!!!Important update!!

I've always thought we're all here open-minded and kind people. Seems like I was wrong.

Today I've received a letter from a man called Yassen Pavlov smack@vip.bg with the following text:

"I just wanted to let you know that I can't believe what an bitch you are. You asked for the guy who was maintaining the project you abandoned to give you admin rights and you never showed up again since he did so. Not even once... Thank you very much for that. I hope you'll die from cancer."

Well thanks a lot Yassen, this is what I actually need right now being a young mom with a little kid on my hands. See now, I'm here, are you happy?

OK, now to the point. I've switched to MacOS completely and have no platform to develop and test this script. It was a good experience and it was fun. I actually did not ever expected it would be such a success. But now I have to pass it over to somebody who wants to continue this development.
Please contact me jinjiru at jinjiru dot com if you want to take this project to your hands.

Mount ISO Image is an advanced script which allows to perform multiple operations with ISO, NRG (Nero Burning ROM), UDF (DVD), CUE/BIN, CCD/IMG/SUB (CloneCD), XDVDFS (XBOX) and MDF images.
Mount/unmount operations can be performed in two different ways: using kdesu or sudo. During the installation you'll be offered to choose a variant to use.
Note: If you prefer to use sudo, you should first choose to "Setup sudo config" in installation menu.

I really need your help with translations and feature requests - please send them pejakm at gmail dot com. If you sent any translations or suggestions some time ago - please resend them!
If you find any errors please do not hesitate to report them. If you have any suggestions or want to contribute in any manner - you're always welcome!

Important Notice!!!

Since this project appears to be abandoned, administrators have gave moderation control over this project to me, pejakm. I intend to continue and to improve this script as good as I can. If the original authors decide to continue their work I will happily give them this back.

maybe you can integrate some features, or the whole script, with Kiso??? that tool is made for making iso's, so duplicating efforts here seems useless to me...

http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=10176

maybe the autor wants to add the script to kiso - and then adding the config of the script to kiso whould make a nice addition to that app: actually you whould have one app with iso-mount integration in KDE.

its just a suggestion, you'r script is related to kiso, so maybe it whould be nice to integrate them both.

anyway, thanks for all the work!!!

Linux and KDE is one step better than the perfect desktop. Thanks

What about a way to create ISOs through the menu when right clicking on folders.

Well, if you download 0.5beta1 version, you could see the experimental support of this feature. We will try to improve it.

Thank you for your compliment :)

This is great. I have tried 2 of the previous versions, and got various errors. Now it is perfect. Let's hope it's included in KDE by default soon. It's touches like this that make KDE a great desktop to use - keep it up!

Thank you very much for your kind words! Your support - is our motivation, and the feeling of usefulness is what makes us implement new features and release next versions!

And another great source of inspirations is the 'wishlist' compiled from the ideas of our users. So if you have something in mind that you think would make this project even better, don't hesitate to tell us using either the comments here or by sending e-mails (you can find them in our profiles).

Would it be possible to use an ISO image contain via a KIOSlave ?

Creating a KIO-slave is a big deal - not that we're not going to make it some day, but it's not going to happen tomorrow :) Stay tuned, look for updates of this project - quite soon you may see something absolutely different :)

A very useful menu , but why not extend it also for .nrg images ?

This images are very common , and too much people (in particular newbie) that uses linux dont'know how to treat.

mount -t iso9660 -o loop,offset=307200 image.nrg mount_point/

What do you think ?

Using a farily standard install of Mandrake 10.0. The last version (0.3) managed to mount the iso image, but couldn't find the un-mount program. This version (0.3.9) creates the desktop folder, but there is nothing in it, so when I try to unmount, it says nothing is mounted...

Report

1) Are you using sudo or kdesu version?
2) What output gives you the 'mount' program? Does it include your iso or not? Perhaps it was mounted somewhere else...

Report

adpsimpson

I've tried both install versions (what's the difference??), and the results are the same. The image is not mounted elsewhere, as I say it seems like it thinks it's managed. Since I used the menus by right clicking in Konqueror, I don't see the output itself.

When trying to unmount the image by the desktop folder, the following error pops up:

ERROR: Folder "/home/andrew/Desktop/Mount-ISO (StarOffice_Power_Publisher.iso)" exists but ISO is not mounted!

What is the reason why this could not be done by a user?

A user could already have an own mount
command in the $USER/bin dir.
Is there a replacement for loop available which does not need the system restrictions?

Report

the ability of mounting is not dependend on the owner of the mount binary.
mount has to do entries in system file (mainly mtab) and acquire the device - to prevent opening the system, mount checks to be called root by root if it cannot use a fstab entry. (actually mount has the suid bit set)

However ;-) this actually _can_ be done without root permissions or sudo... (you only need to be root for the installation process, and you're pre resticted to an unlimited (or only limited by the amount of loop devices) number of iso mounts at once)
