I have a CVS HEAD copy of KDE installed, along with libart_lgpl, but the icons don't seem to work. Is there anything special I have to do to get it to work (like configure kdelibs with special flags?)

Sorry for the bad screenshot, but it really doesn't do too much yet (no jumping). I'm working on getting the core functionality working (drag-n-drop, configurability) before putting in the eye candy.

It will eventually support jumping icons (KSplash/ML does, why shouldn't this? :)), and will support icon "zooming" on mouseover, but this code is not robust enough to deal with that yet. It will be in the future.

I will be posting updates as I progress on the development of this project.

go ahead and add #include (lessthan)qcursor.h(greaterthan) to src/wndstatus.cpp.

(This is caused by changes in the interaction between the KDE and Qt header files. As you bring these issues up, I am correcting them in CVS, and the changes will be included in the next cumulative bugfix release. :) )

I've had it in the works for a while. I haven't quite figured out the kdm->kdm_frontend interface well enough to get it to work yet, though. If I ever get it working, it'll be here first.

Add a "#include (lessthan)qlabel.h(greaterthan)" to the top of src/ThemeEngine/MacClassic/ThemeMacClassic.h and see if that fixes the problem...

That might be a bug. I'll have to look into it.

(There does seem to be a slight issue with the way it handles the volume - Since the widget is forced-transparent, it doesn't erase/overwrite the old volume bar before drawing the new one, so it ends up looking strange. I'll need to thunk it over for a while before I can come up with a good solution to THAT one...)

Hey KDE-Look guys, one humble request. In your PHP code, when finished with a message post (such as this), instead of just displaying the page (which leaves the POST'ed URL in the browser page- which in aIEeeee, when not paying attention, reposts your data when you refresh), how's bout redirecting the user back to the content page? Something like


Header( "Location: /content/show.php?content=$content_id" );
exit();


should suffice... It would keep morons like me from dupe-posting all the time, at least.

The "Legacy" ThemeEngine supports KSplash splash screens 80% (no blinking icons). Unfortunately, I broke the Control Center Module working on trying to redesign it (to be more user-friendly), so it's kinda hard to figure out how to do it. In the meantime, you can download the Legacy mode themes which have been contributed so far, or package your own (it is pretty much a two-step process - E-mail me for details) and send them to me, and I will put it on the official website.


I am sorry that it's so rough around the edges this release. I figured that The Community didn't want to wait another 4 months for the next release, and I _really_ wanted to get this ThemeEngine code out for everyone to see. I hope to have at least SOME of the original configurability back in the next release....

I forgot to mention - KSplash2k requires you to have at least KSplash/ML 0.94, which was also released today. It is not compatible with 0.93.1, so make sure you upgrade /ML first.

Users who've gotten this running - Let me know what you think! Does everything work for you as advertised? Which system are you running it on? Any problems getting it to work? Have you tried installing themes? Etc. I want to hear as much info as you're willing to share, so I can start finalizing 1.0-RELEASE!

It's here! I've made VAST improvements to the codebase, and provided a few sample themes at the URL above. NOTE: The themes come with graphics which I did *not* create. If you are the author of a theme bundled here, and don't wish for it to be provided for KSplash/ML users in this way (or want it unbound from a theme pack), then send me an e-mail and I'll do your bidding.

As an interim fix, you can replace the line:


#include <kdesktopwidget.h>

with

#include <qdesktopwidget.h>


in wndsplash.cpp, and it should compile. I've put in wrappers around that #include in the code, but it may have been put in too early to make use of QT_VERSION. Let me know if this fixes the problem, and I'll put out another patched release. :) -dT- - Mar 13 2002

As usual, I missed some KDE3 vs KDE2 dependencies in this release. I will be adding #if wrappers to the code to solve these issues, and should be posting an update to the software tomorrow, which will correct any issues KDE2 users might have.

Yeah, there's a bug in the src/Icon.cpp file - Apparently, math.h is automagically included in my headers somewhere - If you add the line


#include <math.h>


(that's (LESS THAN)math.h(GREATER THAN) in standard #include format)


then it should compile. I keep meaning to fix that and re-release it, but want to whack a couple of other things first. My apologies for the trouble.

* "Upgraded" the windows "emulation" - Now includes "support" for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and the new, "stable" Windows .NET "Server".

* Working on adding a configuration dialog. It works ok, but doesn't accurately preview the selected item (causing it to do so kills kcmshell, should have that fixed soon ;).

Been too busy with /ML to work on Infusion lately. 0.61 is getting more stable. Yeah, it's a different scope project than KMail -- Geared up towards the Enterprise (ahem, "Exchange") user. It's not that far along, I'm afraid, but the server software (Citadel/UX) is _excellent_. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001

Hmmm, I think the "Status Screen" is close to what you want there.. I'd prefer not to clutter the startup process - End-Users can be confused by too much interaction... I don't think I'll implement text inside of the splash screen dialog, except in "Legacy" mode... Sorry. :) -dT- - Nov 16 2001
