Description:

This is an idea of adding more content providers to KDE wallpaper properties.

Now, when you right-click on your desktop and select Configure Desktop, a window appears. It has a "magic" Get New Wallpapers button, which fetches the list of wallpapers from KDE servers.
It would be great if the default KDE installation provided also different sources, like the absolutely amazing caedes.net
It should be quite easy to implement, yet providing a useful feature for end-users.

The default installation should have only a few providers integrated, to avoid the feel of being lost ;)

Have you considered developing this yourself as it 'should be pretty easy'?

One of the hardest things about development is to keep the motivation going, but you already have one in a great sounding idea for KDE Improvement ((c),TM) and most of functionality you want is already there -- albeit in different parts of KDE. And rightly speaking only you know your vision and can best realise it.

I think you can do it, even though you may not think you can.

I did a little research ;)

Changing the content provider is as easy as editing a line in ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc

The problem is, a special XML feed is required to make it work with KDE hot stuff.

I will try to mail Caedes admins about it;)

this idea is not bad, but even if it is free, people doesn't like to make more and more accounts and thinking about new passwords, maybe using current passwords for new accouts. If KDE add such feature to provide 3rd party Wallpapers, then there should be a kind of co-working/operating with this 3rd party wallpaper provider. (i.e. an automated anonymous account should be usable similar to anonymous-ftp. then it might be a powerful new feature.) but, if kde-user have to make an account after downloading 10 wallpapers, it might make people angry.

:)

The site provides high quality graphics, and it is FREE. It's true that it requires registration. But the account is free-of-charge

Actually, you never have to register. You can completely ignore that little box and it changes nothing. But you should sign up to support that amazing site.

i don't know if it is a good idea for KDE to deal with third party site
