But there are a couple of showstoppers for me which prevent me from switching from Gaim. I thought I would share them here hoping that, if they aren't already being worked on, this would help to fix these minor problems.

The two most common things I (and argueably others) do when on IM is to send an instant message, and to check the status/info of a buddy. Sending an IM is quick, either double click, or right click and its the first menu item. To get buddy info, however, I must right click, mouse all the way down to the bottom item, go into a submenu, and go all the way down to the 3rd to bottom item. This just seems silly.

In trying to figure out a quick way to get buddy info, I thought maybe there is a buddy info button I can add to some toolbar, but I could not find any.

I have not found a way to fix these two related issues, but I am far from an expert of kopete, so I may have missed something. Is there a way to fix these?

Try right-clicking not on the contact/buddy name, but on one of the protocol icons to the right. You should get a context menu with "User Info" right away.

A bit better, but IMO this is a bit obscure, and the user info item is still the 3rd to last in the menu (but at least its not within a submenu). I hope this doesn't pass as being bitchy, just trying to voice my opinion on usability.

By any chance is there a way to ignore users color choices so it all formats as black? I don't necessarily grasp the way kopete works (I've migrated from gnome2 and openbox) -- So I've primarily been in a gtk enviroment... is it under the chat tab? And if so: How does one edit that to make it ignore colors?

Hi

I have recently installed KDE3.2 (Kopete 8) and MDK9.1 and want to chat to a person on another box with MDK9.1 and KDE3.1.4 with Kopete 7.3.

According to Kopete the other person person is offline even though I know the the person is available.

When you use the Yahoo Web Messenger from the other box, then it works.

Could it be the different versions of Kopete or am I making a stupid mistake somewhere?

Could it be Yahoo?

Any suggestions?

his kopete version is too old. He should upgrade to Kopete 0.8.0 (or 0.8.1, which is in KDE 3.2, but not yet released as a seperate package for KDE 3.1 users)

Hello there,
I've been using Kopete for a couple of month and everything worked just fine. But since I upgraded to KDE 3.2 about a week ago, Kopete doesn't show my friends' online status (in fact, it _always_ says offline). But that's incorrect, since some people start chats while Kopete still marks them offline. Only one person's status is dislpayed correctly: the only who uses Kopete as well!
I'm using SuSE 8.2 with KDE 3.2 from SuSE RPMs.

I assume you use the NOL protocol (also known as "never online protocol"). That's the great feature of NOL, nobody is every online to annoy you ;)

SCNR as people always forget to post one important thing:

Which protocol does that happen with ?

Hi Guys

I love kopete but for some reason the fonts that show up on my message window are not the same as the rest of the kde. The font that's showing is comic sans. For the life of me, I cannot figure out where to change this. It is nowhere in KDE.

Please help me out !! Thanks !!

Can someone explain how I can change the size of the MSN Display Picture in Kopete 0.8 RC2? It's about 1x1cm, a little too small when I don't wear my contact lenses.. ;)

There's a tooltip containing the fullsize image. It's also planned to show the image in place of the nickname in chatview.

Is there a way to send messages without having to do ctrl+enter? I find this highly annoying. It really gets to me after awhile. Kopete is a great client and it really does do everything I want from an IM client, but until I can just hit enter to send a message, I have to keep using Gaim. :\

Will it be in 3.2?

The problem with MSN protocol lasted only a few days, they changed it slightly wich caused Kopete to write an illegal value to it's configuration file upon exit. When you restarted the client it failed to start the MSN protocol. I solved this in 10 minutes with sed and shell-script, and a few days later a version wich fixes this problem was released. I have not had any problem with MSN since (I run v0.7.4)

yes, MSN should work (in both 0.7.4 and the 0.8 Betas). Kopete will also be included in KDE 3.2.
