Description:

LMMS aims to be a free alternative to popular (but commercial and closed- source) programs like FruityLoops/FL Studio, Cubase and Logic allowing you to produce music with your computer. This includes creation of loops, synthesizing and mixing sounds, arranging samples, having fun with your MIDI-keyboard and much more...

LMMS combines the features of a tracker-/sequencer-program and those of powerful synthesizers, samplers, effects etc. in a modern, user-friendly and easy to use graphical user-interface.

Features

* Song-Editor for arranging the song
* creating beats and basslines using the Beat-/Bassline-Editor
* easy-to-use piano-roll for editing patterns and melodies

Hey guys, I took the time to write a thorough tutorial on how to load VSTs in LMMS since I couldn't find any on the web. Check it out if you need help figuring it out.

lmms simply rocks!
Thanks, really, to write this masterpiece, this is the only way to use vst plugins on amd64 systems, do you plan to write a little host with jack support?
It would be wonderful.

I never did music, because i am no musician, but seeing this program just makes me think i should try it :)
I know the look of a program should not matter as much as the functionality but i dont know about the functionality because i am not familiar with this.
I only want to give a compliment for the design, to encourage you to keep up developing good software.

I compiled with it active. Question is how you are distributing this since VST is "non-free" (freely available including sources but non-GPL license and the "sdk" must be gotten from Steinberg/Yamaha). Your compile asks for none of this.

Compiling Ardour with VST cites this problem and says you cannot distribute the binary. Even a differing exec name! One must place a zipped sdk or link it to a source subdirectory to compile.

Muse--one must set environment variables for jack-fst as well as choose in configure. To compile, one needs to manually copy/symlink stuff from the jack-fst sources to which also contain two headers from Steinberg. (This is an error in the muse configure, not a licensing qwerk.)

So .. beware of license problems. You might need to make this less convenient for us :-( !

LMMS now has free VST-support via an reverse-engineered VST-header (made by one of the LMMS-developers who also didn't sign Steinbergs license and all that) therefore things hopefully should be ok.

Program is looking nice. It imports complex MIDI files seemingly correctly.

However, it cannot connect to any MIDI devices! This is an old problem already.

MIDI dialog presents one interface. Obviously needs two, input and output. No matter, it cannot connect to one chosen. Once MIDI is working, need friendly support of GS and XG (mostly for "program" names. Can live without this for import of preexisting files as long as the bank and program numbers are intact.

Using Debian Sid, current jack. BTW: Jack MIDI transport is now available as well.

Hi,
unfortunaly configure doesn't recognize libstk-0.2 and festival-1.96. Libstk resides under /usr/include/libstk, which is a link to /usr/include/libstk-0.2. Also the header is called stk.h, not Stk.h. /usr/include/speechtools doesn't exist anymore.
Distro is openSUSE 10.2

I've installed the latest Suse 10.1 64bit RPM and was getting a libsland error when trying to run, so I created a link so my libsland and now LMMS starts up.

When LMMS starts I get errors saying plugin not found and when I try to load a demo project, again it cannot find any of the plugins.

I have /usr/share/lmms/presets which appears to have all the files but LMMS doesn't seem to find them.

Any idea's???
