Amarok is still in my "almost there" list. With Amarok I'm not able to listen to my *.ape files. Besides this Amarok is great.

I really would like to move over to Amarok. But as long as Amaorak is not able to detect the song length of music files (mp3, ogg) properly I will use XMMS :-(

Report

yep, you are right, problems exists

1. bad lenght, especialy with vbr mp3's and it really sucks

2. it is still easy to crash amarok, it hangs often when updating collection (sqlite)

3. using scroll to rewind/forward song is not working well

they need to work on it some more but it is still very good player, very addicting

Many thanks, from my Karma also.

i think that amarok has matured a lot. i remember i always liked the interface but constant freezes forced me to write "killall amarokapp" several times a day as I listen to mp3 all the time.
Now with those 1.4.x versions it has become a lot more stable.

Changing songs is a bit slow - so maybe this should be improved so when You have to find a song among 15 in the list just by listening to the first sounds You don't get frustrated.

Thx for Your good work

In my opinion, Amarok is the best application on KDE-Apps.org.

Its score of 80+% isn't right. I think it should be over 95%.

Keep up the great development work!

it's crap and it should go under 50%

Why don't you like Amarok?

I've been a programmer for years and I think they've done a good job.

Report

because he want's to promote his player that nobody uses

It's good, but it's just too slow and buggy for my use. Specifically:

Slowness:
* Next track takes on the order of 300 ms - way too slow.
* Scrolling through the KHTML Lyrics/Context bits is painful. You can watch as it renders.

Bugs:
* It freezes with ridiculous frequency. Don't know what causes it but it surely can't be one bug. It just froze by me dragging a track from one place to another.
* What's worse is that if it freezes without you noticing, the music stops normally. Naturally you think 'damn hidden tracks' and press your next-track shortcut key, only to have amarok grab the keyboard and block all keypresses! Nothing is more annoying than having to write 'killall amarokapp' without the keyboard!

Juk would be ideal if it had automatic lyrics getting, and the search was fast. One day I shall find the ideal music player.

Thanks for your comments.

I guess I use Amarok differently. I don't try to rearrange tracks so it hardly ever crashes on me.

If you need to kill a process without using the keyboard, I highly recommend 'KPS'. It's available here on KDE-Apps.

You could always try Rhythmbox, but I prefer Amarok. Kaffeine is also looking pretty good these days.

IMO, Amarok is one of the best things since sliced bread.

Thanks for the support :)

FWIW, Scores on kde-apps.org depreciate without a constant stream of updates, so it can be a little difficult to keep up on the 80-90% score mark :).

I have a startuptime from about 25 seconds wit amarok 1.4.2 on KDE 3.5.4 and only a few mp3s in my collection and/or playlist (only about 10, because i am in testing stage ;) )
My Environment should not be the problem, although its not the bleeding edge:
AMD AthlonXP 1800
756 MB RAM
Kubuntut Dapper 6.0.6 with latest KDE.

Does anybody else have this problem?
Can i do something to improve this?

No matter what I do I can't seem to figure how to ./configure successfully. Sanity check?

configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check

Arg. I know lots of iTunes people and the library sharing feature would be useful.

Cannot compile amarok on Kubuntu. Reason= installing fam libfam0 and libfam-dev removes gamin which then removes KDE itself. I am unable to compile amarok on KDE. Solution?

Report

girlienerd

Try running "apt-get build-dep amarok" before compiling. I also had to install ruby as well as libgpod-dev for iPod support.

I have a problem. My mp3s from the playlist are dissapearaing. I mean when I restart the computer many last mp3s from the playlist are disappearing.

This problem should be resolved in 1.4.3.

Or just quit Amarok before closing KDE.

Are amarok-developers classic-haters?

Currently amarok isn't fully useable for me? How can I view my collection sorted by composers?

Report

mebrelith

Should just say RTM, but... do a right click at the columns (you know where title, artist and such are)... select show columns->composer and then just click on it to sort it. Easy!

Report

trink

What are you speaking about?
I've amarok 1.4.1 and I am speaking about the left column, where you have only some predefined views like artist, artist/album or where you can created your own (3-level)view and choose between artist, album, album-year, genre and year.
But there is unfortunately no composer!

Report
