Description:

Ever wished your favourite editor/im/media player had system tray
docking capabilities? KDocker will help you dock any application in the system tray. This means you can dock openoffice, firefox, thunderbolt, anything! Just point and click. Works for both KDE and GNOME (and reportedly on XFCE)

You can also launch and dock applications using the command line
kdocker -mt xmms
kdocker -m gaim
kdocker kcalc
kdocker -l firefox (will autolaunch firefox)

kdocker -h for more options & features

IMPORTANT: Make sure KDocker is in your $PATH for Session Management to work. I
created a link in /usr/bin to point to kdocker. KDocker will automatically dock
all the programs that you had docked in your previous session when you log on
the next time (provided they were all docked when you logged out).

Read the INSTALL and README for all the gory details.

Well, all you have to do is
kdocker program arguments_to_program
Which version od KDocker are you using?

Try this,
1. Kill all instances of KDocker.
2. From a console/konsole/shell "kdocker ls -l". It should display the output of the "ls -l". Does that work?

Feel free to mail me at gramakri@uiuc.edu.

Hello, I've installed kxdocker-0.24 and it is all done except for a problem of visualization : when I execute application it remains on top for few seconds and then there isn't in the screen! Just the configuration tool in the kicker bar I can use but I cannot use the kxdocker bar..so what's the problem? I'm on kde 3.3.1
tbx
p.s. how to upgrade from 0.24 to 1.0?

It's a great programme. However, I cannot use it :-( It keeps the apps minimized and it is impossible to restore them. I mean, when you click on a xmms icon docked in a system tray, it opens for a second and gets minimized again. It is really annoying.
I've got suse 9.2.

Are you using 1.0 rc2? KDE or GNOME?

Try this and let me know if it helped,
1. In the context menu, unselect "dock when minimized" and see if it is ok
2. In the context menu, unselect "dock when obscured" and see if it is ok

Thank you,
Girish

Hey, which option fixed it? Also, what version of kdocker are you are using? Looks like a bug. I can fix it if you provide me the details.

I had "dock when minimized" selected so I unselected it. "dock when obscured" was unselected from the beginning. I guess I use the last version since I downloaded it few days ago from Sourceforge.

aaaaaaah. something wrong with the kde-apps add comment. anyway, let me try again.

i am trying to say, please add a line #include stdlib.h in src/kdocker.cpp.
have angle brackets around stdlib.h (you will find many other #include's in the file).

if you are developer, you probably get what i am saying. if not, i will be glad to help your out more.

will be fixed in final release

Yup, I know that :) XMMS is one of my favorite testing grounds. The plugin cannot offer functionality, like skipping the taskbar, autodock when xmms is obscured, changing the ugly(imo) icon. Or can it? The best part of the plugin is the context menu which KDocker can never provide.

Report

brunes

Well, it does skip the taksbar when hidden.

Anyways, I was just trying to make the point that your summary of KDocker is misleading.

Ok, I thought this had to do with my ChangeLog. My description is misleading indeed. And its been that way ever since I posted KDocker here :( Thanks for pointing that out.

My old p3-450 just can't run efficiently kde as a graphic environment, so i use the lightweight xfce4 but many kde apps.

kdocker works fine with xfce and i use it to dock apps to the xfce4-panel.
