[2010-09-30[ BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 Released

BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 has been released by Matt Rogers. Go get it!

[2010-03-23] BasKet 2.0 Beta 1 Released

The BasKet project is proud to announce the release of version 2.0 beta 1. This version serves as a pre-release version for developers and distributors and should not be considered suitable for a production system. BasKet 2.0 will be a new major release which brings Qt4 and KDE 4 compatibility to BasKet and paves the way for future releases which take advantage of KDE 4 technologies such as Akonadi and Nepomuk. Due to the pervasive nature of these changes, there may be inevitable bugs in some features of the new release. However, the new version is in many ways more stable and robust than previous releases (especially when running on the KDE 4 platform) and users are recommended to switch to the new version when it comes out.

We hope to release version 2.0 within a few months.

Previous versions of BasKet, which depended on KDE 3 libraries, are now considered deprecated and will no longer be maintained.

I just tried basket, I think it's very good idea. But I used two computers and I would like to export some notes from one to the other.
How can I do this?

I'm expecting to offer two ways to do that:

* Using the menus: "Basket -> Export -> Baskets Archive" will create an archive file (like a .zip or a .tar.gz) containing the basket (and possibly sub-baskets). The entry "Basket -> Import -> Baskets Archive" will do the opposite (and also, if you are receiving such archive by email, clicking it will open it directly in BasKet). I think it will be in BasKet Note Pads 0.6.0 Beta 1.

* Integrating WeBasKet with BasKet: you will be able to use BasKet as normally. Every change will be uploaded to a server on internet. A lot of BasKet applications will be able to synchronize data with a same WeBasKet account. And your baskets will also be accessable on the web with WeBasKet. That's for BasKet Note Pads 0.7.0. I already have someone else working on that with me. We're writting down specifications of such system and coding will begin just after.

Recently I discovered the power of Basket. I was reading a big pdf (IBM Redbooks 600 pages) and there were several diagrams/pictures which I copy/paste into my Basket.
Basket was very kind to export the content in html so I could present it to my colleague.

Next step, styling with CSS ? :-0)

If you experience build errors when you are using KDE3.4, you need to compile arts against the glib library on your system.

Retreive arts source corresponding to your KDE version, recompile and install.

Then compile basket.

I am running KDE 3.4 on Mandrake 10.1

Ok after recompiling Arts source RPM , I can now create a rpm for Basket on Suse 9.2 with kde 3.4...Many Thanks for your assistance

Hi,

I'd love to try basket out, but the problem is that I have no arts installed on my kde 3.4 :-(

I tried the --without-arts switch for ./configure, but it seems like it has no effects (some arts headers are still included in basket.cpp). Is this solvable in some way?

Thanks!

If you have a SuSE system and/or updated Gnome on it, retrieve the arts source that came with your KDE update and rebuild that first.

Then build basket.

Ok I have the last version of arts given with KDE3.4 ( arts-1.4.8-8 )

I don't understand why i must obliged to recompile this package from the source....

Hi there, i just wanted to say that this program is grate, i use it from more than 6 months ago :)

BTW today i realized that would be cool to have an option to hide / fold each one of the components of a basket, wich is nice for large components.

Bye and keep up the good work :)

I'm currently working to finalize 0.5.0 (fixing bugs/crashs/compile errors...) and I will start the next version, that will feature items grouping.

I *think* I will make grouped items foldable.
But I don't think I will allow single items to be rolled up/down.

For what use you would like that?
Perhapse you have very big items?

I also *think* I will allow items to not be bigegr that x pixels (configurable), so big images would be scaled down and texts would only show first lines.
But I don't know yet if it's doable (without have to refactore all my code)!

The text part is exactly what i was thinking :)

Hi,

I tried basked a few times, its cool, but - well, its like I just don't use it. I've been thinking about this, and I think its mostly because its just another window (you can't drop on the systray, and not drag either).

there is some stack tool, you can trow in things, and get them out of it in the order you threw them in. a bit easier, imho, already. but still...

So I wondered, its nice to have some place to throw things for just a few minutes. but where.

well, why not on the kicker? why not create a kicker applet? So I'm goin' to write a proposal (with screenshot) for this, for KDE-look. I hope I can finish it today (or tomorow) so watch kde-apps/kde-look, if you want to see what I think is THE solution for this.

:D

I heard a lot of good about basket. Really wanna compile it and experience.

By the way, I saw your rant about not having any hard drive space for testing 3.4 and 4.x. I have a 20Gig lying around. Will it help? Im in California. If it's not international, I'll send it to ya.
