Changes in 3.0.5: 1 year ago

* Improved Wayland support.
* Yakuake's window title now always matches what's shown in its title bar.
* Fixed button icons in the 'Appearance' settings page.
* Yakuake now installs a D-Bus service file. This allows calling its D-Bus methods even when Yakuake is not running yet- it will then be started implicitly.
* Fixed a crash due to a missing bounds check in the 'sessionAtTab' D-Bus method.
* Fixed a type marshalling issue with the 'addSession' D-Bus method that caused a noisy warning when using it via qdbus.
* Yakuake now depends on KDE Frameworks 5.29 or higher.

Oh and make sure Yakuake isn't running while you edit the config file so your change isn't overwritten.

You can currently add tabs that have two or four terminals. However, what I most need this feature for is if I don't want to dismiss the output of some program and open a new terminal to use the information in it. However, you cannot add a new terminal side by side next to an existing one, you need to create a new tab to do that.

It would be cool if you could start a new terminal next to the current one, side by side.

Disregard that, I found how to do that.

Yakuake is the best thing to ever happen to the terminal. I just started compiling a kernel and thought "Wouldn't it be nice if I could move this to a konsole type window with a control key instead of opening another tab?"

Report

Unfortunately it's technically not possible at this time to move a terminal from Yakuake to a Konsole window.

Hello, can you add support for sliding popups efect in Compiz? I enabled KDE Compatibility and support sliding popups plugin in Compiz and KDE Main Menu have nice slide animation. I'm using Compiz because Kwin is very unstable on my machine.

Report

C

Sho

I'm very sorry, but I have no interest in adding code specific to Compiz to Yakuake. You're saying that Compiz already has some sort of KDE compatibility codepath - most likely its compatibility with KDEs Sliding Popup effect is just outdated right now, not supporting the new animation duration parameter added in KDE 4.6. I'd suggest talking to the Compiz devs to enhance that so Yakuake works too.

Probably this has been mentioned already (too many comments to go through and check) but in case if not here it goes. Yakuake seems to lack of option to save the window split and location in each terminal. No need to say why this would be an advantage.

Ideally I think it would be to have a choice like this:
> save permanently current window split:
>>> a) with locations
>>> b) without locations
or:
> always save split on exit:
>>> a) with locations
>>> b) without locations

Report

tobaj

Just realized that locations could be saved only if on related terminals the user logged in was the same as the one logged in to the system..

Hi tobaj,

please read this recent comment on the current state of session save and restore support: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149522#c16

Don't know exactly if this is a feature request or an issue.

When you right click on the term window on yakuake, and click "configure", you can set the option to start in the same directory of the active tab, but that doesn't reflects on yakuake behave. Every time I open a new tab, I've start on home dir.

It would be awesome to have this feature working!

I still have yakuake 2.9.7, don't know if this has changed in 2.9.8 by the way...

Report

That this doesn't work is a bug in the Konsole KPart component, which Yakuake embeds to display terminals - the profile configuration dialog is part of the KPart as well.

Seems to not play 100% with taskbar at top of screen in Fedora 14 KDE 4.6.

Report

C

Sho

That's extremely vague, could you provide details?

Report

gzu

Hi,

Previously on KDE 4.5.5 (fedora 14) with the taskbar at the top of the screen yakuake would drop down from below the taskbar and would raise without any corruption of the display. In 4.6 it corrupts the taskbar at the top when it drops down, and the taskbar does not immediately redraw itself when yakuake is closed/raised so can stay corrupted for a short time.

This is not a major issue as it doesn't actually break anything.

Thanks,

G.

Thanks. The issue you describe is a bug in KDE's window manager kwin (i.e. not in Yakuake) that was fixed recently. The fix should be in KDE SC 4.6.2.

Report

gzu

Hi,

Of course if I uncheck "use window manager for animation" yakuake works perfectly.

Doh!

Thanks,

Report

C

Sho

Yes, the bugfix was done in the kwin code that performs the animation when that option is enabled. Once you get 4.6.2 you can use it again.

I found a bug using vertical panels with twinview (and probably xinerama too).

I got a second monitor on the right of my default monitor and the kde panel on the left of the default monitor.

When I open Yakuake (set to 100% width) it is cut of on the right side (menu button and scroll bar not visible).

When I scale it to 80% using a keyboard shortcut (alt shift arrow) and back to 100% it has the correct size and nothing is cut of.

But after I retract and reopen yakuake the size is wrong again.

Report

C

Sho

Sounds like it might be related to this one, which I haven't been able to reproduce: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265818

I wonder if it's KDE-version-specific somehow - Yakuake relies on being supplied with correct work area geometry data from kdelibs for its calculations, after all.

Report

Dorsai

8 years ago

Have you tried to reproduce this with twinview (nvidia) or another sort of dual monitor setup?

For me this is only reproduceable when setting my desktop to dual monitor. In single monitor mode it is gone. It also started occuring after I recently bought my second display.

I am pretty sure that at least what I am seeing (do not know if it is the same problem as the one in the bug report) is related to a multi monitor setup.

* Added back a description file implementing the freedesktop.org AppData specification.

Changes in 3.0.1:

* A new default skin follows the Plasma 5 Breeze design.

* Config changes made via the title bar menu are now synced to disk immediately, and thus preserved if Yakuake is killed instead of quit gracefully.

+A really great application. It even sort of integrated the older quadkonsole e. g. by being able to split screens, which is really great. I use quadkonsole as my "background rescue terminal" sort of; in the foreground I usually run default konsole or mate-terminal. With F12 I fetch yakuake. Perfect! There is only one improvement I'd like to suggest and this would be the ability to easily customize things such as font size, terminal size, row/width from within yakukae itself rather than through a KDE konsole option-widget. We currently can customize a lot of things already via right-click, but I'd like some additional dialogue widget. On a side note, will yakuake become officially integrated into KDE Apps? Because I think it should. Perhaps under the KDE Konsole umbrella since the two have a lot of related functionality - and probably share or re-use a lot of code.
