I would like to use your program with a second external USB-connected CD drive.

When I try to access it (ie File/Add CD tracks) I only get a message/window "No audio CD found".

The external CD drive is recognised by linux and the tracks are shown, eg, in RhythmBox.

I do not seem to see anyway of configuring SoundKonvertor to recognise/access the external CD.

Is there a way of doing this?

it just come into my mind that running:
soundkonverter --rip /dev/external_cd
would be simpler. so please try to figure out the name of your cd device and run soundkonverter with these parameters from the console.

the audio cds should be detected by kde, i haven't got much time at the moment and i'm trying to finish version 1.0. maybe it will work with kde4 then, if not please tell me.
if you aren't afraid of compiling soundkonverter you could try to add your device manually.
e.g. add
s.append( "/dev/external_cd" );
to cdmanager.cpp line 62

Hi,

I'm having issues retrieving CD information in soundkonverter, whilst it works ok for Amarok.

Any suggestions?

Report

C

did it stop working or is this a general problem? i currently have no audio cd around in order to test it.

Report

It works ok for some CD's. For others it does not fetch the data.

For the CD's that soundKonverter does not fetch the data for, I opened Amarok and told it to play the CD. Amarok fetched the data ok. This is always with the same CD's by the way, I have not observed any random behaviour.

(Perhaps Amarok has a fall back mechanism to other sources?)

I am using v0.3.8 on Kubuntu 8.10.

Actually that's Kubuntu 8.04 (I had other issues with 8.10 but won't get into that yet)

Looks like the app i have been looking for. Shame that I cannot try it out owing to its not being available for my distro (Fedora 10).
As usual I have tried compiling from source but cannot wade thru the inevitable hundreds of missing dependencies, none of which are easy to track.
Hopefully one day someone will fix Linux so that it is possible to install software without having to have a degree in software development. One can only hope.

Hi HessiJames

Would be nice when m3u playlist files are supported to load.

Thanks.

Just installed v0.3.8, but it can't "find" the 'lame' ("libmp3lame"), faac, faad, etc, programs that my system has installed in /usr/lib (which I added to the "Directories to be scanned").

Any ideas?

Thanks for a great program!

Report

/usr/lib ? are you sure that theses are executeables? soundkonverter needs the binaries of these programs, not their libraries. so you should not install libmp3lame but lame (which may depend on libmp3lame).

Thanks...this pointed me towards what the problem was: I hadn't properly imported the debian-multimedia key (!!). All is well.

Now your prog is even AWESOME-ER!

I'm using the Ubuntu Hardy version of soundKonverter to rip albums to mp3s and I'm finding that it is writing the permissions 600, in other words, group and others have no read permissions. So when I try to play the files from another computer I can't unless I do a "chmod a+r" on them. Is this behavior normal? Is there any way I can change soundKonverter to write music files 666 or 644 by default?

Report

C

HessiJames

this behaviour was not intended. i added a (hidden) option (accessable through the config file) to change the permissions. the default is now 644.

Report

So at some point in the future when I do an 'apt-get dist-upgrade' will I get the new behavior? I didn't see any obvious lines to change in the soundkonverterrc file.

yes, you'll have to wait for the update.

Thank you for this application!

I have installed soundkonverter and soundkonverter-amarok from debian testing repository on my debian testing. Soundkonverter works fine, but the Amarok Skript doesn't do its work in the backround, when I try to copy files to my media player.

CPU frequency indicates that it seems to start but nothing happens and CPU frequency goes down again.

Now I don't know how to find out what goes wrong. There is no Log and no output.

when the conversion starts, a soundkonverter icon is placed in the systemtray, if you click it, the mainwindow gets visible.
the soundkonverter log files are placed in ~/.kde/share/apps/soundkonverter/log please make sure to clean up the log directory before testing it again.

Report

michael-debian

No, there doesn't appear any icon in systemtray.

The Logfile shows no error. It starts with loading all plugins and checking mime types and ends with "save file list: 0". Nothing happens any more.
