had some troubles too so here's how i got it to compile
extract the file, go in the dir and type "make -f Makefile.cvs"
then enter the kwin directory
edit the files "Makefile, Makefile.am, Makefile.in" and comment out the line:
"noinst_DATA = changelog todoAKDC.txt shadows.txt" (it's present in all 3 files)
then ./configure , make, make install.
without editing the files i got an error, no rules to make changelog.

deco looks nice :) - Mar 09 2005

it's good to finaly have GL decos. It runs quite smoothly here, and it dident crash yet :)

I like the "animate on activation" feature a lot!
an other nice feature would be to be able to choose a background color instead of taking the wallpaper as background. Just to have a normal looking win deco, with the lighting gradiant, and the "animate on activation" feature.
An other nice thing (but i can imagine that it's difficult to do, and that it could higher the cpu load) would be to take a snapshot of the desktop to build the background texture, then you could even see the other windows in translucy (i tried to look into the code to see if it's doable but i dident understand much of it, i'm a newbie in programmation :)).

Anyway, thanks for your work! - Dec 23 2004

i don't know about your 2nd point, i think you're wrong with the first one. Opengl doesen't only accelerate graphics for 3D. Mac osX uses opengl acceleration doesen't it? did you ever see how fast and fluid it is?

Another simple example is the image viewer gliv (which uses opengl), on linux. Just try it out, open a 1600x1200 picture and rotate, zoom in/out, move the pic with your mouse, and you'll see it's faster than any other image viewer that doesent use hardware accelerated gfx. - Nov 28 2003
