dolphin, gwenview and maybe other can add semantic info to any file: Tags, Rating and Comments.

They are stored as extendend attributs xattr. E.g.:

$ xattr -l file-with-xattr
user.xdg.tags: foo bar baz,blabla
user.baloo.rating: 4
$

When you 'Restore' a directory with such a file or copy it from Kup backup via 'Open' the xattr are lost. Maybe worth mentioning somewhere in the docs?

I'm sure it's bup's 'fault', not kup's, but that does not really help ;-)

Achim
P.S. vim, kate, copy with dolpin (kio in general?) do _not_ preverse xattr too :-(

To preserve xattr you have to use

rysnc -aX ...
cp -a ...
tar --xattrs ...

Same for debian:

Hi,
1st: thx a lot for this great tool!

In kubuntu, kdebase-runtime is for years a transitional pkg for kde-runtime. See

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=kdebase-runtime&searchon=names&exact=1&suite=all&section=all

kdebase-runtime is not installed in new installations. So installing kup via dpkg complains about missing dependency kdebase-runtime. But all kdebase-runtime pkg does is depending on kde-runtime, which is always already installed in kubuntu.

Depending on kde-runtime would make dpkg -i kup.. work out of the box for kubuntu.

Thx for kid3 and inode/directory in desktop file, that will be part of next release.

So before I forget it, let's document it here:
You mentioned an old problem of a user with kid3 used as default app for directories (instead of dolphin). In case this pops up again one can check https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220806 for a IMHO hackish fix with a second desktop file. (But hopefully with D.Faure help this will soon list the proper fix ;-) ).

Achim Nov 14 2014
Thx, a lot! Looks like I've to setup a Framework 5 build environment ...

Have you an estimate when a kid3 for Framework5 will be released?

About qt/4KDE4: At least the for KDE4 variant of kid3:
The dialog that pops up when one double click the cover contains already the mimetype (my guess: taglib returns this info?). So maybe one can use these info to feed the right name into the dialog opened by 'export...' button for KDE4?

On the other hand a kde/qt4 fix is maybe not worth the extra work with plasma5/framework almost ready for endusers.

Thx a lot again.

Nov 14 2014
I've found a little bug in an otherwise really great tool: The suggested default filename in kid3 when exporting a cover is always folder.jpg, even when the cover in the mp3 is image/png.

As 'export' does no convertion png->jpg one has to 'fix' extention of the suggested filename to
be folder.png.

Would be nice if the default filename: folder.(jpg|png) would be determined by the mimetype.

Thx a lot for a great tool!

Hi Joachim,

kfritz doesn't handle Umlauts in the telephon list. The Xml from the fritzbox is in ISO-8859-1 That's strange! :-(

...
[libfritz++/Tools.cpp:100] detected codeset is 'UTF-8'
...
onbook using xml parser.
[libfritz++/XmlFonbook.cpp:195] using charset iso-8859-1
...

Example: When lone oad from fritzbox unmodified, it's displayed correctly:

Name=Mücke

Double click -> enters edit mode:

Name=M<?>cke

Now instead of an ü I get a ? on a black caro like <?>

Without changing anything ESC -> leave edit mode. Still the M<?>cke is displayed.

When I do enter edit mode again the <?> changes to a simple ? same when one leaves edit mode.

Achim
P.S. How about asking KDE sysadmin for a kfritz product in bugs.kde.org? Or would you prefer launchpad? Or ... Feb 05 2011
Great! Thx!

Can you point me to the source repository
or sent me the patch (allee@kubuntu.org)?

I would like to add the patch to the .deb
before suggesting it for upload.

I had a look at the xml phonebook file. Looks like kfritz can't parse

<number
type="xxxx" />

it takes the next field until </number>
as the phone number.

Because the tel# are always saved in the order home, work, then mobile, All mobile fields are okay, Here an example for wrong home column:

In xml file:
...
<number
type="home" />
<number type="work" prio="1">07654321</number>
<number
type="mobile" />
...

displays

<number type="work" prio="1">07654321

in the home column of the fritz adressbook tab.

Achim Jan 14 2011
In the private and work columns of the fritz phonebook, ~ every 5 displayed telefon # looks like:

<number type="xxxx" prio="1">076543/1234567

with type is xxxx = work in the private column and xxxx = mobile is the work column.

The handy column contains only correctly displayed telephon #

Kubuntu Maverick with KDE 4.6 rc2 from ppa.

Thanks a lot for working on Fritz!Box support in KDE!

I've read already, that you work on adding Phone# entries via kfritz. Really looking forward to use it!! Bonus would be drag and drop between kaddressbook or kmail vcard attachments

My(!) ultimate goal/wish for KDE integration is
a) access the fritzbox phonebook in akonadi and therefore kaddressbook too.
b) sync fritzbox phonebook, kaddressbook and your favorite mobile phone.

Thx a lot again,

Ah, Mark Purcell uploaded yesteday night 0.4.8 to debian. So it was
easy to create a Kubuntu Feisty deb:

http://www.mpe.mpg.de/~ach/kubuntu/feisty/Pkgs.php

Achim Jul 20 2007
Make sure you have for every line

deb ...

in /etc/apt/sources.list a

deb-src ...

line too.

Then

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get build-dep knemo

this installs everything needed
to build the knemo version of
your distro. If no new dependency
was added to 0.4.7 it will then
build without problems.

Achim

Alternatively wait a bit, I'm quite
busy, but updating knemo debs in now
on my TODO Jul 20 2007
Hi Percy,

good luck with our new house.
I know how much time it consumes ;)

Achim Feb 20 2007
knemo is in Kubuntu already:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/knemo

In case mean: add knemo onto the kubuntu CDROM and be installed by default, well, to make this happen
Hagbard and or we, the kubuntu developers, have to make it at least
working/cooperating nicely with knetworkmanager.

Unfortunately there are currently more pressing needs for the next kubuntu release so don't hold your breath.

Volunteers are always welcome and can speed up inclusion considerably ;)

Achim Feb 16 2007
Hi Percy,

simplified: knetworkmanager goal is to manage network access, knemo one to show info/statistics. Overlap: Both have to monitor the interface status to reach their goal.

And there I see future of knemo: refactor the info/statistics handling into a library. This way knetworkmanger can be extended with
much missing info/statistics features.
(or course ask k-n-m authors first if
they don't have other plans ;)

And for other, who don't like/need k-n-m, they can continue to use knemo.

Integration/cooporation is one of the strength of KDE. But lot's of apps in kde-apps are 'only' selfcontained.
Providing a core funktionality (via lib, plugins, or DCOP) and application
wrapper is IMHO much better, because
other apps can make use of them.

To the extreme: splitting the data collecting and widgets doing the visualisation, into separate libs would allow the dozends of networkstatus applets authors work on/with a common core and just implement their favorite UI.

Achim -- how favours yet another distro ;) Nov 09 2006
Confirmed on Kubuntu Dapper 6.06.
The change was done by Dirk Mueller
on 6-Aug-2006

trunk/extragear/network/knemo/knemod/knemod.desktop #570450:570451

I'll revert this for Kubuntu/Debian pkgs and ask Dirk why he did this.

As is, 'load-on-demand' is only triggered when one opens knemos kcm module.

Maybe Dirk thinks that the correct way is that when knemo is configured it should also write

X-KDE-Kded-autoload=true
X-KDE-Kded-load-on-demand=false

to the desktop file??? In this case
his fix was incomplete ;)

Independent of this it would be nice
if knemo could be stopped/started in
knemo config dialog additionally to
'KDE Services'.

Achim Aug 14 2006
Hi,

thx for debugging the problem.

I've fixed the Makefile.ams in SVN to list all_includes last (should always be the case).

Let's Percy decide if the want's to rename data.h in addition.

Achim Aug 14 2006

sorry I replied to the slackware msg

Achim Jul 05 2006
Hi Diego,

knemo is in KDE svn and therefore the
KDE translation team coordinates the
translations.

Can you please send your translation to
the russian l10n team? See

http://i18n.kde.org/teams/infos.php?teamcode=ru

The team takes care to merge your translation into the KDE repository.

Thx a lot for your work!

Hi raphink,

one can add menues to the icons
in systray: configure -> interface
tab, in group context menu.

Problem is that many distros
and non linux *ixes do it in
different ways So it's
hard to ship something useful
for all. (knemo does not rely
on linux only features)

Of cource distros can preconfigure
the menus in their binary pkgs.
I'm sure users will appreciate this.

Achim
P.S. Let's chat in 3 hours about
this :) Feb 16 2006
No need to feel sorry ;)

I've fixed the knemo's kcontrol
desktop file in KDE's svn, and my
debian & kubuntu pkg sources.

So in next knemo release/pkg
it's possible to search with success
for knemo and other keywords.

In an earlier comment it is
already mentioned that code

will do the trick ;)

Look at the first line of the errors.
you miss iwlib.h.

sudo aptitude install libiw-dev

installs the file.

FWIW: you can check build dependencies
of pkgs with:

$ apt-cache showsrc wlassistant | grep -i build-dep
Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5.0), scons, cdbs, kdelibs4-dev, net-tools, wireless-tools, libiw-dev, librsvg2-bin

you need to uncomment the deb-src lines
in sources.list to get 'showrc' data.

Achim Dec 01 2006
Can you be more specific?

You can add wlassitant icon
next to the systray without problem.
While not in the systray at least next
to it ;)

Maybe have a look at

ksystraycmd --help

Hi, a stupid/curious question from a non-developer. Is there any technical problem that prevents to write a kimageio (sp? name?) wrapper around your image format plugins so all KDE apps can display those additional formats too? I assume kimageio is slower! Better slow that a black frame or "can't dispaly" dialog ;) Achim Nov 15 2005
Hi, well, there's also the other way round: (danger ;) every kipi-plugins is free to use whatever libs they like. There also no need to add every kipi-plugin to the kipi-plugins tarball so (danger, danger ;): If you or someone else find some time and interest you can add a kipi-interface to your 'plugins' which allows all other kipi aware apps to use the your plugins. Plugins are all about sharing. Achim P.S. If it's not already possible that every plugins announces that image types it can handle, it can be implemented. AFAIK the API will be extented to allow delayed loading of plugins. So specify your requirement on kde-imaging ml and maybe the next API has every- thing you need. Nov 15 2005
Hi, other imageviewers like gwenview, showimage support already kipi- plugins. Ksquirrel would gain much more image manipulation features if it would support kipi-plugins too. For more infos see http://extragear.kde.org/apps/kipi/ All the hosting app has to do is to pass the plugins a URL, or a list of URLs ;) Achim Nov 15 2005

Well, is it easier to fix some bugs in knemo or write something like knetdockapp from scratch? Btw. and I like powerful apps as long as they provide a very simple interface. It would just be nice to have a tools with more than one developer behind it. Nevertheless, I'm sure that yodor had much fun coding it and as this is very important too. Maybe some of the network monitor tools devels enjoy working together for something easy to use and powerful in the future. Achim Oct 10 2005

Hi vardhman,

don't forget that kipi-plugins can
be used by the standalone imageviewers
gwenview and showimg too ;)

If one needs/wants additional image correction
capabilities one can add a kipi
interface to showfoto.

Achim Sep 27 2005
Hi,
it looks like you looked at the wrong
plugins interface. Digikam has two:
1) digikamimageplugins works on one
image in memory (used by the digikams image editor)
2) kipi-plugins work on a colletion
of files. (This is used the the
flickr plugins that will be part of the next kipi-pluigins release). kipi-plugins
interface is cross-applications and
used now by digikam, gwenview kimdaba and showimg.

With kipi-plugins it's possible
to write a simple app that accepts a list of
files from command line (or via
a desktop file with Exec: kipiflickr %U and drag&drop).
This app can just load the flickr
kipi-plugin and one can upload.
(Of course this would work with all
kipi-plugins not just flickr)

Have a look at
