... forgot to mention that the name of that specific background is "mach-2".

Hi again.
Thanks for quick answer. In my version from Community repository in "background" option there aren't "mach-2". I don't know why.
I have Daisy-dock 0.0.4.21-1.1 too.
Greetings

If a previous version of Daisy was installed, the Plasma desktop needs to be restarted. This can be done by typing in a terminal "kquitapp plasma-desktop" and after that "plasma-desktop". Or by simply logging out and logging back in. Otherwise Daisy will not update. You might also want to run "kbuildsycoca4". Check if you have done this.

Regards.

Daisy corolla 0.0.4.21

Kubuntu 9.04 / KDE 4.2
Kubuntu 9.10 RC / KDE 4.3

The plasma desktop is crashing when removing the Daisy from the desktop.

There is a crash report with the information:

Application: Plasma Workspace (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault

Whole crash report: http://pastebin.ca/1643819

I'm running Kubuntu, and Daisy runs without a problem.
What method have you used to install Daisy? Was it compiled from source or did you used a binary package?
Looking at the crash report it looks as it could be related with the taskmanager library.

From the source to the .deb

The Daisy was working fine. The crash did happen when i did remove the Daisy from the desktop.

The crashing stopped when i changed the Desktop theme from the Neon Glow to the Air and back to the Neon.

Very strange.

Very weird... Maybe that specific theme didn't like our applet, eh?
Glad it's working now. :)

Although Daisy can be successfully added to panel, it takes too much space and therefore after appropriate panel resizing other elements are too big.

Report

C

Lechio

Hi

The minimum size for Daisy when added to panel is now of 8 pixels. I believe this should be enough.
Daisy isn't really meant to be added to the panel and it looses a lot of features when doing this. In fact, that option is there only for compatibility. Daisy is designed to be added to the desktop and it will behave like a panel when in linear dock role.

Regards.

Just compiled a new version and added it to panel. Can't see any regression in functionality when doing this, except that few times dock jumped off the panel. Icons are a bit smaller than other panel's elements but that's ok.

I only wish to have tooltips with application previews in them like those available in Smooth tasks.

Glad to see this project is still being developed. Thanks!

Report

C

OK, if you really want to, you can add Daisy to the panel. But it's not recommended.

That option for tooltips is going to be added in KDE 4.4, re-implementing it in Daisy and using custom widgets for tooltips, like it is done in STasks, would not be very correct.

It is being actively developed and will continue to be, with the help of everyone who wishes to contribute. :)

Hi, I've installed your applet on my 64bit slackware and it works just fine... thanks for sharing it with us...

I'm using the circular version and I was thinking about the possibility to add some keyboard shortcuts to make it more easy to switch between the normal dock and the player setup... Do you think it would be possible??

Doing so it should be relatively easy to add some shortcut that let's you open another instance of the same application using the left mouse +, let's say, Ctrl or some other key...

The last thing I wanted to ask you is how can I make some new backgrounds for the applet (both circular and linear)...

Maybe I'm asking too many things, however I hope I gave you some ideas...

I've made a package for slackware 13.0 and made it available on the slacky.eu repository, it will be online as soon as it passes validation by the staff...

Thanks again for your great work... I can't wait to see some new version of this nice applet...

Hi there.

Adding a keyboard shortcut for that task should be possible. Will look into it.

Middle mouse button click will now do this. Open the Daisy configuration window>Launchers>Advanced tab and configure this behavior there.

A new background (mach-2) for linear dock role was now added. Daisy can use its own backgrounds or use the Plasma theming system (it's compatible with Plasma panel backgrounds). I shall include more themes for Daisy and maybe replace others. But it would be nice to see Daisy being themed by Plasma themes as it would look more integrated in a Plasma desktop. This task is up to the Plasma themers.

Thank you for your work, if you can contact me with details of the package you've made or if you can update it to version 0.0.4.21 I would gladly include your work in the download page.

Regards, and thanks again for taking the time to comment and contribute.

Hi,
I've updated daisy, and I've a few more things to ask you.
Using it I've noticed that isn't possible to remove the trash while in circular mode, or to use more or less than 9 icons, is this a necessary behavior or could be called a bug??

I also wanted to ask you if you could make it possible to remember all the setup even when the applet is removed from the desktop, I think it would be more easy to store the user's settings in a hidden directory under the user's home, so that when upgrading daisy every setup isn't lost...

Thanks... ;)

Hi there,

It's not really a bug, it's something that isn't implemented yet. Currently it's not possible to remove the trash plugin when using circular dock or have more/less than 9 icons displaying. It's something that will be worked on and changed for next releases.

It's possible, but I'm not sure if that would be the correct to do in Plasma. When removing a Plasma desktop widget its configuration resets, that's the way it works in Plasma.

I forgot to mention that when using daisy in linear mode, if I remove a launcher daisy refreshes itself, but doesn't set in the middle of the bottom edge of the screen. I don't know if I've been clear enough...

Let's say I setup daisy to stay in the middle of the bottom edge of the screen. Daisy has now 10 launchers and no icons in the task manager, so it has the width of the 10 launchers and sits in the middle of the screen. If I remove a launcher, daisy stays slightly on the left of the screen, because that is the position that it used to have before the launcher deletion...

I hope I've been clearer now...

That happens when that Plasma desktop widgets are locked, correct?
There's no way to bypass that in Plasma, we pass the move instruction but it gets ignored if the widgets are locked.

This is really a good applet, but in my opinion you' ve taken the wrong approach. you had to make a containment rather than an applet, so this could embed other applets inside it, like simply kickoff, that now you work-arounded with dolphin and applications:/, or stask instead of developing a new task manager plugin

Report

giucam

p.s. i'm talking about the linear dock mode.

Report

C

Lechio

That's true. Daisy should had been a real container from the start. But I've had some issue with that approach, when adding plugins to the dock.
It's true that it would be nice to be able to add an applet like STasks, but I believe that a task manager is an important part of a dock, for that reason this has to be included in Daisy.
I'll keep developing it the way it is now, but it might undergo a redefinition and a complete re-write. I'll have to peek in your Containment, if that's OK with you. ;)

Regards, and thank you for the comment.
Nice work on Device Manager by the way.
