Hi, hope I am not too late :P

1) YES!
2) Yes (please)
3) I guess, but then doesn't that mean replacing KIO with gvfs? I would rather see two completely separate apps than trying to ride two horses at once, with potentially one version held back to keep feature-parity between them.
4) Is this because of (3)? In that case I propose: "FolderSync" ;) Seriously, it might not sound very cool but it tells me exactly what it does - that's how I found this app!
5) Am British so hate questions like this but sure. Some. Probably not as much as you need but some. - Oct 23 2020
KFolderSync

Utilities by Vindex17 56 comments

This is a great addition to KDE. A folder sync tool leveraging the power of KIO is something I'd learn C++ and build myself if you hadn't done it for me :) I love everything it does, so I'll only mention what I wish it also did:

1. Ability to take a profile as a commandline argument (allowing making a shortcut to run that profile, optionally without the main UI).

2. As others have said, if you have saved profiles, probably one should be loaded on opening (a chosen default, or just the first in list), then standard CTRL+N shortcut to start a new profile.

3. When picking source/dest, some remote locations (e.g. sftp://) could be easier to browse to: you need to either have the folder (or a parent of it) already defined in KDE's sidebar, or you must manually type out the full protocol URI (and hope you got it right as you can't edit it after). If I type the URI (or a folder above it) in the UI and hit Enter, it would be good if that location came up in the picker.

4. Dolphin/konqueror integration. Like being able to do an ad-hoc quick sync between two open panes in split-view (or open them in KFolderSync as a new profile) from a toolbar option or context-menu (KDiff3 shows an example how to do the latter).

5. Button to quickly switch source and destination.

6. Bi-directional sync. Only possible by keeping state-data in profile in order to know added files from deleted ones (like Unison does), so maybe this is out-of-scope, but would be a killer feature.

I'll definitely get a lot of use out of this app, further improvements or no. Thanks for your work! - Oct 23 2020

Plasma 4 Extensions by Goffix 124 comments

Hi,

Great work on this plasmoid, there is nothing else like it. But:

I am getting the certificate accept dialog on every login now. It didn't do this on first install (built for kde-4.5.1) but I did "something" and soon it started asking every time.

The server is dovecot-2.2 on a machine on my LAN, with the default self-signed certificate. If it matters, I am accessing the server via a WAN URL that resolves to the local machine via my local DNS server (don't think this should matter as it didn't before).

Have tried removing the plasmoid and re-creating it, account and all, but this doesn't seem to help. Where is the cert stored normally? - Oct 03 2010
sKimap

Hi, many thanks for this theme! It's been a permanent favourite of mine for a long time for its simplicity and reliability.

Unfortunately, after I updated to python-2.6 (and rebuilt PyQT and PyQT4 against it) it now fails with the following output:
Quote:
Kross: "Error error=Error when calling the metaclass bases
module.__init__() takes at most 2 arguments (3 given) lineno=81 trace=

I'm using kde-4.2.1, PyQt-3.17.6 and PyQt4-4.4.4 on Gentoo. Just let me know if I can be any help debugging.

Thanks,

Amarok 1.x Scripts by maacruz 274 comments

This script was invaluable to me in Amarok 1.x, I greatly look forward to its debut in 2.x but in the meantime, I still have rippin' to do!

Can you advise me what commands I'd need to run on a folder of mp3 files in order to get the same result as running "smart gain" (album + track gain) in Amarok? I run these:

mp3gain -rkp *.mp3
mp3gain -akp *.mp3

But I don't know if there's more that your script does (pregain etc. which I just leave on default settings in Amarok). How can I be sure to get the same results?

Thanks! - Mar 07 2009
Aero-G

Karamba & Superkaramba by AdrienV 63 comments

Hi, terrific theme I must say, but I have a couple of teething probs with it.

1) No configuration menu options on CPU theme

2) ACPI theme content is not visible at all (and no options, as above, if there are meant to be any).

3) net and net-wlan themes don't register any traffic.

I run Gentoo and extracted the AeroG base tarball into ~/.kde/share/apps/superkaramba/themes and opened each theme through the sK applet. I put the aerog-acpi contents inside the previous folder. Any of this wrong/bad, and how to debug?

Thanks, Robin - May 15 2008

Hi, thanks for this theme. I've used it nearly a year and it's perfect ;)

I have a small question. I want to re-position the theme to the bottom-right corner of my desktop, but whenever I reload it (or restart my desktop session) it jumps about 200px up/left. Is there a way I can make it stay put? - Jul 10 2007

Hi Nebula, good work on the login dialog. Looks great and does the job. Now, if you can tie it into the themes "configure theme" dialog I will be most impressed ;)

One thing: the theme is still listed in KHotNewStuff ( :) ) and when installing via the applet, the login dialog doesn't trigger. (I did remove the old version completely before installing.) This is on Gentoo BTW. - Jul 10 2007

This bothered me about this theme as well, but the author said he was not willing to work on such functionality (fair enough, I couldn't do it!)...

However, I found a sort of solution by accident. I now use compiz, and now when the theme is in the right corner and I activate a flyout, it goes "round the corner" onto the adjacent face of the cube. The main theme positioning doesn't move, and it's just a quick Ctrl+Alt+Right Arrow to view the flyout.

Hope this helps ;) - Jun 23 2007

Many thanks for a nice useful theme, it's just what I was looking for.

I do have a suggestion, though (maybe it's one you have planned anyway): account configuration could do with being a lot easier.

As far as I can tell, at the moment it's necessary to locate the .zip file (oh ya, shouldn't the ext be renamed .skz?), unpack it, edit a Python file, re-pack and launch the theme.

What a lot of other themes seem to do is place an additional config-file in ~/.superkaramba/, which is intuitively where I look for options that aren't in the GUI. Of course the ideal thing would be adding the user/pass config as a "configure theme" feature.

Lastly, while I found my answers easily enough by reading the comments below, it would be helpful if (in absence of the above) the info was put in the main description. I found this theme using the "Get new stuff" dialog inside sK, and the info provided there comes (I assume) directly from the description on this page. If you add the instructions there, people won't have to fire up their browser and search this site for the answer.

Hope this is taken in the intended spirit; thanks again for creating this theme. - Jun 23 2007
