For whatever it's worth, I am a hardcore Linux user and I don't have a bias against Windows themes. I actually like them, because I can duplicate them, yet know that it's now *free* software. Thank you for helping me test my script to convert Emerald themes to Aurorae themes. :) - Jun 13 2015

KDE 5 still supports Aurorae, so I've been working on a script that converts emerald themes to aurorae. I mostly have the vrunner engine working, but mapping settings between all the emerald engines and aurorae is not the easiest thing! - Jun 05 2015
Can you port this to work with KDE5 / qt5? - Apr 29 2015
Thanks! I've got blur working now.
- May 01 2011
It looks like someone responded to your bug post, and something else needs to be added to your code:

------- Comment #1 From Martin Gräßlin 2011-04-28 19:37:02 -------
The decoration has also to support the AbilityUsesAlphaChannel to get blur
behind the decoration. I just added it to the source code and everything get's
nicely blurred.

The only issue I've noticed so far is when I'm using a dual monitor setup. I'll give you the specific example I'm running into, as I'm not sure if it is just this prog or other ones too (and I'm not at that computer at the moment).

When I use the terminal program "terminator" on my right monitor, and move it to the lower left of the right monitor, so the left side of the window touches the left side of the right monitor, the left side of the Emerald decoration has visual artifacts. The artifacts remain even if I move the window afterwards.

I suspect it has something to do with a dual monitor config needing to be taken into account in your code, but I'm not totally sure. It's not a big deal by any means but I figured I would mention it.

Thanks again for an awesome contribution!

I had some app (and kwin) crashing with aero-large-drop on my new F22/KDE5 setup. I've since added some missing cursors to my local version of it, and haven't had crashes from that since. Any other people running KDE5 with experiences like that? - Apr 28 2015

Any possiblity of doing some type of export of a theme to gtk3 instead? Perhaps that's essentially the same thing, or maybe that's easier. Just a thought I had. - May 29 2011
And, from what I've gathered, it's also a bummer that your apps are coming up with *gtk3*. ;) - May 11 2011
This update fixed an issue I was having with Firefox and gtk with mouseovers. I wasn't absolutely sure it was a QtCurve issue which is why I didn't mention it. But, thanks again!

Excellent! KDE 4.5 / QtC 1.5.0 sounds like it is going to be a perfect fit. Thanks! - Jun 08 2010
Translucent gradients? Perhaps a third variable gets added to "Position %" and "Value %" called "Translucency %"? Perhaps this is not possible due to some restriction, but having semi-transparent window backgrounds would be so cool!

Thanks,

I like what's happening with QtCurve... This page is in a permanently open tab in my browser so I can update it right away when new features come out. Thanks again for an awesome style.

Thank you for making the backgrounds of windows and menus customizable! It's a new level of beauty in QtCurve. - Jun 29 2009
Opera x86_64, qt3, menus with standard gradient background causes nothing to be displayed in the menu. It's just a giant gray rectangle. qt4 and gtk2 seem OK with the settings though. - Jun 23 2009
Love the changes in 0.65.0! - Jun 23 2009
I like all the new options... very nice! Would you consider implementing "fade in" and "fade out" for changes when something becomes highlighted? Perhaps you could select a time between 0 and 500ms for the colors to go from normal to highlighted, and the same value could be used for fade out time. Could be painful to implement but figured I would ask.

Thanks! - Jun 10 2009
Nice work, thank you for the update! - Jun 07 2009
Bahhh.... turns out it was kinda my fault. /etc/qtcurvestylerc was only readable by root. So, you should be able to reproduce the issue by chmodding it to 400. If I chmod it to 644, everything works fine. - May 22 2009
I am attempting to set a default qtcurvestylerc that will globally apply to all users. Using strace I see that it checks for /etc/qtcurvestylerc /etc/qt/qtcurvestylerc among others. When I take my functional qtcurvestylerc from ~/.config and copy it to /etc/qtcurvestylerc, trying to start any GTK app results in a segmentation fault. I can post the file if you'd like, but AFAIK it is unremarkable.

Thanks again for an awesome style-

For anyone who is interested, here is a spec file I use to build qtcurve for fedora. Can't guarantee it will always be up-to-date, but it is at least a good starting point. This is a modified version of one I found floating around online.

Don't ask me about building RPMS... there is plenty of documentation out there about it! ;) - Apr 13 2009
Any way to add a optional feature like translucency to the backgrounds of windows, similar to this theme?

Thanks! - Mar 20 2009
Hey, no problem... it's the least I could do. I figured people were always too busy posting bug reports so you needed to hear some compliments. Every day, literally, I think about how much I like QtCurve when I use my system. It is so far above and beyond other styles. It really makes KDE/Gnome look professional. - Mar 13 2009
I think I figured it out. When drop down menus have "Shiny Glass" set, I encounter this bug. If I have it set to something else, it doesn't happen. Hope that can help you figure it out! - Mar 11 2009
I like the changes with 0.62.0. Very nice! - Mar 11 2009
I tried a few other styles, and none of them had the issue. So, perhaps it has something to do with the way QtCurve is interacting with the nvidia drivers? If you still would like the screenshot, I can send it.

Thanks again- - Mar 03 2009
I applied the fix, but the problem still occurs. It's gotta be the nvidia binary... I had updated that driver right around the time I updated QtCurve, so it really could be that. Damn closed source!
- Mar 01 2009
Ok, I did some more debugging, and I don't think it's a QtCurve issue. I have been using the binary nvidia drivers, but when I switch to the open source nv driver, I no longer have the issue. No surprise that nvidia drivers are behaving strangely. ;) Sorry for wasting your time on that! - Mar 01 2009
I can confirm that the tab issue has been fixed. The menu item issue is still present. I have a screenshot, but not sure how to get it to you! - Feb 28 2009
A couple issues I have noticed with the latest .61 versions (I am using .61.3) in KDE 4.2:

Tabs in Konquerer file manager have the right part of their text cut off, sometimes mid-letter.

In dropdown menus, as you run your mouse down it, the options is highlighted as expected, but when you move to the next option, the highlight only partially clears. The menu ends up with a bunch of "ghost" highlights. I've also noticed this behavior in the Konqueror configuration dialog with the tree view.

Thanks for QtCurve... it's a really nice style!

Yeah, I know it's soooo wrong, which is what makes it sooo right! Why not? Everyone at work thinks I'm running Windows 7 until I tell them it's Linux. It's the most customizable OS out of the box. You can do whatever you want with it. That's why it will always kick Microsoft in the a##, long after they are a has-been.

;) - May 27 2011
Go right ahead! - Sep 11 2010
Also, if you vote "bad" for this, you are retarded. "OMG, anything from MS is automatically BAD! ROTFLOL." Get off your religion and accept that MS does do some things right, even though they are a bunch of douches. I am hardcore Linux now, but I find it amusing to be able to emulate the proprietary BS, at no cost to you. And if you don't accept this new religion, then damn you! - Aug 13 2010

Sorry.. I goofed and posted my build problem twice. It was actually my error (because I am patching crystalclient.cpp with my own buttons). It compiles fine, but I did notice that if I set transparency to 75% in the crystal settings, average windows look fine, but the decorations on windows that have a transparent layer (like Konsole, gnome-terminal) are much more opaque, like 95%. Not sure if this is related to crystal or something else but thought I would mention it. - Aug 14 2009
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here or what, but I'm getting this error during build:

If anyone is interested, I have fedora packages for Crystal here:

I made a small change: I replaced some of the existing "Vista" window buttons with ones from Emerald (compiz window decorations) because they look more like the originals.
