Description:

This is a little daemon to use mainly with notebooks. It adjusts volume and displays on OSD as KOSD

But it does through DBus so it's suited for KDE-4. Uses Kmix and needs Kmix loaded (if started first, it sits until kmix is loaded).

intructions:

qmake PREFIX=/usr
make
sudo make install

Note: screenshot 1 is from Big Buck Bunny, a CC film released from Blender Community

this app is getting abandoned in favour of either kmix bar
or http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/OSD+for+KDE+4.x?content=85360 ,
will be removed in some days

looks nice but it gives Service 'org.osd.volume' does not exist. when I execute qdbus org.osd.volume /Volcontrol org.OSD.Volume.showdec

Are you using kde4 and a recent dbus version (you also need to have started dbus...)?

Check what's the output of the command
"qdbus" with no arguments...
