I saw this picture in Panoramio and it's really nice. Norway is a really incredible and amazing country. :)

Do you have this picture in higher resolution? I would like to have it as my desktop wallpaper but my screen is 1680x1050 so 1024x768 is a very small resolution for it. It would be nice if you posted the picture in full resolution so each one could scale it to fit their needs. - Jun 07 2007

Why the hell have you switched the button order? Now it's inconsistent with the rest of KDE! If some user wants to have the buttons in a reversed order (s)he should change the setting for the whole KDE. Changing the button order just in one application is not a good idea. - Mar 17 2007
Kopete RPM for openSUSE 10.2

Chat & Messenging by bauerfichtner 7 comments

Why have you built Kopete for openSUSE 10.2? Does it have some special patch or something? Kopete is already included with the distro and for newer versions you may use the openSUSE Build Service:

There's Kopete 0.12.4, even newer than your package. - Feb 18 2007

Works well, I've been waiting for so long for something like this. Thanks!

Your style is really cool! I used Plastik until I discovered it, now my desktop is made of some kind of crystal polyester. It's a brand-new leading-edge-technology matherial. ;-)

Now seriously, have you thought about porting it to QT 4? There are already many QT 4 apps out there (and one will be out from my side on september-october ;-) ) and KDE 4 will be out sooner or later, it would be cool to enjoy the style in those apps as well.

AFAIK, there are no big differences between the API of QT 3 and QT 4 for the styles (there are in the inside and in other areas, but not much in the styles API), so it shouldn't be too hard to make it. - Jun 06 2006

Plastik for Firefox

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

No, I don't mind. After all, it's GPL. :)

To move the text when pressed you have to do it using CSS rules and some property like padding or margin. Add a 1px padding to the right and bottom for normal state and when the button is pressed change that 1px padding to the top and left. For example:

button label {
padding-left: 0px;
padding-top: 0px;
padding-right: 1px;
padding-bottom: 1px;

button:hover:active label {
padding-left: 1px;
padding-top: 1px;
padding-right: 0px;
padding-bottom: 0px;

If you didn't add the padding for the normal status, the button would be made bigger when you clicked it. But that way the size doesn't change and you get the effect you want.

In Plastikfox, take a look at global/button/button-img.css, lines #67 and #175. - Apr 12 2006

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

Oooops, I didn't realise you were talking about userChrome.css. Then copy preferences-rev.xml to the same directory as userChrome.css and add this at the end of it:

prefwindow {
-moz-binding: url("preferences-rev.xml#prefwindow") !important;

You know the plastikfox.jar file is just a renamed ZIP file, so unzip it and you'll find the .xml file in the "global" subdirectory.

I'm not sure if it will work outside a theme but just try. - Apr 10 2006
Plastik for Firefox

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

A theme for that already exists, it's "Default Crystal":

To reverse the button order, just copy the file global/preferences-rev.xml from plastikfox.jar to the theme you want and add this at the end of global/global.css:

prefwindow {
-moz-binding: url("chrome://global/skin/preferences-rev.xml#prefwindow") !important;

You still need to use the old method too for the dialogs that are not a prefwindow. - Apr 10 2006
Plastik for Firefox

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

Take a look at "global/preferences-rev.xml". The normal order in a prefwindow is cancel-accept. With the binding I change it to accept-cancel. You may copy it and then just add the proper -moz-binding in global.css. - Apr 10 2006

rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1
rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1

So I guess perhaps in the specfile there's a line saying:

"Requires: taglib 1.3.0"

Instead of:

"Requires: taglib = 1.3.0"

And thus the equal symbol (=) is missing. - Oct 03 2005

KDE icons in Plastikfox / Plastikthunder

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by djworld 4 comments

It only works with Mozillux themes because they have the icons organized in a way very similar to KDE. The default Firefox theme, as well as the majority of themes, have the icons distributed in different directories, so this program doesn't work with them. But as you can read in the FAQ, I don't discard making a native widget theme based on Plastikfox. This would mean you would use GTK-QT for the widgets and this program for the icons, having this way a Firefox well integrated with KDE. - Jun 16 2005
Plastik for Firefox

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

Plastikfox is a pixmap-based theme so it wouldn't be easy to change the colors, you would need to modify the CSS files and also edit the images with GIMP or something similar.

What will be much easier to modify is the icons, as I'm creating a program that automatically picks up your KDE icons and puts them in the theme, so there will be no need for different versions of Plastikfox with different icon themes. Check out the screenshots in the Mozillux web site. Perhaps in the future I could try to create a program to pick up your native KDE widgets (including the colors) but that would be much harder to implement and perhaps not possible.

Which version of TabMix are you using? It worked for me the last time I used it. Are you using more extensions? If so, try disabling the other extensions to see if it works now. - Jun 10 2005

I haven't made any theme to match the Active Heart style and I don't have plans to do one. It would require a lot of effort to make it and I think I would make a theme matching ThinKeramik first. Sorry. If any volunteers would like to start making a theme based on Plastikfox to match the look of Active Heart or any other KDE theme I will be encouraged to assist him.

Also, creating versions of Plastikfox with other icon themes is easier and in fact there's someone who's going to make a version with the Lila icons. If someone wants to take another icon set, send me an e-mail and I'll instruct him how to do it. - Jun 02 2005

Great! An ioslave will be cool. :)

Even using the current storage method, I think it would be interesting to hide it under ~/.kde/share/apps/lexeo. I find a bit annoying to have a directory visible in my home folder just for the purpose of storing it. I think the same for ~/Mail where KMail stored the e-mails. Fortunately, they recently moved it into ~/.kde in KDE 3.4.

Keep up your good work, I think it's a very interesting idea. - May 23 2005

System Software by bk12 10 comments

Having in mind the powerful architecture KDE has, I think it would be much better to create a KIOslave for the search function. You would type something like lexeo:/ and it would contain a "Results" folder, a "Keywords" folder with subfolders where you can find each content and create new keywords, and a "Search for" icon that would allow you to search for different keywords. It could probably be made in less than 500 lines of C++ code.

I also don't like the way it stores the keywords with symbolic links. I guess that's due to this is the first release. I would store all them in a rc file in ~/.kde/share/config or ~/.kde/share/apps/lexeo. It could be something like:

And if it's used with images, perhaps it could be possible to use the "Comments" field or another field in each image to add the keywords, and it could scan image folders in search for keywords. Obviously it would depend on the file format, but perhaps it's possible for some common file formats. - May 23 2005

I'm using Debian SID so it's XFree 4.3.0 and KDE 3.3.2 (when the hell are they going to update it to X.Org 6.8 and KDE 3.4?). The messenger and webcam keys don't work, but the rest do. They worked while I was using Mandrake 10.0, anyway, so it seems to be a Debian issue more than a KDE issue. I particularly find useful the "My Home" key to open "my home" in Konqueror. ;) - May 20 2005

I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop Optical keyboard and the multimedia keys worked well in KDE without this improvement, just by choosing the model from the list of keyboards in the KDE Control Center. This theme has also been there for ages. ;-) The first version was released on March 19th, 2004, as you can see. And it was based on Plastikzilla and Keramikzilla, released even earlier. So no, this isn't a rip off. I made it from scratch without any help (if we don't count bug reports). The icons are the same, yes, but they're just the standard KDE icons so it doesn't mean anything. And Plastikfox is much more complex than Mostly Crystal. - May 16 2005
Plastik for Firefox

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by djworld 167 comments

Do you mean it happens in this new version of the theme or it also happened in previous versions? I suppose it also happened in previous versions. Although it doesn't seem to, Plastikfox is a very complex theme with lots of bindings and tricks to make Firefox look just like Plastik. Sometimes things are not implemented in the most clean way, but because there is not a clean way to do it. It's not easy to make Firefox look like Plastik, and those bindings and tricks result in less performance. So that problem is not strange, but I can't solve it. At least Plastikfox is better than nothing. If you want a very fast browser with the KDE look, then use a KDE browser like Konqueror. Firefox is a program with his own toolkit on top of GTK (and I think the code is not very clean, by the way), so it's not easy to make it look like KDE without having an impact on the speed. - May 15 2005
