Shouter-2.0, amaroK-1.3.9, python-2.4.2

I remember when it used to work, and absolutely *love* your script. I imagine that either the amaroK, or python upgrade broke it.

I posted an official bug report at:

1.2-beta4 broke m3u support for me. Trying to play a saved playlist causes everything to hang. Tags are not displayed from when a playlist is loaded from disk, but work fine when accessing the collection, and drag'n'dropping to playlist area.

Other then that, everything looks more refined. The only thing I would like to be able to do is remove some of the tabs from the sidebar--I'm a fan of spartan interfaces. (and I don't own a portable player, and I never use the "search", or "files" tabs) - Feb 01 2005

I like it. It's simple, and (mostly) gets out of the way of viewing a comic. The scaling looks smooth, and full-size comics are easily navigated. Is there any chance that one could see these features in the future:

1. Centered image when window is larger then image.
2. Optional black background?
3. A bookmark feature! I tend to read comics/manga a little bit at a time, and always end up forgetting where I left off. I think this is relatively easy to implement for directories, but for rar/cbq/zip's... I imagine it would be a challenge. - Jan 07 2005

Well, Steve Balmer referred to the GPL, Free Software, and Linux as "a mutating virus which contaminates everything it touches". His speech went on to say how Free software isn't free, it will end up costing a corporation more, it poisons a programmer's work ethic, is "un-American and a threat to our way of life", and that these communist hippies will eat your children...

So don't use Linux, it'll make you sick!

Personally, I like this wallpaper. (and am not American, and use Free Software, including Linux, so am already considered a virus by some..) When was the last time kde-look.org had photo from an electron microscope?

Doesn't kdevelop automatically take care of that sort of thing? Here's (imho) what looks like a good, simple example of how docs should be installed:

***./doc/en/Makefile.in***
$(mkinstalldirs) $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail
echo $(INSTALL_DATA) index.cache.bz2 $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/; \
$(INSTALL_DATA) index.cache.bz2 $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/; \
echo $(INSTALL_DATA) $(srcdir)/index.cache.bz2 $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/; \
$(INSTALL_DATA) $(srcdir)/index.cache.bz2 $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/; \
-rm -f $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/common
$(LN_S) $(kde_libs_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/common $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/common
$(mkinstalldirs) $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail
echo $(INSTALL_DATA) $$base $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/$$base ;\
$(INSTALL_DATA) $(srcdir)/$$base $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/$$base ;\
rm -f $(DESTDIR)$(kde_htmldir)/$(KDE_LANG)/kcheckgmail/$$base ;\
***End***./doc/en/Makefile.in***

This was found by:
for i in `find`; do echo "***$i***"; grep DESTDIR $i; echo "***End***$i***"; done

AFAIK, kdevelop was designed so that one can code more, and worry less about these sort of things. I would imagine that the easiest way to get things up to KDE3 standards, would be to import your current workbase, deal with the kdevelop warnings, then export the modern GNU-tools source-package. - Dec 03 2004
make install shouldn't touch anything outside of DESTDIR. I'm specifically referring to the ln -s /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/common to somewhere else. - Nov 30 2004

The "symbol" is the kanji for ki. (see title, filename, and hint to the left of the download link). Ki is analogous to chi in the same way that Aikido is analogous to Tai Chi.

This is my question:

Is this the standard Kanji? The 5th & 6th strokes (in the lower left) look a bit simpler then what I've seen in the past. The version I saw had a more vertical 5th & 6th, with two more little daubs on each side. (or was this an old-fashioned grammar, or non-standard?) - Dec 02 2004

I know they're low barriers--key word is "realistic". There's a better chance of them getting coded/accepted, if they're not hard to do. This is also kde-look, so all these things are looks/user-experience related.

1. This is useful for video editing. Ever try to find a particular scene amongst 10 or so hours of footage? The trick is to watch four quarter-size vids at once. A "normal" user might find this handy for making a screencap, or finding a quote.
2. This will be fixed in KDE-3.3.2
3. The reason this is nice, is because it saves ~20px of screenspace.
4. I can't find this on bugs.kde.org. I'm not going to post a report until I have a reasonable idea what it effects--if the scope is too big, I'll have to deal with this complexity or else leave the idea alone.

Here are low-res screenshots of old, and newer BeOS at:

A modern screenshot which demonstrates video, and the little green bars is here:

beta6 works great! Thanks. - Nov 23 2004
Correction, the filelight beta5 executable work. Filelight beta5 libraries still do not...the reason it was "working" was because beta5 was using beta4's libs in /usr. - Nov 13 2004
this was the first thing I tried. It removes the extern error, but I still got the:
part.cpp:26: error: declaration of `uint Directory::fileCount() const' outside of class is not definition

Can you believe that it worked once I omitted the line altogether!? More amazing still, is no functionality seems to be lost!?! The files are still counted in the lower-right-hand-corner of the window - Nov 13 2004
I get this error with without --enable-final, or --disable-debug, or anything like that. I wish I was better at reading C++... "uint extern Directory::fileCount() const;" from part.cpp:26 should be somewhere else, but I can't for the life of me figure out where. Interestingly enough, filelight compiles, and seems to work fine once this line is removed!!! - Nov 13 2004
I tried the suggested #include, btw - Nov 13 2004

First, check for the existence of this:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq

If found, get the CPU Mhz here, and skip everything below.

Now get the value of /proc/cpuinfo. Store it in a variable. ($CPUINFO will be used in this example)

Now, check for the existence of:
/proc/acpi/processor/CPU1/throttling.

If found, do this:

$THROTTLE = $CPUINFO/100*{the state with the star next to it)

else $CPUINFO is the most accurate.

The reason I mention all this, is because this app could be *super* useful for laptop users. Unfortunately, I can't help with testing... :-( - Nov 13 2004

I absolutely LOVE Dune, but this wallpaper doesn't grab me. You need to get rid of the subject, and replace her with a quasi-abstract National Geographic-like photo of a nomad who is indigenous to the Middle East... Preferable looking over his or her shoulder, with a bit of a frown; while standing about about 3-8 meters away. THEN colour the eyes. That would be a beautifull, and striking composition. (and would link Dune to our world MUCH more effectively) - Mar 02 2004

um, -mcpu=i686 is redundant if one is already using -march=i686. On the other hand, archlinux is blatantly elitest. On their own about page: "Arch Linux is an i686-optimized linux distribution targeted at competent linux users". That's sick. Personally I feel that your wallpaper lacks originality, and posseses the same baseless elitest attitude as the distro it represents. Do you also realize that "-march=i486 -mcpu=i686" produces code of equal optimization to "-march=i686"? The only difference is binary size. You shouldn't publicize strong opinions about things you don't understand, especially as an elitest. - Aug 17 2003

This background is art, as opposed to most of the locker-poster type backgrounds usually posted. th.cherouny has tastefully painted a piece that your draws your eye through multiple layers until the woman comes into focus right at the right time. This pic of "Rei" is a bit too young soft and "cute". I don't think I was ever obsessed with NGE, but I there's something that feels inherently wrong with this pic. This Rei lacks the incredibly sad existencialism-turned-dead-end suicidal tendency's of Rei. Then again, I suppose it is just a background, and not a bad one at that. Maybe I am obsessed after all. ;-) - Oct 17 2002
