Changes in 3.0.2:
* Added back a description file implementing the freedesktop.org AppData specification.

Changes in 3.0.1:
* Fixed installation and integratin of hicolor application icon.

Changes in 3.0:
* Yakuake was ported to KDE Frameworks 5 and Qt 5.
* A new default skin follows the Plasma 5 Breeze design.
* Terminal focus is now preserved more reliably when closing and reopening Yakuake.
* Config changes made via the title bar menu are now synced to disk immediately, and thus preserved if Yakuake is killed instead of quit gracefully.
* The option to auto-update tab titles with the title bar contents no longer interferes with manually setting a tab title. To return to auto-updating just clear the title.
* Performance improvements in the compositor-unassisted animation code path.
* Fixed bug causing incorrect window height calculation in multi-monitor systems.

It's a bug in Konsole. Yakuake embeds the Konsole KPart component for the terminal area. The conflict is between the shortcuts you set in Yakuake and Konsole's shortcuts. The bug is that Konsole shouldn't even expose the actions that are specific to the Konsole main application in its KPart, since it doesn't make any sense, and causes problems like this.

To expand on that: Konsole already special-cases some of its actions and disables them for the KPart case -- otherwise this problem would be even more frequent. However, it doesn't do so consistently for all the actions for which it would need to do so; some are left active when they shouldn't be, and thus compete with Yakuake's, invisible to the user until he hits this problem.

It's taking forever to open first time after X starts, since a while back. After that it works normally.

Hi I'm using yakuake every day. Could not imagine my desktop without it.

But since I use two monitors it is much slower than before.
When I press the Shortcut, there is a delay of 1 or 2 seconds until yakuake appears and the animation itself is slower than it used to be.

A friend who uses also more than one monitor affirmed this behaviour.

I think there is no correlation with graphic drivers because I am using radeon drivers and my firend is using nvidia drivers.

My System:
- Kubuntu 10.04
- KDE 4.5b2
- Xorg edgers

Would be great if this performance glitch could be fixed.

Hmm ... I use two monitors as well and haven't noticed any speed difference. It's true that multi-monitor positioning is computationally a bit more expensive, though - necessarily so I'm afraid, since it needs to retrieve the monitor info and compute the intersection of the screen geometry and the work area.

Hi. Thanks for the quick answer.
I investigated a little further and it seems to have something to to with the size of yakuake.

I normally use 70% width and 70% height. If I set lower values the speed increases.

My resolution on Screen 1 is 1680x1050, Screen 2 uses 1280x1024.
Desktop effects are activated.

If I deactivate the second Monitor there is no delay when opening yakuake.

It would be nice to have a some kind of SSH connection manager. A menu where you can add profiles (name and address) of the servers and than by simple choose and click open new tab with SSH session in it.

Technically, that would be possible.

Oh, and one idea for it, too. It would be cool to beeing able to synchronize the working directory of the current tab with the current directory of dolphin. :)

Just want to say, that this is a extremly cool awesome application! For quite a while, I never asked myself, if there would be something like "awesome" just with the comfort of KDE. Keep up the good work. :)

hi there.

I was looking to get the weechat bell command (to alert incoming messages/etc) when i found that the bell does not work inside yakuake while with konsole or gnome-terminal it works

its easy to check it, use the command:

echo -ne "\a"

My software versions is as follows:

yakuake version 2.9.6
kde (and konsole) version is 4.3.4

good job over there!
yakuake keeps being a great tool.

This is a bug in the Konsole KPart component Yakuake embeds.

Thanks for this fabulous app. The drop-down terminal idea isn't new. But you bring it to the KDE4 desktop in a beautiful way!

It's stable, fast en looks great!
Keep up the good work for your "I-couldn't-do-without-anymore" killerapp!

F12-away...*

*or the key you assigned, I left it as F12, good choice, for me anyway.

Hi,
first of all thanks a lot for this great app, I'm using it since at least 4 years! :-)
I have recently switched to KDE4 and I'm facing an annoying problem.
Even if the speed is set to ~0ms and all transparencies are disabled (even from the tab bar) it really takes a lot of time to react to the pressing of F12 and open the window.
Usually the delay is in the order of 3-4 seconds.
Do you have any suggestion for identifying what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

It's most likely the graphics driver, e.g. most versions of the proprietary nVidia graphics driver have massive performance problems with drawing bitmap fonts.

Thanks, it got a bit better with an older version of the nVidia drivers and with all desktop effects disabled

First I have to say I love Yakuake. I use it permanently.

Now the feature request:
I'd like to have a shortcut that opens a new session in the same $PWD as the current one. I think this would be a great help sometimes.

Hi, Yakuake is really useful for me.

I'd like to report a bug:
I'm able to create a profile, and the profile is correctly persisted after quiting yakuake and then restarting.
But when I choose some profile as "Default" and quit yakuake (with the "x" button on the bottom-right part of the window), after restarting, the profile is always the yakuake's default.
It also happens that if I choose in the "Manage Profiles" window that certain profiles be showed in the "Profile Menu" (context-menu: Change Profile), when I restart yakuake, it doesn't remember my choices.
I guess is all the same bug.

Best Regards and thans a lot for this great piece of software!

Sorry, I've forgotten to give more info:
I'm using Kubuntu 9.10, with:
yakuake --version
Qt: 4.5.2
KDE: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
Yakuake: 2.9.6

Please note that the entire profile management, including all related dialogs, is actually done by Konsole's KPart component, which Yakuake only embeds. It would be best to file a bug report against Konsole (and just as with Yakuake, that's best done on http://bugs.kde.org/).

Thanks for clarifying that!
I'll be reporting the bug on http://bugs.kde.org/

Best Regards,
Diego.
