiocreator" is an address for a revision control system for sourcecode (not only but mainly used for code) called subversion. With that address you can "check out" the sourcecode of an application to compile it yourself. Instruction how to do it are usually given along with the address.

But for your question about how to install kaudiocreator. How to install the program if you don't want to compile it yourself depends on your distribution. From the apt-get I guess you are either on debian or ubuntu. No idea...maybe it's easier to use a graphical frontend for the package manager like aptitude or synaptic.

If you are using ubuntu you can take a look here:
https://launchpad.net/~blca/+archive/published

To build form sources:
unpack
create in the same directory a directory "build"
cd build
cmake "$1" -CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$KDEDIR -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=debugfull
make
su -c "make install"

Hi, when i compile kaudiocreator i get rpmlint errors like:
kaudiocreator-debuginfo.x86_64: E: world-writable /usr/src/debug/kaudiocreator-1.2.81/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/ui_encodefile.h 0666

You know by chance how to solve that? Or explain the reason why those files are world writable?

Thanks by the way for the KDE4 port!

Thanks to Apachelogger, package is now available at https://edge.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/beta

To add the PPA: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta

This will import the key. Update and then sudo apt-get install kaudiocreator

Audex is also available; somewhat of a fork of this wonderful program. Thanks so much to the programmer to porting to KDE4. I appreciate it very much!

It would be nice to have it auto scan for other encoders that are installed such as nero and faac. I would rather have nero but would like any others. I am glad to see the program back. I missed it and still used it even though it was not for KDE 4.

This has been desperately needed since KDE 4.x was released. Thank you very much!

I'm having a hard time getting lame to encode VBR. I added "-V 2" to the command line but it still shows as 128 bits in VLC Media Player.

What am I missing?

Report

I believe lame is working properly. The problem seems to be VLC Media Player incorrectly reporting 128kbps bit rate on it's codec page.

I've now migrated to the following parameter, "--alt-preset standard"

Hi all,

I would like to know if there is a way to add Kaudiocreator to the list of actions allowed when I insert the cd? (I hope you understand what I mean) :-\

Go to System Settings > 'Advanced' tab > Device Actions

Create a new profile for a device action and point it to the program. You can use the existing profile for "Play Audio CD with KsCD" as a guide.

Now when you insert a audio disc a option to use KAudioCreator.

The package maintainers should be able to add a option to update a system configuration file on install for this action.

Ahoy!

Are you planning on getting KAudioCreator back into kdemultimedia, or is it going to stay in extragear?

Just asking because I am working on a Kubuntu package, and our version number depends a lot on where you are heading with KAC :)

Currently I have no plans for moving it back to kdemultimedia.

This is a pity :( think about it... I was missing it in kde4 :)

Report

Hmm, I think the main thing is that it is ported to kde4 at all. And if it is packaged for distributions (like apachelogger is doing for kubuntu) there should be no difference for it to live in kdemultimedia or extragear. Also, imho more flexible releases are possible as I can only work on it if my job and girlfriend permit. :)
