Description:

Tellico is a collection manager for keeping track of your books, bibliographies, videos, music, comic books, video games, coins, stamps, trading cards, wines, board games, or any custom items. It supports any number of user-defined fields, of several different types: text, paragraph, list, checkbox, year, URL, tables, images, dates, and combinations.

Tellico imports Bibtex, MODS, RIS, PDF, and CSV and exports to Bibtex, Bibtexml, CSV, and HTML. It offers grouping, view filtering, and searching. Tellico can also import data from Amazon.com and IMDb.com, along with z39.50 servers, CDDB data, audio files, SRU servers, several different websites, and from the Alexandria and GCstars applications.

Note that kde-apps.org is not a support forum. Please sent comments, questions, or bug reports to the Tellico mailing list or the Tellico forum.

Nice work! My suggestion to you is to consider making the import features as a plugin structure, so that others can more easily create plugins.

For instance I would LOVE to have a boardgamegeek.com plugin as I have a large game collection.

If this was abstracted out such that tellico only required a particular xml structure to be returned by the plugin, then plugins could be written in ANY language. The plugin then could simply be a commandline that is executed with a set of parameters set by the user in tellico. This would allow me to write a perl script that would take the bgg id as a parameter and then it would go, screen scrape the appropriate page, build an xml structure and return it to tellico.

So the workflow would be as follows... set up my "plugin" entering the commandline "perl gogetbgginfo.pl %BGGID" the %BGGID would be swapped out with the value of field that matches, in this case the BGGID field. Then I would start to enter a game. Once I had it's BGGID entered, I could click a button, or menu item to execute my "plugin" It would then be passed the BGGID of the current game and it would go and screenscrape, form the xml specifying field values and return it to Tellico. Tellico then takes the xml and populates the current game with the appropriate values.

Any language could then be used to create these "plugins" without increasing the weight of the core program.

This looks like a very useful app.

All I'd like to know is how to import cddb files.

I'm not sure what you mean. The CDDB import reads the CD directly and queries the FreeDB server, there's no CDDB file really.

What I meant was pointing tellico at the local folder where cddb information is stored and batch-importing all the files in there. That would be quite a bit easier (at least for the user) than having to insert several hundred CDs yet again.

Sorry for the late answer.

I'm wondering if tellico could become part of Kontact?

It would be great to have it integrated with Kontact and eventually also the KDE Addressbook so one can keep track of loaned books, movies, cd's..etc..
Great app anyhow!

with full cast page and html codes.

A possible solution is in file imdbfetcher.cpp change the line:

QString castPage = FileHandler::readTextFile(castURL, true);

to

QString castPage = Tellico::decodeHTML(FileHandler::readTextFile(castURL, true));

Thanks parys for this great app, the imdb feature is cool.

Sorry my bad english.

Greetings.

Are there any plans for barcode scanning or is the input done entirely by hand?

Thank you,

If your barcode scanner outputs straight text, I don't see why that wouldn't work. Just open the ISBN list in the search window.

Finally! "Any USMARC-compliant z39.50 server may be searched." Yaaaay! Thank you so much, that was one of the missing pieces on the Linux desktop. Together with bibtex export, this can hopefully replace proprietary solutions like http://www.endnote.com/

Just - in my Tellico 0.13 downloaded from the Slacky.it Repository, In don't see z39.50 in Data Sources... I have the following in my system:

/usr/lib/libyaz.so.2
/usr/lib/libyazthread.so.2
/usr/lib/libyazthread.so.2.0.0
/usr/lib/libyaz.so.2.0.0

How can I use z39.50?

Thanks again,
probono

Are these pre-compiled packages? If they are, then they have to be compiled with the yaz library development headers, which they may not have been. You can check by running ldd `which tellico` and see if yaz is included in the list.

If you're compiling from source, you need the development headers, too, not just the library files.

Hi,

first let me thank you for your app. I use it everyday to manage my articles, and find it very good.

However, I updated Tellico from 0.12 to 0.13 on my ArchLinux box (from sources), and since then, I found the bibliography bibtex export broken: instead of automatic bibtex keys, all I can get is an increasing list of characters : a, b, c...weird chars of course...

For instance:
@article{

As arnehe, I use tellico for my bitex ref management, and my most wanted feature is the ability to import a ref (in bibtex or ris format for example) when tellico is running.

Since a recent release, it is possible to do this job by starting tellico with an option to import a file. But if tellico is still running !?

A good solution is to use the DCOP bus :-) I have a dream that some day I could type and script :
dcop tellico tellico import /tmp/Grimm1999.bib
or
dcop tellico tellico exportBibtex /home/me/Documents/thesis/biblio.bib

One more time, thank you very much for your work !

Hi!
Tellico/Bookcase is a wonderful app! I use it to manage my bibtex databases. However, I miss two features:
1) show all entries with duplicate bibtex keys
2) copy/move an entry from one database (file) to another
Thanks,
Arne

Hello Arne,

you can enable "auto-expansion" for the bibtex field, so you realise when an entry exists. As well, make your bib-tex entries group-able. Then you'll see the problem as well. For my 800 entries, it works nicely.

Hi Andreas,

thank you for your very useful hints regarding duplicate bibtex entries.

Does anybody know a convenient solution to import one distinct entry from a bibtex file into the Tellico database?

Thanks,
Arne

(no wishes for bad apps....)
1- copy an entire entry is good; would be nice to paste this entry as new entry (and then modify only one or two fields)
2- how to configure the look of entry view subwindow? (Im not a specialist!)
3- how to avoid the icon in column view?
Thanks!
