On-Desktop-Logs opens a terminal (Eterm) on the desktop at the specified position. On the terminal we've "tail -f /var/log/messages" running. This script is based on On-Desktop-Terminal

sorry, it doesn't kill Eterm at the end of the session, but you can exclude it on Kcontrol in the session management section

Essentially does the same thing except it doesn't use a terminal. Instead it paints the output to the root window.

I get what you're saying about your own implementation. I often do the same thing myself.
