Mmmmh... what a pitty but thanks for your effort. Maybe in the future there is an option in dolphin to activate this manually.

Thanks for your work! - Mar 16 2012
Hey!
Maybe its my setup, but since a few days (sorry, dont know since when exactly), my treeviews in dolphin aren't animated anymore. With KDE 4.8 it worked like a charm. Now I have 4.8.1 and it doesn't work anymore. I don't know if it has something to do with 4.8.1. I have checked "Animate all treeview" in settings. Maybe it has something to do with dolphin update or is it a problem on my computer?

Best regards! - Mar 15 2012
Ok, thanks, now it works fine!

Thank you very much and merry christmas!!

Hey!

I updated a few days ago and now I have black frames in some windows. Here is a screenshot:

http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/2745/ms9xu3ws_png.htm (I mean this black frame with the white text "Arbeitsflächen-Effekte einrichten").

I looked at your last changes and I deactivated the Workaround "Override KTitleWidget look". But then this frame gets white.

Here is my config:

http://pastebin.com/ekMg8jB1

Any idea?

Ok I tested it and I have to say, that kwin is more fluid with this settings. Its good, but compiz is a little bit smoother and has more settings (e.g. I can set the effect-time for every effect). So I have to choose between a well integrated windowmanager with shadows (Kwin) and a more fluid windowmanager with more settings... ;) Hard decision, but the positiv thing is that I can choose :).

Best regards and thanks for your work! - Sep 02 2011
Thank you very much for your tips! I'll try this and hope it will improve the situation :).

Just FYI: I don't use the cube or fancy animations like this. Just normal things like expose, scale and animations for open, close, minimize, restore.

Best regards and thank you very much! - Sep 02 2011
Mmmh... Now I am sad ;)... Ok, then I have to get used to the lack of shadow, cause I don't want to miss bespin. Maybe someday something will happen and I have shadows again.

Compiz works here a lot better (more fluid) than kwin. I used kwin a long time. With 4.5 I switched to compiz, cause it was better. Than with 4.6 and to 4.7 I switched back to kwin, because Martin says Kwin gets an impressive performance gain. It works better with my card so I stayed with kwin. A few days ago I decided to try compiz again and I was surprised how fluid and smooth animations can be.

With kwin, my GT450M gets clocked up in the highest state, so on my laptop it needs more energy. Also when the card change to a higher mhz state, the effects from kwin are choppy. But also when I set my card to the performance state (to the highest mhz), some effects are sometimes choppy.

With compiz, the card stays in the lowest or 2nd state and the effects are more than fluid. First I thought they are choppy two, but I had to disable the option to autodetect my refresh rate. After that, I set it manually and now it works sooo smooth and my laptop is cooler (I have an i7 Q740 with an Nvidia 450m and 4 GB Ram).

Hope this answer helps you :) - Sep 02 2011
Hey!
I have a question. A few days ago I switched to compiz on my kde 4.7 setup, because it works much better with my nvidia card. All works fine but I have a problem. The plugin from compiz can't paint the shadows. Someone in arch forum says, that the kde4-window-decorator says the following:

BESPIN WARNING! Setting shadow to ROOT window is NOT supported

Is there anything you or I can do, to make shadows work with bespin and compiz 0.8.8? I loooove bespin and use it many years so I don't want to switch to oxygen.

Here is mine:

Ah f***.

Now KWin crashes like hell, when I use begeneric a few minutes. And it crashes often. Every 30 seconds or something like this. I don't know why. I can't reproduce it. Sometimes I go over my icontasks-plasmoid (the build-in version) to launch something and sometimes I do nothing. Here is my config, maybe it relates to this:

[Effect-GenericAnimations]

It is in my kwinrc. Also I activated this other effects:

-Eltern-Fenster abdunkeln
-Nach hinten rutschen
-Abmeldung
-Andmelden
-Bildschirmfoto
-Dashboard
-Gleiten (at desktop change)
-Transparenz

-Fenster zeigen
-Umriss
-Programmstartanzeige

I have a nvidia with the 290. driver.

Ok sorry for all this traffic, but now it works. Don't ask me why... But I deleted my whole KDE and I go through my whole config folders and deleted all configs and now it works! Sorry for the "panic" ;), it was my systems fault. The good point is, that I now have a absolutly clean KDE ;)

Best regards and thanks for your help! :) - Jan 30 2012
It also does not work, when I delete the whole .kde4 folder, so the error is somewhere else :(...

Best regards! - Jan 30 2012
Mmmh... yep the output is this, so it looks right:

[flo@linux-laptop ~]$ grep -i version /usr/include/kwineffects.h
the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or
(at your option) any later version.
#define KWIN_EFFECT_API_MAKE_VERSION( major, minor ) (( major ) << 8 | ( minor ))
#define KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION_MAJOR 0
#define KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION_MINOR 182
#define KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION KWIN_EFFECT_API_MAKE_VERSION( \
KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION_MAJOR, KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION_MINOR )
KWIN_EXPORT int effect_version_kwin4_effect_##name() { return KWIN_EFFECT_API_VERSION; } \

Maybe I should remove the .kde4 folder, cause I have also some plasma glitches (in systray I don't see the (i)-icon and I don't see the kopete-icon in tray. Also virtuoso goes crazy, when I acitvate nepomuk. :( So maybe it has something to do with the .kde4 folder. I report back, when I have time to delete and recustomize my kde.

Best regards!

P.S. The edit-menu for the begeneric-effect works like always. - Jan 29 2012
Yes I did it via makepkg and pacman -U.

In /usr/lib/kde4 I have:

kcm_kwin4_effect_generic_animations.so
kwin4_effect_generic_animations.so

Mmmh... for me the makepkg-log seems to be a bit short, here it is:

- Mmmh... what is the correct path?
- I did a restart, before I compiled it, so I think the lib was not outdated.
- run kbuildsycoca4. Check - did it.
- run "kcmshell4 kwincompositing" from konsole and watch for lines containing generic animations --> I get this:

kcmshell(6810)/kdecore (KPluginInfo) KPluginInfo::kcmServices: found 1 offers for "kwin4_effect_generic_animations"

I use Archlinux and installed KDE 4.8 a few hours ago. Don't know why I have those problems. :(

Hey!

Any idea why it don't work for me with KDE 4.8? I recompiled it and reinstalled it with KDE 4.8, but the systemsetting dialog says, that it can't activate the effect.

Best regards! - Jan 29 2012
Tested it with my settings and it works very well! Seems to be fixed! :)

Thanks and best regards! - Jan 23 2012
Ok, I will try the new version and see, if it fix the glitches. Thanks!

Hey!

Found a Bug with animated resize in the new version (0.7). When I maximize a window, all is fine. But when I minimize it and don't move the mouse, I have ugly artifacts. When I move the mouse, the artifacts are gone. I think it has something to do with the new repaint code, cause the screen get just repainted, when I move the cursor or something like this. Anything else works like a charm like before. I have an Nvidia with the blop driver.

Best regards! - Jan 20 2012
Thanks for fixing this in bespin! Now the resize with the maximize button is as smooth as with the window-boarder-double-click. Thanks! :)

Best regards! - Dec 30 2011
Ok, thanks! Nice to hear that! - Dec 12 2011
Oh my... Sorry, I forget that the sliding effect for the plasma popups is a effect and can be turned off (thought it was hard coded...). Now it works like a charme and looks very good! Sorry for this wrong error message! - Dec 12 2011
Hey!

Since the new release I have a problem with the popup effect for plasma. Its activated in the settings. When I click on e.g. the calender in my top panel, it comes out like it should. But when I click on it ones again (to minimize it), it goes back into my panel and then (when it is already minimized) it flickers up ones again for a few miliseconds. It is very hard to describe, but I hope you understand it. I had this bug a few releases of KDE already, but since then it is fixed.

Best regards! - Dec 11 2011
Hey!

Sorry for the late answer.

When I switch to oxygen as window borders, all work fine and smooth. I use Arch Linux and I activated raster manually when I installed my system. I set it back to native and now resizing works smooth (with bespin). Setting the window boarders to 0 have no effect. So it seems to be something with raster and bespin. Until now I had now problems with this combination. It worked very well all the time (better and faster than with native). Hope this helps you! :)

Best regards! - Dec 11 2011
Yes, both windows have the focus, when I maximize them, so there is no difference.

And for the second: Sorry, I have to say bespin. ;) I try another decoration and give you feedback about it. :)

P.S. New update, yeah! Time to compile and install it... :) - Dec 10 2011
Me again! ;)

We talked a few weeks ago via mail and I told you, that the resize via the maximize-button is a little bit sluggish, but with chromium it is faster. We ended at the point that the smoothnes depends on the content of the window. But now, a few minutes ago, I noticed, that when I double click on the window border (topbar), the maximize effect is veeery smooth, but when I use the maximize button, it is sluggish (as I already said ;) ). Any idea about that?

Best regards! - Dec 09 2011
Ahh ok, nice to hear that. Maybe the Kwin-Team around Martin is able to implement it for 4.8, if not, I am more than happy with the animation of combobox-resize etc. :)

In case of KRunner (not quicksand ;) ) it looks maybe sometimes a little bit strange to me, because the whole krunner and not only the bottom list of it gets resized, but I think there is nothing you can do, because it gets handled as a whole item.

So, I am excited about to see what you cast the next time out of your hat ;) (and how the development goes on :) ). - Nov 22 2011
Ok, thanks for your answer. You might laugh, but here is my story: A few seconds ago I realized, that the resize effect is (maybe?) mainly for maximizing windows via the window button. :D
I never use this button, because I work with non-maximized windows mainly. But I love this effect here for comboboxes or url-bars which gets smaller or bigger and also for non-maximized windows like the nvidia-config-tool or virtualbox, which changes their size sometimes. This looks very nice! If you can customize this effect for different windows / window-types like I wrote about, it would be even nicer but I understand that it is hardcoded atm and it is great. :)

No problem and I think your response-time is very fast, but I understand that you can't answer 24/7. I have also many days, where I can't response for some time.

Best regards and I hope you go on with your great work (bespin and begeneric)! - Nov 21 2011
Sorry, me again... After a restart, I saw that the resize effect behaves like before, so maybe it was a problem of kwin, because I changed the begeneric effect very often. But the questions from above are the same: Are there any chances to customise the resize effect (in future)? I know I ask a lot of questions, so ones again I hope its ok for you.

Ah ok, thank you! Its not just krunner, its also the dolphin-url-bar or other things. - Nov 21 2011

When I acitvate "Animate resize", krunner and other windows react very strange, when they get resize. So my question is: What option effects the "Animate resize" effect? How can I customize it? I noticed, that when I changed the settings from your standard-settings to my custom-settings, the resize effect also changes. But what effect-option effects the resize-effect? Is it also possible, that you can delay the resize effect? When I type something into the dolphin-url-bar, it resizes very often and so it looks not so good. Can I make the effect, that it just resizes after a few seconds, so that it just resizes, when I finished the entering of a pattern? Can I also change the resize parameter for different window-types? So that I can have one resize effect for normal windows and another one for url-bars like in dolphin or krunner?

I hope you know what I mean and sorry for the long text.

Hey!

Thanks for the new version. I installed it via AUR and tried it. First: Thanks for the nice resize-Effekt. I always hoped that it can be somehow implemented in KDE and the windows always resize in a nice way. Maybe you can improve it visually a little bit, but at the moment I have no idea how... :). The new standard settings overrided a little bit my custom settings so I have to customize them again, but this is no problem. I have just one question. Why do I have two times Leaving Current Desktop and Entering Custom Desktop? Where is the difference? I hope you understand what I mean. Here is the overview over my Animation-categories:

Aktivierung
Implicit Activation
Deactivation
Show
Schließen
Minimieren
Unminimize
Leaving Current Desktop
Entering Current Desktop
Leaving Current Desktop
Entering Current Desktop

So ones again: Thanks for your awesome work!

Best regards!

P.S. Oh wait: Is there a way to disable the automated resize effect for the krunner? There it looks a little bit ugly, cause every time I enter something new, it resizes and so it is bouncing like a kangaroo ;) - Nov 21 2011
Ahh, ok.
I played a little bit more with it and this is so great. Hope there are a few people in future who share there configs and effects! So nice! - Nov 07 2011
Mmmh... yes, the first and second one are already now possible. At the moment I don't have a problem with this and it all looks fine, but when you use very different effects for focus and activation, it can look strange when you open a new application, because the animations interfere.

Best regards!

P.S. And when you delay the focus animation its good by opening a new window, but its bad for just focusing a new window, because then you click on the window and the focus animation just starts after a delay. - Nov 04 2011
Maybe I understand you wrong, but I think this is not possible for my case. I have two different effects for activation and focus. Here are my effects for:

activation: 289:Scale:0:320:1,1.02:5:0:
show: 65503:Opacity:0:300::1:0:0,0;2048:Scale:528:300::2:0:0,0;17408:Scale:66:300::2:0:0,0;257:Scale:0:500:1,1.1:5:0:;32:Scale:258:600:1,1:7:0:1,0.01

As you can see, for activation the scale effect has just an amount of 1,02. The show effect uses a setting from 1,1. I don't want to use for both things the same effect, cause when I use 1,1 for activation, its too much for me and I get bumpy everytime I click on a window ;)

Hope you understand my problem. Maybe I oversee a setting or have a logical fail in my thinking and I can create it the way i want it...

Best regards! - Nov 03 2011
P.S. This is so amazing. With this little great thing I could make a lot of cool effects and now I have animations I always wanted!! The most I like is a roll-out and roll-in effect for dialogs. It is very cool! Thanks for your work! - Oct 31 2011
Hey!
I tried BeGeneric and I think it is very great! Thanks for that! One question: Is it in any way possible, that an opening window don't get the focus animation? Because the effects for focus and opening colide sometimes and it looks not so good. Maybe there is a solution?

Best regards and thanks for your awesome work!

No not in the effect-setting-window, but maybe on this kde-look-page (in the information area) ;). Another suggestion is, that the user can set the time, the slide effect needs to change the window, which is focused (I hope you know what you mean). At the moment the slide effect is a little bit to slow for me.

Best regards and thanks for your work! :) - Jan 08 2012
Maybe you said it anywhere and I didn't found it, but you should say the users, that you can center the view/strap by pressing meta+alt+space. A few months ago I suggested this feature and you implemented it (and I love it), so I think its important, that other people also now it. ;)

Ok this sounds very nice! I think it is very useful for some folders / documents. Thank you very much for your fast response and your work! - Sep 05 2011
Hey!

First: This looks very nice. But I have some questions: How does it work? I mean, where and how get the "old" files saved and can I delete some and not all old versions of a file. How is the impact of this software on the disk space?
