This program locks my whole system dead and forces me to hard reset when I load it. Probably the first program that has done this for years.

I dont meant to be having a go at it. Amarok looks very powerful and promising program, but just a word of caution for others who might wanna play with it. - Oct 22 2004

I just personally believe that integrated modular frontends like konqueror are the most efficient form of the gui, and while another app like krusader may well do these things, it sort of defeats the purpose as I dont want to load it just for this. With konq's tabs and split views one single window can accomplish more than any other app on my desktop. - Aug 15 2004

I agree this has alot of potential.

I think that also it would be nice if you could say click and hold down home, and have its contents pop up on the desktop in a group, or maybe pop up down the screen in a tree form (the functionality should be limited to something closer to a menu than a file manager) - Apr 25 2004

Scribble, twist with iwarp, set translucency down, repeat with another layer, do some blurred soft focus layers, overlay em using different methods such as screen, divide & soft light aswell. Thats basically the process. - Apr 25 2004

Short of buying it, you can actually download it from the alias wavefront website so long as you have a login account for the support section. Then all you need to do is 'sort' out the license. - Apr 24 2004
yea I know where your comming from.

I had some improvments in another theme I was using on my system, and some other modified cystal icons, and I just sorta threw it all in slick before I released it not realising ide done some damange (like removing the konq icon with the spider), and putting crystal folders in was something I overlooked. Anywho I suppose I better fix it up some time :) - Jul 03 2003
I better do some work on them if anyones considering putting them in 3.2 :)

Thanks for drawing those other icons to my attention, I didnt know they existed. - Jun 10 2003
I have the same problem! :\

Its a KDE 3 problem. 2 isnt effected (not with kicker anyway). I also compile from source, but I cant see what we could be doing wrong.

So far I can offer a very half assed solution, which is to run the slick install script (in the slick directory) as, ' overwrite'

NOTE: this WILL OVERWRITE most of the default hicolor theme, its not a very nice solution at all. but it fixes kicker and a number of other apps which wont theme (partially kate, kcm applets run from outside kcontrol, konqueror when embedding sometimes.)

Have fun - Apr 08 2002
Oh now I see bzip2 isnt kcontrol installable. back to gzip then. - Mar 21 2002
Ah well I messed it up nicely :)

Yes it is a bzip2 file with .gz

It was supposed to be a .gz file but in my tiredness last night I must have slipped with the switches. In future it will be bzip2 as it does knock 100k off the file size. - Mar 21 2002
When you download Slick, hold down the shift key when you click on the link. This should pop up a requester giving you the option to save the file where you want and with the correct name. - Feb 18 2002
1. Find a folder.. any folder will do..
2. Click the right mouse button on the folder.
3. Select "Edit FileType" from the menu
4. In the dialog that pops up, Click on the button with the folder icon in it.
5. Select "Filesystems" from the combo box on the right in the choose icon dialog.

here you will find the various 'folder' options - Feb 18 2002
The window style is called "VisualPrefs - Green"

It is available on this site under Windows Decorations > IceWM

if you want the titlebar centered like in the screenshot then uncomment "TitleBarCentered=1", In the default.theme file. - Feb 18 2002
The Icons installation screen is a bit dodgey. You arnt the first person it has tripped up.

To install...
1. Open the icon prefs by clicking on:
"KDE Go icon" > Preferences > Look&feel > icons

2. Click on the little folder that is directly to the left of the "Install new theme" button.
3. Select Slick_1.1.tar.gz from the file selector & press Ok.
4. Then! Click the "Install new theme" button.
5. Choose Slick from the list of icon themes.

The other thing is you shouldnt be using KDE as root.
You could easily move or delete an important system folder while browsing around, rendering your system unuseable.

Shady WWW sites also have the potential to do massive damage to your system.. Instead of just being able to murder your personal files, they could potentially murder your whole system!, and any others you might have installed.

For normal day to day linux use you should create a 'normal' user account.. This should have been done during installation. If not your redhat book will surely tell you how to do it. - Feb 18 2002
Hi, first thanks for your support :)
I liked the drawers aswell, I think they are a much better metaphor. However, I just couldnt make a decent 16x16 drawer, they looked terrible.

The other reason is it wasnt very easy to place images on top of them, (for the content themed drawers), there just wasnt enough room to work with.

The drawers (and the original folders aswell) are still included in the theme though, Theres alot of choice for the 'folder' in this theme.
By selecting "Edit Filetype" from the context menu you can choose from about 4 different 'folder' styles. :) - Feb 16 2002
Well your obviously 10 years old, that explains everything. As I said, take it somewhere else, im not going to have an abuse slinging match with you.

p.s Your pretty graphically illiterate. This isnt modelled off XP. its complete shit and I havent ever used it, or seen more than a glimpse of it. - Jan 18 2002
Get the fuck off this board you small minded idiot.

An icon set is an icon set, use it or not, but dont winge like a little girl because you like another one better, iKons is great, this is a theme site, none of this stuff has to conform to anything, and i'll call it what I fucking like, got that?

Man why the fuck would you do anything for anyone with assholes like you around.

and btw "Stupid strict fascist style" is pretty damn stupid, remember what your talking about here.. Icons.

Even if you get your KDE from packages you can still use this patch with minimal compiling. Just download the kdebase file corresponding to your KDE, configure --prefix=/usr it (or wherever KDE is on your distro), cd kwin, patch and make/make install it only. - Jun 10 2003
Same here. All shadows are inverted. That is 0 transparency is max and max is 0. This problem didnt exist in 0.5 which is the last one I used.

Wtf are you talking about?
Firstly, It is part of many KDE using distros as I was contacted by the KDE team and asked if it could be added.

If you still think its unoriginal then perhaps I can show you elements of the ~50mb .xcf original of this image. aswell as a dozen other incarnations that came before the final.

So before you start rubbishing someone for "taking credit for artwork" just because you saw it somewhere else, why dont you check if my name was on it there before you start spreading bullshit. Get a clue - Dec 10 2002
yes only the GIMP.

The lights are the easy part and didnt take that long at all. I did them by making a big yellow sqaure for one building face, and then cut it into a grid using the straight line/erase tool. This is done on its own layer, so then the color can be altered using mainly the gradient tool, then to make them glow, a rough yellow 50% translucency blob with the air brush over every square.

Its all too easy to propose a plan and get support for it. But who is actually going to write it? I havent heard a single post on this thread of someone actually offering to contribute directly to this 'project'.

The X developers, especially Keith Packard know what you all want. KDE developers know what you want. And steps have been taken (Xrender) to create this. However 'eye candy' as much as I like it, is superficial, trivial and imho should be low priority considering some of the far more important work that needs to be done.

I think that you shouldnt try and annoy the developers with a lobby/petition. It would just put more pressure on them and they do such an awesome job now. Also both projects already have bug/wishlists as long as the bible.

Whatever the final solution is, I think Gnome and KDE should work together on this common need. Its important to avoid duplication of work/effort, which im sure will be considerable, and far more than some of you think. - Jul 03 2002

I just love the way people think they can give orders to the authors of themes on this site. These people usually never actually contributed anything themselves.

Theres definantly two types of people. The do'ers, and wingers that like to tell others what to do. - Feb 09 2002
