thanks for the response. next time when this happens i'll try to find out what amarok is doing then :) - Aug 07 2008

quite often when quitting amarok, it fails to close. processlist shows that replaygain is still running.
i suspect that for some reason replaygain fails to close, thus preventing amarok from shutting down correctly.
can i somehow debug what replaygain is doing at this point ? - Jul 31 2008
Wiki-Lyrics

minor nitpick ;)
when the latest version is installed, it shows up as "wiki-lyrics" in lyrics category, but there's also "wikilyrics.rb" in the general category added. - Jun 27 2008

thanks for the replay. i'll try manually changing volume with dcop, but in the meanwhile a new remuco version has come out that again supports amarok - and in my short testing period i didn't see the issue, so it indeed might have been an issue with remuco itself :) - May 22 2008

how large is your collection and what database are you using ? if it's sqlite, you might want to try using mysql.
if you need further help, try asking at #amarok on freenode. - May 12 2008

Amarok 1.x Scripts by maacruz 274 comments

when i am using both replaygain and remuco at the same time, it seems that they fight over volume control - if i change volume through remuco in small steps, replaygain adjusts it back.
remuco interacts with amarok through dcop, so this might impact what happens.

the ability to change default level with volume control in replaygain is enabled and works, but remuco changes are negated. only if i change volume by large amounts, i can get it closer to what i want (but that's quite problematic).

can this be solved in some way ? - May 12 2008

Amarok 1.x Scripts by maacruz 274 comments

hi. a few questions that got me confused a bit :)

1. replaygain respects previous tags, even when rescanning whole collection in album mode (good). but does it know how to differ existing album/track mode tags ? that is, if an album is scanned in track mode, but a rescan works in album mode, will it be correctly rescanned ?

2. does album mode respect album grouping in amarok ?
for example, if two separate artists have albums with same name, are they treated separately ?
what about two compilations with same name that are grouped that way in amarok ?

thanks. - Apr 18 2008
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 143 comments

well, it is there already :)
script archive contains :
copycover-offline.py
this will run through your collection and copy everything.
whether it works with the latest amarok version i'm not sure. - Jan 03 2008

K Raid Monitor

System Software by gustl 17 comments

a good point about root, but it could be solved by only intracting with it, not running it - have it run at system startup only.

it has two additional modes besides email :

-p, --program, --alert
Give a program to be run whenever an event is detected.

-y, --syslog
Cause all events to be reported through 'syslog'. The messages have facility of 'daemon' and
varying priorities.

-p probably is the best, as you could have a systray/plasma applet and a simple backend which would notify the visual part that "it's time to flash".

obviously, support for more arrays would be welcome (and easier to do with mdadm), as even workstations tend to have several arrays now (for example - /boot, /, /home)

i know, i know, coming here and going about about features might not be the most helpful thing, but i can't code ;)

besides, i really have wanted such a thing to put on workstations so that user can be notified in time about failures. - Nov 05 2007
K Raid Monitor

System Software by gustl 17 comments

for servers just use mdadm in follow/monitor mode.
it already has this capability.
is see this more like something for workstations (where raid is becoming more common).

an idea for future - maybe this can be made more like a fronten for mdadm/smartmontools, thus enabling hdd monitoring for workstations ?

for servers we already have mdadm and smartd, but it would be pretty cool if users also could be nicely notified about hdd problems.

if this is possible, such a package should go in base kde distribution :) - Nov 03 2007
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 143 comments

using latest amarok with mysql & copycover, i also get the same error with offline script.

running the normal script only produces repeated errors (empty ones...)

amarok: [ScriptManager] [ERROR!] Copy Cover:
amarok: [AmaroK CopyCover Script] Received notification: playlistChange: changed
amarok: [ScriptManager] [ERROR!] Copy Cover:
amarok: [AmaroK CopyCover Script] Received notification: engineStateChange: playing
amarok: [ScriptManager] [ERROR!] Copy Cover:

could this be because of incompatibility with mysql, too ?

also, configuration has : "Remove from amaroK's cache after copy" - this probably should be changed to "Amarok's" ;) - Jun 27 2007

thanks for the explanation.
points 1&4 don't hold much, as kcalc with all additional buttons disabled is simple enough, but two other points are valid :) - Jun 21 2007

CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 143 comments

hmm... i am surprised it works for you with 1.4.3, as dynamic collection was merged in 1.4.2 ;)

maybe you have it disabled ?

anyway, the script (v1.7) does not work for me in current svn, as it tries accessing relative path without device.
for file in os.listdir(album_tuple[1][1:]):
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/relative_path/A/Alkaline Trio/Alkaline_Trio-Crimson-(Webrip_Advance)-2005-GCA' - Oct 19 2006
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

... and with 1.4.2 released (including dynamic collection) copycover script now does not work in a stable release - Aug 23 2006
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 143 comments

since the introduction of dynamic collection in svn copycover is not working :

No such file or directory: './data/m/A/Alkaline Trio/Stupid Kid'

dynmaic collection splits path in relative path & mountpoint, so probably copycover should be updated to work with the new condition.

if there are no huge problems, dynamic collection will be in 1.4.2, which will mean no working copycover. - Jul 20 2006

Amarok 1.x Scripts by JensRutschmann 7 comments

hmm. but setting "duration" of the builtin osd to 0 will leave it on forever (or until clicked).
field contents even are changed to "Forever" to reflect that :) - Jul 17 2006
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 143 comments

while using 1.6 copycover with svn amarok, it prints all the time empty error messages :

amarok: [ScriptManager] [ERROR!] copycover.py:

this does not impact it in any other way, as far as i can tell. covers are succesfully copied to the corresponding directories.
error is displayed when starting the script up and at every notification it is sent (track change, volume change etc)

--------------
a suggestion - provide the capability to use album name, but use some user-defined prefix. that would better handle situations when several tracks from different albums are stuffed in a single directory.
additionally, some control over album name translation would be nice - for example, album names can contain slashes/backslashes and other symbols that some or all filesystems can not handle.

--------------
if covers really are downsized when copying, i'd back hishuu's suggestion - to keep the original size. even amarok itself has a choice of 'show fullsize'

--------------
and thanks for this useful script :) - Jul 07 2006
amarok Anti-Geeking Jukebox

Amarok 1.x Scripts by noquarter 7 comments

this is really great utility, but what's the current status ?

it would be nice to have some customisation, to be able to show upcoming tracks from the playlist and maybe queue, if one exists.

also, giving the ability to control amarok only might be useful in some cases (turning the computer in sort of jukebox-only). maybe even limiting amarok controls available ;)

oooh, i could write a quite long list of features to make this script really great ;) - Apr 12 2006
