I just got my tablet today and had this problem. I also compiled 1.3.2 from source. Opening the configuration panel will crash the X server.

Installing the latest wacom driver fixed the problem for me. If you don't feel like compiling it from source, someone else has nicely packaged it into a ppa. Add https://launchpad.net/~irie/+archive/wacom (ppa:irie/wacom) to your software repositories through synaptic or apt-add-repository and update to the 0.11.99 version from git.

Hope this helps!

(Etric, you may want to put a note about this on the top of the description. Xorg crashing is rather serious for a settings module.)

Thanks for the bugreport!

nicoduv has the same problem and I had no idea how to reproduce this. Still wonder why xorg chrashes but now I can debug this.

Do you remember which version of the odler xorg driver you used beforehand? the default from ubuntu 0.10.11?

(The message system won't let me reply to your comment. I guess it stops nesting, so I hope you can still see this one.)

Yes, it was the default one in the repositories. (1:0.10.11-0ubuntu4)

On a completely unrelated note, tapping my pen is not making it reliably register a click. At startup, it'll click a few times but as time passes, it starts only highlighting or only records movement. (Also using Bamboo P&T, but seems to be a new K revision)
This probably is not a problem with your tool but rather with the driver itself. I'll play around with older and stable releases and see if I get the same behavior with those. That ppa was the first thing I found, and I just might have broken everyone's tablet by accident.

Thanks for all your work in making such a great tool! It's magnitudes better than the old wacomcpl.

Sadly nesting doesn't work to good here. But I still see all the comments ;)

I will have a look at the crashing issue in the next days. This one might come back with later updates again.

About the left-click pen issue, this is a driver bug which only occurs with the new Pen and Touch Wacom Models. Seems there is something wrong with the way the TCPButton feature is handled.

There is a "workaround" for now. As soon as you finished with all your settings open the file
$HOME/.kde/share/config/tabletprofilesrc

and remove the lines with Button1=1

this prevents the kded to call the line
xsetwacom set ... Button 1 1 and thus the default is used which is still working

You have to do this step everytime you open the system settings module

Just my luck, it actually IS model-specific. Thanks, you just saved me an afternoon of hair-pulling. :)

If you did not come up with it yourself, could you link to where you found that workaround? I can't find any mention of this.

Totally forgot switching to relative mode also solves this problem, but is no solution I can work with

Hi,

I compiled xf86-input-wacom from source and everything works fine now. Thanks for the advice.

I'll have a look at it tomorrow or tuesday.

in the meantime the best thing to do is to checkout 1.3 from the gi repro.

What I "thought" was a quick fix after a long day, turned out to be a horrible crash. Funny though that this works on my computer after all.

Hi. since a while i use this application. today i noticed, there are a systemtray tool :D
now i want to build an icon for this too. because your original is hard to notice on my background. du you support http://api.kde.org/4.x-api/kdelibs-apidocs/kdeui/html/classKStatusNotifierItem.html#a9a48df4020cf548a0250a2ed4f388965 this? or can you support this in future. would be really nice :)

Actually it is not a "normal Systray" icon.
What you can put in the taskbar is a simple plasma applet like the trashbin.

So I don't think this works. But the icon is selected from the overall icon theme you use

Try the new 1.2.6 version I did fix a small problem with the tablet detection in general. Usually it should work now out of the box

In general something I was missing for long - great project !
I tried with TwinView. It seems to me that the resolution settings are being ignored and the program just uses half of the entire viewport size for each screen what causes strange overlaps with two different screens.
My guess is that the program uses the "Screen_No" parameter of xsetwacom. This never worked well for me. I always worked with TopX/TopY/BottomX/BottomY parameters. It would be good to have a way to define these parameters in the profile as well. I am not sure if the "Working Area" under "Pad Mapping" is meant to do this - entering parameters here did nothing in my case (Ubuntu 10.04 with Wacom Bamboo Touch).

It depends on the setting you use (this part of the settings interface is not explained in detail yet)

If you want to use both screen fully as one screen with the full table area, select Twinview = none

If yo want to use the "full" table tare for each screen select Twinview, add the monitor resolution and maybe switch the two monitors if you ran into troubles.

Now if you check the "Multi Monitor" setup, a small portion of the tablet is used to switch the courser between the two tablets (can be mapped to a shortcut as well)

if it is disabled, only 1 screen is used and switching to the 2nd monitor is only possible via the shortcut.

The Map to screen can be set to none (have not found a use to it, but i support it, as xsetwacom does so too ;)

This way it works for my Kubuntu machine 10.04 the 1.2.5 tablet program and the wacom bamboo)

Please send me another message if you still run into troubles

Cygn

you have to add these to toplevel CMakeList.txt to be able to build without complete cmaked kde-src:

find_package(KDE4 REQUIRED)
include(KDE4Defaults)
include_directories( ${KDE4_INCLUDES} )
add_definitions (${QT_DEFINITIONS} ${KDE4_DEFINITIONS})

between project.. and addsubdirectory... would do.

Anyway, it doesn't detect my Voluto 2x3 (which works OK with xsetwacom). The device is already in wacom_devicelist, with correct idnumber.
Any pointers ?

Really nice, that's something that was missing.

Is it possible to start the daemon on other DE, like openbox?

Report

Etric

In theory yes, but you have to install the kded4 deamon tools too and this will install half of the KDE libs I could imagine.

A standalone version is not supported and I don't think it every will be.
