Description:

KPlayer is a KDE multimedia player.

With KPlayer you can easily play a wide variety of video and audio files and
streams using a rich and friendly interface compliant with KDE standards.

Features include
- video, audio and subtitle playback from file, URL, DVD, VCD,
audio CD, TV, DVB, etc., as well as KDE I/O Slaves;
- volume, contrast, brightness, hue and saturation controls;
- zooming, full screen and fixed aspect options;
- status and progress display and seeking;
- multimedia library to organize your media files and streams;
- configuration dialog and file specific options;
- KPart for integration with Konqueror, KMLDonkey, etc.

The new 0.7 version brings KPlayer into the KDE 4 age. It has been ported to KDE 4 APIs, including Solid. There are currently no plans to use Phonon, since MPlayer is the only backend KPlayer uses. Some polishing has been done, primarily to make KPlayer window resizing smoother. And as usual there have been many bug fixes and translation updates.

Debian packages are available thanks to Christian Marillat.
Set up the repository unless you already have it in your sources.list:

echo 'deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org unstable main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list

Update the package list and install MPlayer, KPlayer, libdvdcss and codecs if applicable.

apt-get update
apt-get install mplayer kplayer kplayer-doc libdvdcss w32codecs

If you know who to talk to, could you please talk to them? Since I'm not a suse user...

By fiasco I meant the licensing deal, but let's not get started on it. GPLv3 will sort it out.

It's in admin/cvs/sh.

Please let me know if it works with 2.10, and I'll fix the check for 0.6.1.

To make things easy I simply deleted lines 64-90 in admin/cvs.sh. Bootstrap ran fine and so did ./configure but the build fails on ;

kplayerpart.cpp:28:27: kplayerpart.moc: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [kplayerpart.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kplayer-0.6.0/kplayer'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

I see in kplayer.cpp you have a #include "kplayer.moc" but there is no such file in kplayer-0.6.0/kplayer.

erf.
That last sentence should have referred to kplayerpart.moc

Looking through the config.log, I do not see anything unusual Qt/kde paths are found, etc, etc. A snip for config.log;

configure:30301: result: libraries /opt/lunar/qt/3/lib, headers /opt/lunar/qt/3/include using -mt
configure:30482: checking for moc

configure:30661: $? = 0
configure:30673: result: yes
configure:30685: checking whether uic supports -nounload
configure:30696: /opt/lunar/qt/3/bin/uic -nounload conftest.ui >/dev/null
configure:30699: $? = 0

The top level Makefile has found "MOC = /opt/lunar/qt/3/bin/moc"

Ok tried something a little different, this time a ball peen hammer instead of a sledge.

changed line 71 from ;

automake*1.6.* | automake*1.7* | automake*1.8* | automake*1.9*)

to

automake*1.6.* | automake*1.7* | automake*1.8* | automake*1.9* | automake*1.10*)

and it compiled/installed fine just like kde and all the other kapps compiled with the current stable releases of autoconf/automake and friends :)

Just a side note here. On some streams I have found such as;

http://64.157.15.135:8040;stream.nsv

kplayer does not like the ";stream.nsv". Just going with http://64.157.15.135:8040 and kplayer starts the stream just fine. However, mplayer does not have a problem with ";stream.nsv".

It's not really a big deal I guess, just noting the difference between the two.

Aside from that, good work.

From reading RFC 1738, this is not even a valid HTTP URL. Plus, kdelibs don't support it either. If you click it, Konqueror does nothing. So if kdelibs are changed to allow that, KPlayer will support it without any changes, otherwise there is not much that can be done.

make -f Makefile.dist fails with;

*** YOU'RE USING automake (GNU automake) 1.10.
*** KDE requires automake 1.6.1 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

Unless I can no longer count correctly,

1.10 is greater than 1.6.1

ah, /usr/bin/automake* all are perl scripts and the right /usr/bin/automake version is simply copied over to /usr/bin/automake . i allways thought it was a symlink though :)

Hi,
i have compiled the version 0.60 for Kplayer. That's one of my favourite applications but it seems I have problems for reading .flv files. Is it due to this new version?
So I reinstalled the ols one (0.53)
Many thanks

The new version should be at least as good as the old one as far as playing files.

Please create a debug log as described at http://kplayer.sourceforge.net/manual/howto-bug-reporting.html and post it on the user forum: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=244388

Or come to #kplayer on IRC and we'll figure it all out. :)

See above in the project description or go to http://kplayer.sourceforge.net/#downloads

Not sure if they will work on Kubuntu, so please post here if you try them.
