Description:

Firewall Builder is a multi-platform firewall configuration and management system. It consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI and policy compilers are completely independent, this provides for a consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf and Cisco PIX. Existing configuration can be imported for iptables and Cisco IOS access lists. Built-in policy installer uses ssh to copy generated policy to the firewall or router and activate it.

v2.1.19 is a bugfix release. Few bugs that affected support for "limit" and "timeout" options in compiler for PF were fixed; option "Clamp MSS to MTU" in compiler for iptables now generates rule that will match packets in states ESTABLISHED and RELATED; bug that affected printing long rulesets on Windows was also fixed.

Major update: starting with v2.1.18, policy compilers for Cisco PIX (supports FWSM and ASA appliances) and IOS extended access lists have been released under GPL and included in the main package. Changes in the packaging: now we ship only two RPMs, one for the fwbuilder library (libfwbuilder-2.1.18.rpm) and the other for the GUI and all 6 policy compilers (fwbuilder-2.1.18.rpm)

The company where I work use fwb extensivily, and is highly rated!

We've just modified the firewalls schema, and fwb made it quick and easy to handle make the modificatons.

Your work is very much appreciated!

I love this! Works great on Slackware 11, and compilation was more or less flawless.

Great job.

Just Curious, but why is the windows and mac version not free? I'm not a windows user nor do I advocate the use of such a poor "OS", it still strikes me as somehow unfair to charge them. Are they screwed enough just using Windows?

The app looks just fabulous!

I am unable to set it up and running on SusE 9.2 x86-64. Has anyone compiled one for this platform?

Did some one get this working on Debian?

I convert it to a .DEB with alien, but after dpkg -i fwbuilder-xx I run fwbuilder and it aborts with an error. Something about a missing library, wich I dont know were to get it and install.

Thanks in advance.

Great app. If you're familiar with Checkpoint software this tool will satisfy your needs. Less sofisticated but still great functionality.
Maybe it's only my box but developers will need to do some more work on the control displaying policy rules, especially in Linux version.
Rewriting it in QT was great idea too!

This esoteric program is far more difficult to master than IPTables.

Need a firewall GUI? Get Webmin.

Hahahaha!!

Webmin - man you are funny. Webmin is just not in the same league and to make this comment shows that you can't have used this application or other applications like it. This kind of interface is the STANDARD for configuring high-roller firewalls like checkpoint, etc.

Webmin, indeed.

Wow! That sounds a bit harsh. There is a whole world out there - users that are just using a PC to do their job. Some of us are not, and don't want to be, Linux experts. Aren't we entitled to look for solutions designed to be easy to use?

If you're looking for a KDE firewall tool that is a bit simpler to master than Firewall Builder (but by this fact not as powerful) try out Guard Dog (it's at www.simonzone.com).
