It's still a nice iconset, I've been using it for a long time now, but I do notice that in some apps the icons do not size well.

Take a look here → http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i222/nilesnow/0006.png

This makes some apps pretty unusable. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? - Apr 17 2011

Oops, so it's not a common bug? Strange... The fontsize in the button itself is the same, yet okay to read (though having three '...' which seem not needed), but the pop-up box appears to be too small, see → http://tinyurl.com/32r3rtt

Actually not the popup is too small, but the font used is too big. It looks like a 12 or 13-size font, while in my systemsettings I have set the size for most fonts to 10, 11 being the biggest size. I have tried using other fontsizes, but they don't seem to affect this very popup / button.

- Jun 04 2010
The beta works very fine here, however I experience one small bug: the "Add files"-dialogue in the lower left of the main window uses some huge font when being opened, so for example instead of "Add CD tracks" one can only read "Add C...ks...". I do not have such a fontsize configured within KDE.

Beside that: even as a beta sK remains to be the best ripper in town.

Thank you. - Jun 03 2010
No idea why smart couldn't import it (it wasn't able to do on several 10.3s), but anyway, importing it via you rpm-command did the trick and smart knows about the key now. Thank you again!

- Apr 06 2008
Is there any way I can import the gpg-key of your repository?

Output from smart on SuSE 10.3:

"gpg failed to import keyid 7d03c235f7e182e7, please make sure that gpg is installed, that the keyserver subkeys.pgp.net is working and that the package /var/lib/smart/packages/soundkonverter-0.3.7-9.1.i586.rpm has a valid signature."

You can find a similar colourscheme for KDE4 here:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Hallow?content=113766

Looks pretty close to SmoothOrange.

Not yet - I made a KDE4-color-scheme which I will post at kde-look soon, but it has a somewhat different look and is done from scratch.

Porting this one to KDE4 will take some time, but I will keep it in my mind, okay?

Thank you very much for your positive comment, I really apreciate that. :)

This is truely a very nice font, obviously created with lots of affection. It would be nice if you could add special characters like germanic umlaut (see Wikipedia), ß, french, scandinavian characters and the like.

I know it would mean a lot of work, but this way it's only usable for english desktops.

Normally open source is not only about keeping an app free, but also inviting other developers to participate, that's one of the main reasons to release a code at all.

But - if you do not wish to work together with others, that's perfectly okay of course. OS gives you that freedom as well. It's just pretty unusual. :)

Anyway: it's cool to have ManDVD back (have to test it yet, though...), and that is what counts. So thank you.

Whoooohooo, it works! Thank you so much! It's perfect! It's fast (tested a second backup already), it's pretty, it's easy, I bet it's even reliable!

I guess I simply got confused by that "Browse" button, like "Hokay, so this is where I set the excluded paths... oops, clicking a folder doesn't work, awrite, so I type it manually..." etc., also I only had my first coffee when giving lB a first try. *cough* I have worked with rsync before, but I simply forgot about those path-options-thingy.

I love rsync a lot, but you made it even more useful by creating the possibility to use profiles (my favourite feature), this makes things a *lot* easier. I'm looking forward to test the CLI-Version. Thank you again!

OT: Thanks as well to the KDE4-SuSE-packagers, they do a *great* job in providing the best and most useful KDE4 of any distribution so far.

This one hits a spot - I was looking for an app to backup my /home-folder for a long time now (prefer external solutions for /-partitions → Clonezilla). So first of all: thank you.

I must report some troubles, though...

1. Excluding folders does not work for me, although the rsync-command mentions them (after hitting the "Validate"-button):

rsync -h --progress --stats -r -tgo -l -p -D --update --delete-after --delete-excluded --exclude=/home/kalle/backup --exclude=/home/kalle/musik --exclude=/home/kalle/daten --exclude=/home/kalle/.azureus

Note that the destination-folder (/backup) should be excluded as well - there should be a warning that it still will be included, but no message appears; all folders are backed up into ~/backup (~/.azureus, ~/musik and ~/daten too).

2. The "Browse"-button in the "exclude" / "include"-module only allows to choose files, no folders. So there might be a misunderstanding on my side - is it possible to ex- or include folders at all? If not, why is that so? That would make luckyBackup totally useless for me.

3. The manual can't be found. For installation I used the .rpm for SuSE (plus 'luckybackup-doc') from the KDE4:Community-repo. When calling the manual, it says "Either luckyBackup is not installed correctly or you have executed the binary from a different directory than the one it was Intended to... :-(", though it is located in /usr/share/doc/packages/luckybackup/manual/index.html (fine manual, by the way).

Feel free to send me a message in case cooperative troubleshooting is needed. I really want this app - no wonder it's rated that good... - Mar 21 2009

The SuSE-.rpm does not work:

03:53 hoppers:/home/kalle/hypervcrpm-qt4 # rpm -Uhv hypervc-0.4-linux-2.6-intel.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libqtcore4 is needed by hypervc-0.4-0.i386
libqtgui4 is needed by hypervc-0.4-0.i386

The requested packages do not exist for openSUSE (I suppose they're simply named differently, on oS there is 'libQtCore.so.4' in 'libqt4', so the dependency should be libqt4 instead).

Yet the generic script works perfectly, and hypervc is a useful little thingy, very nice. I *would* have preferred it to be installed in /usr/local/bin though, but well...

I really like the 'create command'-button. I'm looking forward to post endless commands in forums in case someone asks how to convert a .h264-clip with flac-Audio to a .xvid with .mp3 and a custom sample-rate, haha.

:D

I get the point, but still... shouldn't that be even one more reason to explain the command-line instead of installing Winrar and run it via an "emulator"? N00bies also do not know the Gimp, Konqueror or Pidgin as well - so what? Should they be provided with Photoshop, IE and um... whatever messenger there is for Windows?

The command-line fast, useful and usually provides more functions than their GUI-pendants. The sooner one will use it, the better. - May 23 2008

openSUSE has different kde-paths from most other distros, that might be the reason I guess. That will be changed with KDE4, though.

KStumble still works fine over here!

- Jan 12 2008
Okay, thanks for the lil' tutorial - but what made me miss the functions of KStumble was this: kstumble.desktop is copied to /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus, though it has to be copied to ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus, at least that's how it works for me.

Stumbling, rating, logging in etc. works well. Still: are there any chances for a decent SU-Toolbar in Konqueror?

Nice work! - Jan 09 2008
Installs perfectly, but I don't see any changes after installing. How do we use this? KStumble defenitely needs some kind of documentation.

Still a good idea, though. I'd love to use SU with Konqueror as well. - Jan 09 2008

A few weeks ago I accidentally found out about a feature in SMPlayer which I have never seen being mentioned before: SMP is able to play .iso-files directly from hd. Only drawback: it still does not recognize the main menu when an .iso or DVD is launched, but (mostly) starts with the main film. Yet it's nice I that I don't need stuff like AcetoneIso anymore to preview an .iso before burning it.

There's not much more to say about SMPlayer, it's my favourite player, because it's perfect (except for the DVD-menu-thingy).

The idea of creating a player in the same vein as Kuickshow is great, and Kuickplay truly is the fastest player beside Console-players, so thank you for giving it to us!

Yet there's room for improvement:

- The .tgz doesn't contain any instructions

- Kuickplay should be offered in any folder containing audio-files, not only, when they are marked

- It doesn't work when multiple files are chosen (simply doesn't play anything)

- It should be possible to set Kuickplay as default-player whenever an audio-file is clicked (fast previewing seems to be the main idea behing KP, or am I wrong?), it would also be nice to be able to integrate KP for example in Thunderbird (so it would be launched whenever an audio-attachement is clicked)

- After launching, the volume-slider is set at half, but the actual volume is at 100% (by the way, that should be optional)

- The GUI needs some more work, it should be a little smaller and less blue

Yet I really like KP a lot, so please keep on working!

Strange, for me selecting single files works with no prob... but I experienced the same window-behaviour, which really was a pain. bitcrazys idea seems to be right, since the window can be set to normal size when all torrents are stopped and the 'Firewall-message' disappears.

BUT: this seems to be solved with the last release 2.2, so give it another try after upgrading.

Yet again there is no VHT-support for this version when taken from the SuSE-Guru-repo... Raoul, these are your builds, aren't they? Why is VHT always disabled? - Jul 12 2007
KTorrent is getting better with each release - thank you for a great app!

Is there a reason why the .rpm-packages for openSUSE 10.2 do not provide the VHT-feature? When compiling Ktorrent myself, VHT is included, in the versions I get from KDE-backports and guru, VHT is an option in the settings-dialogue, but it's alway marked as 'off'.

It would be nice to see a manual included as well, since it is offered in the 'Help'-menu.

I recommend to update the screenshots here on kde-apps, since the GUI has changed a lot meanwhile and offers many new features.

Thank you for taking care, now it works! Yet I still wonder why this has to be such a hassle all of a sudden. The deviant-archive didn't even needed to be unpacked, it could be installed simply by choosing it in KControl, now there's a script which has to run for several minutes before the actual install can take place...

Anyway, this set is worth even more hassle, so thank you again!

» Well, I'm running a 5-year old thunderbird at 1400MHz with just about the same amount of RAM so your system should be able to run the program fine based solely on your hardware.

I'm sure it is not a hardware issue, since the original Katapult does run without a flaw.

» I guess the design of the dialog box is a bit misleading because you tend to assume the Catalogs part is just a heading.

True, that's why I was overlooking this. Switching off catalogues does help, when no catalogue at all is activated - but well... that makes Katapult a little pointless :) . Even when only the calculator is activated, the behaviour of freezing is there again.

Kay, I'll mail you some (hopefully cleaned) strace-outputs, and since my prob seems to be pretty isolated, we'll do further bughunting by mail.

- Jun 24 2007
dilettante, I made a long reply to your Questions yesterday ('re: Needs some more work') but somehow it did not appear here, so I am opening another thread.

I am running a Athlon Thunderbird at 1365 MHz, 510 MB RAM with a 32bit SuSE, 3D-support is off.

Forget about the kicker-behaviour, it only occurs when I am using kicker during the freeze and seems to be an independent process.

You'll have to explain 'disabling catalogues' a bit more, since I only see an option to switch off the Mozilla-bookmarks-search, which does not change anything, same with moving
katapultrc... I also tried to change some more settings (more or less randomly), but that does not affect the freezes. Um... maybe I'll do a 'strace katapult' later - if you could give me a hint how to grep the output (would be insane to put the whole output on kde-apps).
- Jun 24 2007
Thank you for trying to pump some fresh blood into Katapult - unfortunately, the fork hardly works for me.

Pretty much every action I try is followed by a sort of semi-freeze (mouse flickers and stops moving every half second, xorg uses up to 90% of cpu, Kicker up to 25%) and Katapult will not react for about a minute, in which the widget does not disappear. From what I can tell, the basic functions do work, but they are heavily interrupted and therefore unuseable. Starting it from Konsole doesn't show any output, compiling the source went 100%ly smooth.

Running openSuSE 10.2 / KDE 3.5.7, the original Katapult does work. Hope this'll get fixed, because I really like your ideas for improving good ol' Katapult.

Hey, ever stumbled over an applet called 'KTeatime'? It is providing pretty much the same function, also in a lightweighted way. Also it's easy enough to modify preset-times and -names (like Pizza » 15 Minutes, Tofu-Lasagna » 35 Minutes or whatever (instead of 'Earl Grey')). You can even set the alarm-soundfile. Shouldn't be too much of a hassle getting rid of the teacup-trayicon as well and replace it with a tofu-lasagna-icon. Or something. - Jun 23 2007

The tarball gave me the mentioned error-message when I unpacked as well, yet the same package was unpacked without any errors when I treated it via command-line, so I guess it might be some kinda bug in Ark (not the only one...).

Just a few words @KatchTV: It's a funny lil' app, thank you! It could need a little more stability, also a simple dialogue to set the player or the download-folder would be nice (letting the user guess how and where to set the symlink isn't a good way...). I haven't tested Yakuake-beta long enough to say it's stable, but so far it works without any misbehaviour. The new actions and options add some great functionality, I do esp. enjoy the fullscreen-mode and resizing Yakuake with shortcuts, which is useful with split windows. The new focusing behaviour is a good idea, too.

I used to have a problem when having 'export TMOUT=900' written in my /etc/.bashrc.local (to automatically close root-shells after 15 minutes of inactivity) - this used to crash Yakuake, but now it works!

But:

- Since resizing can be set by shortcuts, moving Yakuake should be too

- The shortcut-setup could be moved to 'configure Yakuake'

- Aren't there any decent skins except the default one?

Nevertheless, Yakuake is better than ever! Thank you! - May 06 2007
