Nice work!
I had to hack the configure script to bypass the compiler check...

I use Fedora Core 4 and the GCC4.0 is patched by Redhat and seems to work well...

Cute, Simple and the fact that there are no icons makes it more simple and ...original ?

I think it is fitting the simplicity of the splash. I wonder if there were icons, that will break the style...

Got it too :-)

On the source subdirs there are style and style/config subdir:

In the style dir do:
moc -o lipstik.moc lipstik.h
And then inthe styel/config subdir do
moc -o lipstikconf.moc lipstikconf.h

return in the root sourcedir ( where ./configure is located )

redo make && make install ( normally as root if you install as system wide )

good luck,

P.S.: I really dunno why "moc" isn't invoked on those files...

First thank you for your hints on patching ...

2- there is also a patch file:

that certainly needs the kdelibs sources, so I am really not confortable to spend a whole day compiling kdelibs...

I have applied your patch and recompiled kwin.
compile and install went without incidents. But after restarting kde I can't see nothing different, no shadow, nor any places to enable it ... I am looking silly I know. I don't know what to do ... It has something to do with your kdelibs patch ??? ( please tell me it is not necessary :-( ) ? I am really dying to have this shadow dropsfx. And again about the windeco on your scrnshot ? how can I get it ?

Chears, thank you again ,

At least, thank you for the shots...I am dying to have drop shadows on my desktop . I have no time to figure out how to patch/compile/error/patch_again/compile_again ...etc... .

Hi Seawolf,

Thank you for your advice, and for your positive comments ;-)

Hi Seawolf,

I am so much used to put --prefix=/usr.. I've just forgot to mention it in my message. I am glad to know it's ok now ;=-).

I don't expect any good comments about the new Splashman. I did it only to reduce project size ( num of classes and source files ) and to have an idea on what it should looks as a KControl module.

By the way, here is a good news:
One very kind programer took a look to my module source code and Makefiles and managed to execute it as a KControl module. (Yeah!) I am still waiting for the details he wants to give to me... But I also want to wait until KDE3.1 release ( mid January ) before getting into Splashman module.

Thank again Seawolf,
- Dec 21 2002

According to the errors, I can't see the path to the KDE include files... So it is obvious that all KDE classes will fail to compile in Splashman..

If you can tell me more about KDE3.1rc5, like if you've installed from the sources....

I am wondering why the configure script did not failed at the KDE test...

Waiting for more about your ENV,

As I said I use Mandrake 9.0.

I've installed KDE3.1RC2 and QT3.1beta2.

Excepted my sources projects, I don't have any sensitive data nor programs. So I didn't care of screwing my system. However, it seems to work (KDE3.1) even faster than KDE3.0.x. I don't want to go back to KDE3.0.4/5 ;-)

As of now that QT3.1 is released, it should be more secure to upgrade now.

KDE3.1 is very near...

Hi Seawolf! very pleased to "hear" your again ;-)

Yes, unfortunately I use a new feature of KArchive class implemented only from version KDE3.1. "copyTo" which make easy to extract archive subdir content.

Sorry ;-)

Hi there,

I am working very hard to successfully create a splashman module for kcontrol...

I've just subscribed to kde-devel mailing list to get help on my missing kde skills...

Thanks for your positive comments;-)

Sorry, for the incomplete text,
please read:
#include : "karchive.h" between the empty and hidden html tags!! sorry my mistake

- Nov 25 2002
To all who DO use KDE3.1 and QT3.1:

I just can't say why KArchiveDirectory::copyTo(...) 'const'
isn't matched, I read the and it contains the right method prototype...

This happened to one other user ( Henrik )
on SuSE 8.1 with KDE3.1rc1

Notice my system is Mandrake 9.0, KDE3.1rc2, QT3.1beta2

No compilation problem tho...

I am sorry that it fails for a reason I really don't know ;-(

It can't be a missplaced
#include ...
However, you may add
#include into carchivehelper.cpp as well and see if it fixes the error ...

The variable mTheme IS declared 'const' so it shouldn't go into compilation troubles....

I can't say more about that error sorry ;-(

I need to know if someone got this app and compiled successfully ?

- Nov 25 2002
... The bug is only a wrong parameter, actually this:
-- PutImages(DB.currentItem);
-- PutImages(DB.First());

Thus, The text in the drop list is the first theme, and the images are from the last theme which is actually the current theme (cursor) from the DB object.

CU Bretzel
- Aug 22 2002

Yeah! Thank you very much for your help Seawolf!
I was a bit "scarelly" waiting for results from other systems.

You have been very helpfull to make the program stable.

Hi there, I have found the way to avoid unsing $KDEHOME env variable... I have just put more control and tests to the initialisation process. Expect version 0.8 to start gracefully on first-time - with no more bug erratic locations -

Version 0.8 might be ready in couple of hours today ;-)

- Aug 20 2002
The program crashes because there is no pictures in freshly created [..]/ksplash/pics directory.

To prevent the program to SEGFAULT, just get a splash-theme package, then install it, then press the install button. after that KPslashman will not crash for that reason any more. I realized this bug only today while I was testing the next release ( version 0.8, with new improved auto-detect at first-time run)... If you have other questions, do not hesitate to ask
- Aug 20 2002
Thank you SeaWolf! I will correct the previous bug then the program will be close to release.

- Aug 18 2002
i don't know if it is because I am lazy or stupid but I totally forgot to apply the rule also to the splashman_db location when KDEHOME is empty...

That means there will be a version 0.71.
I dunno when it will be ready 'ause I have just finished to install Mdk 9.0 beta3!!! I think my cd burner is a bit tired...I had ful of bad packages...
- Aug 18 2002
Thanx, I will add it.
- Aug 18 2002
Hi, I thank you for your report.

1 - Your old splashman data:
- I have to apologize to have changed the base directory...
- All you have to do now is to
cd /home/[you]/.kde[3]/share/apps/splashman_db
cp -R ~/.splashman/* .

2 - Regarding the icons, I've just finished to verify that you're right! Thus I am going to correct it and then make an other release...I think today...

Thanks again

- Aug 17 2002
Hi, I agree that the program forget to test for NULL value for KDEHOME. But in all KDE environments , $KDEHOME must be set otherwise thing like "/share" happens.

I have to thank you because I cannot test and experiment all possible bugs by myself. I have only ONE machine at home for all my stuff. So guys like you help me greatly to explore the different situations. ;-)
Thanks again

He there,

I am pleased to read about KSplashManager.

I thought it was no use since KDE3.1 because of a new KControl module managing splash screen themes, but I've noticed that it does handle only themes pack with the now common "theme.index" file embeded in the archive theme. So I see that KSplashManager which is not (yet ?) a KControl module is still required to handle generic splash-screen :-) ;-)

So thank you "djworld" for your ref to KSplashManager

However, I've noticed that you name your tar archive with ".tar.gz" but the "gz" shouldn't be there because you're actually not compressing the archive at all. Thus this make my Splashman program to fail its installation. ;-)

Are you willing to (re-)name your archives the correct way ( as ".tar" instead of "tar.gz") if they aren't compressed ?

(hint:" tar zcvf yourpacakge.tar.gz")

...And on second thought you made me thinking about a better way to handle scplash-screens archives through Splashman program ;-)

Nice work again!
