Sick and tired of traditional, crappy lyrics search tools? Sick of having to go to google yourself to hunt down lyrics? GoogLyrics is for you! I've been annoyed by the low yield on some of my more obscure music with many of the Amarok lyric search scripts available. A long time ago, I'd seen a rather impressive windows program called EvilLyrics, they had an interesting idea, search for the lyrics then rip them off known websites, using this it managed to have a very high success rate at lyric extraction. I decided to implement this myself in an amarok script. After a quick day of scripting, here's the result: a true lyrics metasearch script. Now a month later, this script is constantly getting more advanced. It now supports many different popular lyrics sites and has an extremely high success rate on even my more obscure music.

If you're using Ubuntu or debian, this is as simple as download+install the package below. For any other distro, read on.

This script requires the WWW::Mechanize perl module to run,
to install it on any distro:
# cpan
cpan> install WWW::Mechanize
Done.

Text::Iconv is also required for this, however, this is already included in most perl packages. if not, follow the cpan instructions replacing WWW::Mechanize with Text::Iconv

Logo credits go to puffaliaz, who I'm yet to have a website from... when he makes one I'll post it.

Files have been moved to rapidshare.com direct links. Hope it works :)

Hi,
should your script still work on Amarok 1.4.10 (I'm using it on kde4)? I seem to have done all the right things, installed iconv and mechanize, but still can't get any lyrics. The script starts, doesn't give any sign of problems, but does not find any lyrics on the net(sure I tried with really common songs). I tried to configure it, but Amarok says there's nothing to configure.

Sorry I can't be more specific...

In case this version does not support amarok 1.4 anymore, would you be so kind to link me to the last working version? I used to love this script!

Bye & thx

Er, I'm a bit new to using these apps, but how do you use googlyrics?

I selected the googlyrics download inside of Amarok with the script manager interface, but I don't see an entry for it. If I try to install it again, I get a message saying "A script with the name 'googlyrics' is already installed. Please uninstall it first"

Am I supposed to run it from the script console?

Thanks

I just discovered you awesome application and I would like to use it in one of my projects. Is there any way that I can acces the app using the shell, like passing the artist and trackname as program parameters and receiving the result songtext via the standard output?

Looks like it got problems with charcode.
When it downloads russian lyrics, text there looks like UTF8 encoded in CP1251 (while my system locale is UTF8)...

A new python rewrite is coming soon everyone, so don't think this project is abandoned quite yet. It'll feature major improvements, I just gotta port all the plugins over and then it'll be ready for release!

First of all: Thanks for this great script!

I found two issues:
- The regex for justsomelyrics.com needs to be changed to get it working again:

regex => qr/
(.*?)<div/msi,

- Song and artist names use wrong (?) character encoding.
Special characters (e.g. German äöüß) are substituted by "?" (might be a unicode thing)
However: In this cases the Script finds songtexts without any problems and the songtext itself displays correctly. So I think there is a problem when song/artist are returned to amarok. Do you have any idea how to set/change encoding for these variables?

Thanks for the script, seems to work really fine. I have only one problem when the lyrics are downloaded from some sites like metrolyrics: if I try to modify the lyrics (sometimes there is some error...) they appear like this part:

This is due to metrolyrics trying to protect from scripts like googlyrics. I might put a parser on there next version.

I'm behind a proxy and googlyrics fails to connect to google, the proxy is configured correctly and I can search in google with konqueror.

the network where I am blocks all direct connections so there's no other way than through the proxy

hi,
i love your lyrics plugin. It is nice and fast but sometimes it displays the lyrics as the track and the artist but no lyrics. I get this problem with the lyrics for 'low' from 'Flo-Rida feat. T-pain' It says "Powered by Googlyrics (http://udmp.info/content/view/13/29/)" when I open in external browser it works and all but I can't see it in Amarok. It takes the lyrics from Justsomelyrics.com. could you help me? thanks a lot.

Thank you for your script, it find a lot more lyrics than others I have tried.
I was wondering if it is possible to include http://www.darklyrics.com/ into the script? I don't have any programming skills yet :P but I know that that particular site has a lot of metal lyrics of songs I listen too.
And I would love to have them in amarok next to the playlist instead of hunting them down myself everytime..
thanks!!

ok nvm about building it in.. I just found that it already is in there...
but it rarely uses that site..

is there a particular order in which the sites are scanned? because for a lot of songs it takes 30sec to find lyrics to it.. if possible I would like to move darklyrics a bit up the chain?
is that possible? how do I do it?

thanks!

Sorry, no dark lyrics support at all due to the way the lyrics are stored as whole albums per page. I really want to do a major rewrite but I don't have the time or don't feel like it.

Thanks for so good script.
But it has a little problem with russian lyrics, found on justsomelyrics.com. Script displays only artist's name, title of the song and 'Powered by JUST SOME LYRICS (justsomelyrics.com)'. In external browser lyrics are displayed correct. Could you fix it please?
Thanks :)

I fixed it. I just had to change a line in the code:

the part of justsomelyrics should now look like:

my %justsomelyrics = (
site => "justsomelyrics.com",
name => "JUST SOME LYRICS",
regex => qr/
(.*?)
/msi,
disabled => 0,
plain => 0,
);

hej, this is a great script! Finds almost everything for me. Just from a German band called "Die Ärzte" it doesn't show the lyrics, it finds em tough (Shows the right song and artist name, just the text is missing.) When I go on the websites and search manually, I see them.

One small thing you might want to fix: The "about" dialog of version 0.2.2 claims that it's version 0.2.1 and the changelog ends with 0.2.1.

Yes, it is true: in the About window appear that the current version is 0.2.1 :)

Could you add this lines for support of www.versuri.ro, the biggest romanian lyrics database?

my %versuri = (
site => "versuri.ro",
name => "Versuri.ro",
regex => qr/Download in format text

(.*?)
/msi,
disabled => 0,
plain => 0,
