[2010-09-30[ BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 Released

BasKet 2.0 Beta 2 has been released by Matt Rogers. Go get it!

[2010-03-23] BasKet 2.0 Beta 1 Released

The BasKet project is proud to announce the release of version 2.0 beta 1. This version serves as a pre-release version for developers and distributors and should not be considered suitable for a production system. BasKet 2.0 will be a new major release which brings Qt4 and KDE 4 compatibility to BasKet and paves the way for future releases which take advantage of KDE 4 technologies such as Akonadi and Nepomuk. Due to the pervasive nature of these changes, there may be inevitable bugs in some features of the new release. However, the new version is in many ways more stable and robust than previous releases (especially when running on the KDE 4 platform) and users are recommended to switch to the new version when it comes out.

We hope to release version 2.0 within a few months.

Previous versions of BasKet, which depended on KDE 3 libraries, are now considered deprecated and will no longer be maintained.

hi, i'm using 2.0 beta 2 on mint (gnome) and it's all working great (thanks) except for encryption.
i'm getting the "encryption not supported" etc. message and no option to add a password when you right click.
i've installed libgpgme11-dev but to no avail.
any help much appreciated as i really need password protection to work!

question:
i'm new to linux/ubuntu and i got into basket because i heard that it was a good replacement for onenote, which i absolutely loved.

i want to use this as a journal type kind of document but for some reason, there doesn't seem to be a text wrap/word wrap feature. i know that i am just being lazy and picky about it, but i was wondering if there was a word wrap feature.

i would use the help page but that doesn't exactly work in basket.

idea:
1. time/date stamps
2. text wrapping
3. help menu/page

The product is a pretty good one, but it has some flaws. There is not a time/date stamp function one can apply to notes created, and there is a nasty problem with ampersands in titles; they always duplicate. It is a little non-intuitive as well, and is very heavy on resource usage. It will likely mature with age.

I have been using Linux with Basket notes. I have used Basket notes for months and have a huge amount of notes that I just can't lose. I had lots of problems, but I haven't gotten answers. My kids just gave me an Apple computer (Mac Mini)--Now, the problem is transferring from the old to the new.

When my son copied everything to put on the Mac, Basket notes on the old computer disappeared, and I can't find it on the new computer. I downloaded a new Basket notes on the Mac, but it won't open.

I'm told that there is a backup system, but that won't work, either. How does one retrieve the Notes from the Backup? And help me retrieve my notes from wherever they are!

My kids blame the problems on Linux, hence, the Mac. Someone please HELP !!

This application is great, I wish it was a Qt4-based only (no KDE lib dependencies)...

I can't install it - and I did check to see that all the required files are installed - can't understand why it won't install...???

error message: check if librairies are missing...

verified everything...
maybe there is something I overlooked...

the install file says I should have version 4 files installed - is it ok with version 5...? could that be the problem...?

OK - found "my" solution. I'm posting it here to help others - if the need arises...

simply enter this in the terminal and proceed:

sudo apt-get install cmake kdepimlibs5-dev libqimageblitz-dev kdelibs5-dev libqt4-dev

after this installation, I was able to install the new BETA

Ok, now, when the download link works again (maybe it was working all the time, the version numbers have confused me), I tested BasKet. At the moment the app is unusable. And that's why:

1. The translation (russian) made me facepalm. It contains such lines, as
"Головная корзина", "Не пользуетесь KDE как средой обитания" and "Автоматически замыкать корзину", not to mention the translation incompleteness and typos. It's sad.

2. Images obviously are treated wrong. Here is the screenshot:http://rghost.ru/2868442/image.png
They displayed normal only when I close BasKet and launch it again.

3. A lot of icons are missing (maybe because KDE4 porting is still incomplete).

4. (just whining) Who ever came up with the idea that a SINGLE CLICK should create a new note? It's driving me crazy >_<.

I hope the download link will be fixed soon, because this app is exactly what I'm missing in KDE4.

When I click on the indicated links I get the Beta 1 tarball. Also on the main website of Basket, I see the announcements of Beta 2, but the tarball can not be downloaded.

Great app! Till recently I had both linux and windows on my laptop, mostly because I was using OneNote. BasKet Note Pads gave me the last reason to erase the Win partition and go 100% Linux. Yet, I have two suggestions to make:

- give the option to change the location of the baskets
- I would like to be able to link an item in a note to another basket (so that when I click on that element, I go automaticaly to that basket)

Does anyone know something about the current developement status?

The last news update on the basket website was from 2010-03-23.

Check it out:
http://basket.kde.org

I wonder, cause there is only one news entry about a 2.0 release.

"We hope to release version 2.0 within a few months."

Is there still any developement in progress?

Is there any way to relocate the basket notes datafile to another location, for example on my NAS. I would like to be able to approach the datafile from two different computers.
I love the application.

Hi, now I'm a fully KDE SC user I found Basket very useful. Sure same things can be accomplished using Kate sessions manager but Basket make it all easy and eyecandy.

So, my question is: are you aware of any plasmoid to use with it? It would be great to have one in my desktop - grat and hand, of course :D

for continuing the development!

please add a paypal donation button somewhere!

Ive used it for several years now and although the 2.0 beta has some bugs I definitly will stick to it.

My latest discovery: I just moved the baskets folder to my dropbox account and now my Basket notepads are synced on all my computers!

Seems encryption isn't working too well on the beta. that's a showstopper for me.

It's almost perfect, though. The most important app on my system is getting a Qt4 upgrade. You guys rule.
