This problem bugged the hell out of me because I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't run when I had it working without a problem on my old laptop. Today I finally thought to check the permissions and made it executable and it finally worked. Not sure why I needed to do that, especially since yesterday I manually removed it and reinstalled it and the permission issue was still there this am.

I love having this service available. I actually found a problem in a file I got from a friend (who runs Windows) and I was able to let them know their antivirus missed something. - Jun 18 2013

I discovered today that I can't preview FLAC files with AudioThumbs. I made sure I have all the FLAC dependencies and to the best I can tell I have them all, and when I rebuilt the file from a fresh extraction from the tarball I didn't get any errors, but I can't preview FLAC files like I can for MP3s and OGGs. - Jan 04 2013
I recently rebuilt my LMDE + KDE laptop and tried to install this again but ran into a brick wall looking for taglib-extras-dev. After a mess of searching I discovered there's now a package in the Linux Mint Debian Edition repos called libtag-extras-dev which allowed me to install AudioThumbs. Never mind. An idiot unplugged my laptop and when I finally got back on I am able to see the BM image. Thankee! - Dec 16 2012
There actually wasn't an older build directory to use. I needed to recreate it to try applying the patch. But it still didn't work, plus I forgot to remove the Wikimedia engine as it's still dead. - Dec 16 2012
It wasn't a fresh extraction of the tarball but the only change to it was to disable the Wikimedia Commons info since that engine's been broken for quite a while. (See above comments about it.) - Dec 16 2012
I had to to a rebuild since I had dumped the build folder and when I redid the steps I noticed something in the terminal when I try to apply the patch. Here's the entire output in the terminal:

$ patch < BonjourMadame.patch

Perhaps you should have used the -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:

$ - Dec 16 2012
I applied the patch then went through the install steps again in the Readme.txt but I still get the Facebook icon instead of the BM image. - Dec 16 2012
It looks like either Bonjour Madame or Tumbler itself changed how the pages are coded and now rather than getting the day's BM image it's showing a Facebook icon. I'm trying to track down the proper url for the daily image and if I can come up with a solution I'll see if I can generate the needed change. - Oct 18 2012
On second thought never mind the fix request. It seems WikiMedia's site isn't updating for each new day so unless they fix their side this side probably can't be fixed too easily. - Dec 07 2011
Cool, I'll do that. Although I'd rather see it fixed because WikiMedia has some nice daily images. - Dec 07 2011
I recently built this from the source code to use on LMDE with KDE bolted onto the top, and I've noticed that whenever the plasmoid tries to display the pic from Wikimedia Commons it keeps the plasmoid from changing off the Bonjour Madame picture. Is there an easy way to fix this or disable using the Wikimidia Commons pictures? My laptop is often in an area where I really don't want the BM image showing up for so long. - Nov 26 2011

I got your Plymouth theme and had to make some changes to your instructions for my system. LMDE doesn't use /lib/plymouth/themes/ as the location for themes, it uses /usr/share/plymouth/themes/. I also couldn't get it working on my system until I read this post on the Linux Mint Forums (

Also, you instruction to run "sudo update-alternatives --install /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth default.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/Kmint-1.0/Kmint.plymouth 100" results in an error, even with the changed path. Luckily the instructions given on the Mint Forums got it installed, although I'm still having problems getting the progressbar to show up, but I'll chase that down later.

I've got some screenshots on a blog post I wrote to try to get the problem resolved in case you want to see them ( - Nov 27 2011

Ok, now this is really weird. I turned on debuging and tried to create a cbz with options and I didn't see the options window at all, nor do I see the file it created. I also tried making a cbz without options and a straight cbr, all to no effect. The path of the folder I'm working with is /home/bpeng/Music/Pink Floyd/Pink Floyd 1975 Tour Comic book but I copied it to my home folder and renamed the folder to Pink_Floyd_1975_Tour_Comic_book, and it still seems to work but I don't see the file anywhere.

Damn, there are blank spaces in the path in question. I guess I'll just have to use the Compress service menu for creating most of my comic nooks. Thanks for the quick response. I love KIM, in fact I just installed it on my rebuilt LMDE + KDE 4.8.4 box because I realized I missed having it. I'm finding that I can find some wallpaper images that are 1680x1050 that I want to resize to 1440x900. It's a direct resize and I know I could just let KDE resize it on the fly but I like to have my wallpaper images sized for my screen in case a wallpaper change comes when I'm already pushing my CPU pretty hard. Would it be possible to add 1440x900 to the list of available image resize sizes? - Jul 13 2012

I had Bespin running on my desktop machine but when my box died it took me months to get it replaced with a laptop. I was able to get Linux Mint Debian Edition + KDE installed but I couldn't remember "Bespin" for anything. Yesterday dawn finally broke on marble head and I was able to get it reinstalled. I'm loving going through the settings to see what does what, especially since I realized I could run the settings window as a standalone app with the demo feature. I've ended up creating a launcher for it so I could add it to my Favorites.

My one regret with finally running Bespin again is that there's really no good dox to explain what does what, although I suspect that's part of what Thalics Bespin Guide does. I don't have much time I could give to the project, especially since I'm way behind on translating the LMDE User's Guide but if I can help in any way I'd be more than happy to help. Bespin is way too cool an app to be hidden behind that lack of docs like this.

I'll be blogging about Bespin once I finish tweaking things to try and get the word out. Keep up the great work! I owe you a brew. - May 14 2012

I loved fortunoid so much on my old, dear departed, laptop that when I got a new laptop I made a point on installing it again. Except it would never work and I couldn't figure out why. Today I did a search on my blog to see if I had posted anything there and I found what I was looking for. My post Two missing plasmoids have been found ( reminds me that I used a different cmake line.
Instead of using
cmake ..

I used
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` ..

That's the command I used to install QuickAccess. I tried that just now and sure enough, I now have fortunoid on my desktop again. if anyone is still having problems building this they could try that cmake line and see if it works for them. - May 10 2012

I tried editing the widget file and it didn't work but I did find a workaround that does work. Go into ~/.kde.share/icons/[active icon theme] and duplicate the apps/utilities-terminal.png as terminal.png in each size. Change to another icon theme then back to your preferred theme and you should see the proper icon. - Jan 10 2012

I mean the longer (newer) :15 version of your sound compared with the slightly shorter :12 version I got yesterday from this page. The extra three seconds may seem a rather minor quibble but the way it starts now feels a tad jarring when I login to KDE. - Dec 30 2011
After checking the Mint startup sound again I realized I was thinking of the longer KDE systemlogin sounds, and your sound is much better than that one, although I still prefer the shorter (older) version. - Dec 30 2011
The new beginning of the sound is nice, but it feels superfluous after being used to the first version. As someone who's composed for solo piano it sounds like a great beginning of a piece but it feels unnecessarily long for a start up sound. Of course others may disagree with me, especially if they don't already use the first version of the sound.

After installing your sound I found the Linux Mint Debian Edition start up sound and I almost went with it instead of yours. Let me see if there's an easy way to share it with you. - Dec 30 2011
Is this an updated Start Session sound or is it for something else? I prefer the older Start Session sound over this one, but that may just be me. I'd love to hear an End Session sound though. - Dec 30 2011
