I think it's weird that the windeco hasn't gotten it's own entry here at! Also, I had a hard time finding and downloading the windeco, and when I did, it didn't look ANYTHING like the screenshot :/

Help! - Mar 01 2006

yes, I said so earlier, that usbethern works.. I just though it was a bug. Should be better integrated somehow, so it knows whats available. - Nov 29 2005
seems that knemo reads the interface names from the textual output of ifconfig which doesn't work very well if you rename the ifnames to have consistent names based on mac-addresses and not based on when it's detected (eth0 the first eth1 the second and so on)

I rename my usb ethernet adapter from whatever it's called to usbethernet0, but the name get's cut off by ifconfig, and usbethernet0 doesn't work in knemo, but the cut of name usbethern works... but as you can see ifconfig doesn't recognize usbehtern

both gentoo and suse uses this:

lapwakko ~ # ifconfig usbethernet0
usbethern Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:60:0A:4A:FB
inet addr: Bcast: Mask:
RX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:45 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:1866 (1.8 Kb) TX bytes:5839 (5.7 Kb)

lapwakko ~ # ifconfig usbethern
usbethern: error fetching interface information: Device not found - Nov 27 2005

that should really include wpa_supplicant integration instead (or is it perhaps wpa_cli ?) since it really rocks... If you haven't tried it yo ureally should. ;) - Nov 01 2005
I have a few suggestions:

- you should make it integrate with kde's sudo and have an option for remember password.

- you could make an systray icon (have you ever seen apple's airport? its great)

- you should make it integrate with wpa_supplicant or even better wpa_supplicants libs if any. wpa supplicant allready works with wep and different wpas and such, it also runs as a deamon and supports priority and stuff

just a few ideas! ;)

fantastic work - Oct 13 2005
sudo doesn't work for me, says:

wakko@lapwakko ~ $ sudo wlassistant
wlassistant: cannot connect to X server

if I drop the sudo it works, but it's limited because of the user. suing and then running as root works. I think you should use the kdesu thing that most kde-apps that need root-access use. You can even remeber that it has root access and it will just start the next time I think, I know systray apps do that (And the should REALLY be a systray app)

btw: FANTASTIC APP :D - Aug 31 2005
I didn't like the pinging of, It's not a very good way to check for a network connection, if dhcp is given that should suffice. We have a network on campus which when you connect to it you only get dhcp, and you when you first open ANY website, you get to an authentication page, and THEN you get access to google. Pinging to check if the network is connected is redundant and unneccesary. If you get dhcp, you are authed correctly :) - Aug 31 2005
I had a problem with WEP, turns out the AP i connected to had WEP set up with ASCII, so the password "abcde" was actually "6162636465". I had to use password "6162636465" for it to work, but in windows abcde works just fine. Seems like windows detects that the password should be ASCII and then translates it? I spent a few days working on it, only when I checked the AP (which I didnt set up, I figured it out). - Aug 31 2005
hmm, the unencrypted net now works, updated to newest (didn't see it ! :()

I don't like the one-click connect thing though, I would like to select the row and then push a connect button or something. - Aug 04 2005
also, pushing rescan alot makes it crash ;) - Aug 04 2005
wlassistant show an unencrypted net here with a padlock... I though it had encryption untill I saw it in kismet. also there should be an option to select no-encryption ;) I like the gui bigtime, pretty and functional! Only need WPA now and its perf-ect! - Aug 04 2005
oh, that's too bad, because it's a killer app! It only needs WPA and maybe a systray icon and it would be max usable for me. Please someone help him make WPA support ;)

Anyway, keep up the good work! - Jul 29 2005
does wlassistant support wpa-psk yet? that would be fantastic! ;) - Jul 29 2005

well, that's kinda brute force to enable kompmgr, it's better to implement the level of compositing in the deco, so you can do deco-independent stuff, like transforms on it, and perhaps gradient transparency and stuff, and non-transparent buttons, you get the picture.

But back to my original question, couldn't you add composite support, like have both, use composite if available. would be great! composite is soon non-experimental in xorg, and then ati will make support. - Oct 19 2005
how about an option? - Oct 14 2005
how about making crystal-gl draw from composite instead of a bitmap?

that should be great! - Oct 10 2005
same problem here, kcontrol just crashes - Oct 01 2005

also vote on this one (rubberband):

and a great feature for improving usability: - Oct 19 2005
how does the performance of the rubberband compare to the performance of the band in gnome. the gnome one had no performanceproblems at all for me, using fglrx driver though...

If it's slower, looking into how the gnome one works could perhaps optimize it a little. - Oct 11 2005
would it be possible to make a binary patch for this? or is it too much? - Dec 01 2004
and how about making the tiny corners in plastik aliased too :) when we're in to aliasing I mean.

if you use two-fingers on the pad it is in scrollmode, and you can scroll left and right and a combination. see? very clever function - Oct 19 2005
would be great if this could be added to kde cvs, since it's a very important app that needs to be in kde! Also it just needs a few maintenence updates, tapping stopped working for me earlier, so I had to uninstall it. Have you filed a bug for it not being in kde? also it should definantly be in gentoo! Have you tried to file a bug for maintainer there? - Oct 19 2005
is this project dead? if not it badly needs an update. stuff like tapping just stopped working for me here earlier, all tapping became middle mouse :/ so I had to remove it. It would also be great to implement apple type, two-finger scrolling and stuff, because it was a great app!! - Oct 13 2005
is it in kde-cvs yet? - Sep 18 2005

Seems like Xcomposite really doesn't "use" the compositing manager like Expose in OsX does. Seems like it just uses composite to take a screenshot from composite, instead of using a scaled version of straigt from the composite.... that would seem to be a more correct way? Also if one implemented composite correctly one would get cool stuff for free like live video, transparancy and shadows (?), and even at no or little performance loss? - Sep 06 2005
