Kool Morning

Plasma 4 Widgets

Description:

This plasmoid shows if other computers on the network are up and running or not. A sleeping computer on the same lan can be turned on by wake-on-lan.

The status is evaluated on basis of ping, which is executed every 5 secs. Currently this value is not configurable.

The plasmoid requires the icmp dataengine to work.

This is a fork of Kood Morning http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Kood+Morning?content=117378. It was necessary to fork after two years of no development of the original work. I hope it can resume one day, so the code can be merged.

I just recognized that Kool Morning pings each host that is online once every second. I think this is a bit much (once in a minute would still be more than enough for my use case). It would be nice if it was possible to adjust this setting.

Hi,

First of all thanks for maintaining this fork. In my current configuration, Kood morning does not work. Even worse: it makes plasma hang as soon as I run it. But Kool morning works fine.

Kood morning had a feature to execute an arbitrary command (not just sending ICMP packets) to check whether a host is "up" or not. Can you add this feature also to Kool morning?

I like the ability to mark hosts as "Printer", "Router" etc. Can you also add something like "Server"?

Finally: it would be nice to see the names of the hosts without hovering the cursor over them (at least optionally).

A big thank you if you can make anything of this happen.

"Unable to load the widget
Could not create a python ScriptEngine for the Kool Morning widget"

I've installed the icmp-dataengine already.

Searches suggest that I lack a python/kde package:

https://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Plasma/Python/GettingStarted

I'm on Archlinux and I've installed every python & kde related package that seems relevant. Exactly what files does the plugin need?

How to change icons?

I've just added a new screenshot. There you can see where to select the device type. Each type has got its own icon.
Enjoy and, please, send some feedback.

Do you could modify to display an icon of computer, router or printer? that icon would be selected during configuration. would show a gray icon if the device is off and in color if it is on.

Thank you!

You are welcome.
I just did it! ;-)

And I fixed the bug that changed the size of the plasmoid at the start up.

Download the new version and give me more advice.

I forgot to say this: the color scheme is unchanged. This means green is for online, red for offline and grey still for unknown status.
