Hello Giuseppe, can you add an option for removing custom fonts from PDF documents? My university has ancient PDF documents (text, not images) that have a terrible font embedded in them and I have difficulty reading them (it is a pseudo-handwriting font)! This would be a terrific accessibility enhancement. Thanks.

Hi Dotan,
I not have idea how to this.
I now try to know more on this and, if it possible, I add in a servicemenu.

The only ways at the moment I know are:
-import and edit pdf file with openoffice 3.0 (draw + pdf extension)
-use little windows software with wine for now.

Sorry, Regards
Giuseppe Benigno

Mandriva 2009.0 kde 4.1.3
Thank you for your work but
I found a problem in your script and get the next error message.

/usr/bin/pdftoppm_kmenu.sh: line 117: syntax error near unexpected token `('
/usr/bin/pdftoppm_kmenu.sh: line 117: `select () {'

When I make it select_ ()
the script works for the rest of the functions but not for the select () function of course.

kind regards,

Marco

Yes, using gzip or other compress software.

In this servicemenu:
raw pdf file -> compress -> pdf file
or
pdf file -> decompress -> raw pdf file

I copying Compress and decompress name from man pages of pdftk.

I don't want to zip the pdf I'd like to reduce the picture dpi. So that it will be the same pdf in a lower picture quality. because, when you compress a pdf with a lot of pictures the compressed file (zip or whatever) will have nearly the same size.

Do you know a script to reduce the picture quality?

Oops sorry,
I did not understand you.
This servicemenus are only a GUI for pdftk, pdfjam and poppler-utils softwares.

I think you need a external software for this.

Good luck

For reduce a pdf file:
gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=out.pdf file_01.pdf file_02.pdf

out.pdf is your new pdf name (like you want) and out.pdf file_01.pdf file_02.pdf is the name of pdf you want to reduce. that work also for one pdf file

One tool that I really need is a tool to remove embedded fonts from PDF files. Can you add such a functionality? The trend at my university is to embed these terrible fonts that I can hardly read in distributed PDF files. A simple way to remove them would make my life much easier. Thanks!

Thanks egregorion

I work with PDFs a lot.I do howtos and the like and sometimes work with other people's PDFs. This makes a lot of things easier. Especially when dealing with PDFs made on MS systems. They always seem to be messed up outside the originating OS.

Hello egregorion,

Just few words for I feel it would be nice to adapt this perl script to change some meta data: http://www.linhelp.com/pdfmeta.pl

- make a pack (archive) of PDFtk Tools & Jam, preserving each desktop files

- add in the pack something like:
pdftohtml.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
ServiceTypes=application/pdf
Actions=_SEPARATOR_;pdftohtml;_SEPARATOR_
TryExec=pdftohtml

X-KDE-Submenu=PDFtk Tools
X-KDE-Submenu[fr]=Trousse à outils PDF

[Desktop Action pdftohtml]
Name=Convert PDF file to HTML
Name[fr]=Convertir le fichier PDF en HTML

Exec=pdftohtml -c -noframes %f;kdialog --title "HTML convertion" --passivepopup "Done" 3
Exec[fr]=pdftohtml -c -noframes %f;kdialog --title "Conversion HTML" --passivepopup "Opération terminée" 3
Icon=konqueror

- add a functionnality to create easily Watermarks. It could be based on convert from ImageMagick: eg:

convert -size 3333x416 xc:white -font '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/drakfont/ttf/Garamond Bold.ttf' -pointsize 300 -draw "text 114,302 'Sagittarius'" -channel RGBA -blur 0x20 -fill red3 -stroke none -draw "text 84,270 'Sagittarius'" -trim +repage -rotate -45 -compress JPEG Sagittarius.pdf

See http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/graphics/imagick6/

- find a way to handle internationalized characters set in file names ?

But these my friend are only suggestions ;-)
keep up the good work.
