How did you install ksquirrel-libs ? Read ksquirrel-libs/INSTALL for more.

I've got the same problem... the appropriate libraries are installed (libtiff, libjpeg and libpng) - KDE for example can display images fine, as can Showimg.

Any ideas?

Phil.

KSquirrel uses ksquirrel-libs to load images. Libraries should be installed in /usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs/ (read INSTALL). Show me please output of following commands:

$ ls /usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs

and

$ ksquirrel -l

Report

Hmmm, interesting results...

[phil@undertaker Downloads]$ ls /usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs
ls: /usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs: No such file or directory
[phil@undertaker Downloads]$ ksquirrel -l
kio (KDirLister): +KDirLister
kio (KDirListerCache): +KDirListerCache
kio (KDirWatch): Available methods: Stat
kio (KDirListerCache): -KDirListerCache
[phil@undertaker Downloads]$

I did follow your readme! Guess I should try rebuilding it...

Phil.

That's right: you didn't install ksquirrel-libs as it said in INSTALL. You needn't recompile or reinstall KSquirrel. Just reinstall ksquirrel-libs as it said in ksquirrel-libs/INSTALL or http://ksquirrel.sourceforge.net/download.php.

Once more:

$ cd ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0
$ ./configure --libdir=/usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs (or ./configure.gnu)
$ make
$ su -c 'make install'

Hope it will work now.

[root@undertaker ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0]# more INSTALL
How to install 'ksquirrel-libs' package:

a) from sources
# tar zxfv ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0.tar.gz
# cd ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0/
# ./configure.gnu (or ./configure --libdir=/usr/lib/ksquirrel-libs)
# make
# su -c 'make install'

b) from binary packages
RPM # rpm -ihv ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0.rpm
TGZ # installpkg ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0.tgz
DEB # dpkg -i ksquirrel-libs-0.6.0.deb

--------------------------------------------------------------

Note: You can pass all regular 'configure' parameters to configure.gnu.
Note: You needn't specify --libdir, it's already done in configure.gnu.
Note: Your automake version should be 1.8 or higher.
Note: If "make install" fails in doc/ directory, ignore it.

Working now - but you do need to specify --libdir (at least I did).

Phil.

You need specify libdir only for "configure", "configure.gnu" doesn't require libdir (as it said in INSTALL).

...but nevertheless it works for (the great!) application.

Thank you.

Ah, I forgot to put doc/sources/* in distribution. Today I'll update ksquirrel-libs.

I recently switched to linux and was disappointed it did not have a good image viewer (the one thing I will give Microsuck credit for). This is exactly what I was looking for! Good job and keep up the good work. One suggestion would be (and I know you have heard this before) is image scaling. Large images scaled down to fit the page are distorted.

0.6.0-pre9 will have experimental linear filter. 0.6.0-final is coming soon :)

Seems not to build on AMD64 :(. This might ne the reason the klik won't work... says it can't find libkio.so.4 (I've seen this kind of errors thrown from 32 bit appz trying to "load" 64 bit libs).Is this ture or am I missing something? (gentoo, kde3.5)

Hi, can you describe the resize methods "tiles" and "hyper"? Do you plan to support bicubic and lanczos interpolations?

Report

Hi. I used pixops library from gdk-pixbuf.

I didn't find any good library that could resize images using different methods, so I used pixops. You can read README from ksquirrel-0.6.0/ksquirrel/libpixops for more.

I'll be VERY glad to get good library for resizing. Do you know one ?
