What is the point of having a full (proprietary) and an open source version? What is your program doing that the hundreds of other youtube downloaders don't? There is even a script written in Python, can be cross platform if there is a Python interpriter installed, yea the one I'm talking about does not have a GUI but it does its job and even converts the video to .mp4 format.

From the enclosed PDF:
"Trying to read or use the source of the Software is not allowed as well."
That's not very KDE-esque.

Also I should note to anybody downloading that the software is written in Java.

Well, that's fair enough. And there's no such thing as 'KDEish' =) This software is free. It's not opensource, but that's the right of the author. And one should be glad to have that kind of app for free.
BTW, is it croosplatform? If it's written in Java.. Could i launch it on Windows XP?

"And one should be glad to have that kind of app for free."

Shameless self-promoting:
Everyone who uses Konqueror already has a better alternative (more easy to use and it can download the hq version of the videos in mp4): http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Get+YouTube+Video+%28improved%29?content=41456

And this python script is GPL. ;)

PS: For firefox there are various open source addons, too. E.g. there is this bookmarklet:
javascript:if%20(document.getElementById('download-youtube-video')==null%20&&%20!!(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)))%20{var%20yt_mp4_path='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t'];%20var%20div_embed=document.getElementById('watch-embed-div');div_embed.innerHTML=div_embed.innerHTML+'<br%20/>%20<span%20id=\'download-youtube-video\'><a%20href=\''+yt_mp4_path+'\'>Download%20as%20MP4</a>%20'+%20%20((navigator.userAgent.indexOf('Safari')!=-1)?'(control-click%20and%20select%20<i>Download%20linked%20file%20as</i>)':('(right-click%20and%20select%20<i>Save%20'+%20(navigator.appName=='Microsoft%20Internet%20Explorer'?'target':'link')%20+'%20as)</i>'))+'</span>';}void(0);

It might work with konqueror, too. I haven't tested that.

Wel, you see, ff addons are another type of software. They are part of ff (or konqi, if you're lucky enough ;) ) and should be held in the RAM with the browser even if you don't need them. And this app is a standalone one. It's crossplatform one (not checked that yet) and - hey! - it contains two versions of that program - opensource one, and full one. Though opensource version is not licensed under GPL.
Well, it's his freedom to choose the license for his products, and it's our freedom to chose products that fit our needs most.

Of course it's his freedom of choice. It was just shameless self-promotion. :P
And I think both, the firefox bookmarklet and my konqueror service menu, are more handy to use. And "the plugin is kept into RAM" is not a good reason against such plugins. The bookmarklet is a single line of code! And my script is not kept into ram. Its just a small python script which gets called every time you download a video. Even if you would use a bigger plugin I doubt this would have as much as an impact as a running Java VM. Don't get me wrong, I like Java. But it does use a lot of memory and it does have a big startup time. When it is up and running it is fast (JIT!).

PS: You can use my script as a standalone app, too:
get_yt_video.py $URL1 $URL2 ...
or
get_yt_video.py --format=mp4 $URL1 $URL2 ...
