Description:

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.

One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

Other additional interesting features:

* Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
* Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
* Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
* Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
* Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
* Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
* Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
* Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....

Last changelog:

Try with QMAKE_CXXFLAGS_RELEASE instead.

Great app! But I've got one annoying problem. When I turn on the "add black borders" option then my .rmvb videos look like that:

http://www.imagehosting.com/show.php/1581741_screen.jpg.html

Because of that I can't watch rmvb with subtitles under the video.

NVM I solved that problem by updating mplayer to newest SVN version.

And once again
Best GUI video player ever!!
Keep up the good work!

Hi,

When I set the 'high speed playback without altering pitch' option, smplayer will not play any videos at all.

This option will use the new scaletempo filter in mplayer, which was added in version dev-SVN-r24924 (from Nov./01/2007). Be sure you have a version recent enough.

The best is to set 'high speed playback without altering pitch' to auto, so smplayer will use or not the scaletempo according to the version of mplayer you're using.

Thanks. I got the build from the smplayer sourceforge site, and scaletempo works perfectly.

I have just started using smplayer and I too find it very good. What it lacks for me is an smplayer_part so that you can use it to watch embedded movies in web pages. Currently I use kmplayer for this but it has its problems.Any plans?

Hello,

I have been using smplayer for some time now. Very usefull and handy.

But now my problem. With version 0.5.20 I could open an v4l device (forexample /dev/video0) and it does what I wanted it to do: connect to it and "play" the signal.
But now I've got kde4.0, and I would like to do the same with smplayer version 0.5.62 or the newest (working with qt 4), and it does not work anymore.

Do I overlook something or...

Well, I think I didn't change anything about it since 0.5.20, but I don't have any v4l device so I can't test.

Does mplayer give any error when you try to open /dev/video0? (Options -> View logs)

Report

First it's not easy to open the /dev/video0 device. When opening a file, it does not show up in the selectionwindow. But when writing the file explicit in the location, it takes it.

It then starts mplayer, but this does not start. I get the error:

Debug: MplayerProcess::parseLine:
'Option vf-add: screenshot doesn't exist'

Mmm, I don't know if it's related, but first try to disable the screenshot feature (go to prefereces->general and clear the screenshot path).

If that doesn't work then copy here the whole mplayer log.

Hello,

it works now. Like I said I've cleared the path of the screenshot directory.

Futher I have to enter the path of the video device only once, next time I can select the device from the recent list.

What's the latest version of SMplayer that can be compiled with QT3 and what libraries does it need? I've tested the own script and the instructions some nice fellow gave on his comment but to no avail.

Note that I am using Sidux as my distro, but it happily accepts Debian packages from sid repository. I don't want to install QT4 since Sidux mods warned me about it.

Can anyone help?

A few weeks ago I accidentally found out about a feature in SMPlayer which I have never seen being mentioned before: SMP is able to play .iso-files directly from hd. Only drawback: it still does not recognize the main menu when an .iso or DVD is launched, but (mostly) starts with the main film. Yet it's nice I that I don't need stuff like AcetoneIso anymore to preview an .iso before burning it.

There's not much more to say about SMPlayer, it's my favourite player, because it's perfect (except for the DVD-menu-thingy).

Also thanks to raoul for building the SuSE-.rpms!

It's not a secret feature, it's mentioned in the Changelog. And in fact it was added a long time ago (version 0.3.36).

The problem with the DVD menu is mainly because mplayer doesn't support it properly yet.

Just an idea:
Can you create the VideoWidget on a Dock Widget, too, then you can have Tabs(VideoWidget, Playlist) :-)

Cheers
