That's weird. What vncserver are you using?
I'm currently putting some work into ScreenKast (mainly porting it to KDE4, but also improving the hideous use-friendlyness ;-)). I'll keep you guys posted of any changes.

I was lacking funds to continue the captorials website (streaming video, you know ;-) ), but recently, some people contacted me with hosting solutions, and I've started working on a new version, together with a new screenKast app (kde 4). It won't be for any time soon (think months, not weeks), but expect something to happen. :)

great app, easy to install thanks to the ubuntu packages.
When I start a session, though, I get a terminal whereas I'd much rather record my desktop. Am I missing something stupid? Any help greatly appreciated. Will write a howto in return :)
Cheers

i cannot install on Debian SID with your package because there is a dependency of libxml++2.6-1c2a in the INFO File but this is not in the unstable Repository.
Can you change this or is thre an misunderstanding by me?
Thanks for advice.

When i try to launch screenkast as a user it gives;
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
screenkast: cannot connect to X server :0.0
As root the program runs but i get a blue screen..
Could this be related to the fact that i use gdm instead of kdm on a kde desktop?

You can use the "vncpasswd" command to set a password for you local VNC server. Just run vncpasswd in a terminal and enter your password (twice). From then, on, you should be able to start/stop the server from within ScreenKast.
If you want this explanation in a graphical way, please see the software section at captorials.com. If you encounter another error, don't hesitate to reply or contact me personally.

I have two small request though.
Once you save the video ScreenKast asks to save the project first. Is that necessary? Maybe you could create a temporary file?
Could you add the vncserver as a dependency to the Ubuntu packages?

Sorry, it wasn't obviously Your fault. I discovered there were two instances of libinstrudeo (5 files), installed in /usr/local/lib and /usr/lib. So I backed-up those in the 1-st dir, and left those in the second one as they should be. Screenkast started without the last error. Now remains how to use it? :)
Best wishes!
