This is awesome stuff. Have you any plans to add more components, like inductors?

Also, another cool thing would be an automatic PCB layout generator. Although this would be quite complicated!

Cheers for the great app! - Jul 15 2005

I'm used to using Mathematica, which is more of a "notebook" type program. When you type commands into the console it spits out what you typed in into a more elegant form, ie like pymathml draws things.

However, it also lets you edit things in that form.

It wouldn't be at all _easy_ to acheive this with a KDE app at the moment.

As far as I am aware, there exists no KDE/QT widget that can render MathML, let alone let you edit it.

I have plans to hack together something that I can use to replace Mathematica altogether for use in a Physics lab.

Mathematica is super ugly, not to mention closed source. It's also completely unusable and very unstable. Whoever designed Mathematica's GUI was not a human.

For me, using yacas would be great, since it does calculus for you. Such as integration, differentiation. I guess this isn't required for simple algebra.

But it is something that I need, and will probably integrate into what I plan to hack together.

The basic features of what I intend to code are:

-> Maths notebook XML file format (using XML)
-> Nice MathML rendering using pymathml
-> Plotting using: http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html
-> Some calculus stuff with yacas.

Although I am currently coding 2 open source projects so this will have to wait for the time being! - Jun 26 2005
nice stuff. i was recently thinking that it would be nice to have a program similar to mathematica, running on kde.

Although currently I have no code. I did a fair amount of research into what would be needed..

Have you any plans to integrate KAlgebra with a CMS, like yacas? http://www.xs4all.nl/~apinkus/yacas.html

Also, there is a python library for mathml called pymathml that is supposed to be able to render MathML: http://pymathml.sourceforge.net

If you have no plans for these I may try and base something off of your work. - Jun 26 2005

Try using "Remote Desktop Connection" in KDE, and enable "Desktop Sharing" on the machine with the burner and K3b.

This allows you to remotely burn CDs. However you are going to have to go to the remote machine anyway to put the CDRs in. So it sort of defeats the point really?

Unless you have a CD burner that automatically loads a new CDR for you? - Jun 18 2005

This is nice. I think its important to realise that video editing is an area with Desktop Linux that really needs work.

The more video editing software the better.

Codeine is sweet.

I have been using kaffeine, but it has become _painful_ to use kaffeine recently. It skips every few seconds. And takes ages to load.

Codeine is a refreshing change! Much smoother, faster and more responsive.

I am experiencing some crashes however, though I imagine that its a problem with xine-lib or something.

Another thing... Its all well and good me whinging about this without opening an editor to code it myself. But gstreamer support would be excellent.

Gstreamer is great from within amaroK, but it seems to f**k up KDE. So I end up using artsd engine instead. - Apr 14 2005

Permanent fix:
export KDEDIR=/usr/kde/3.4/

(as root)

More info:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-277809-highlight-kdedir.html - Apr 14 2005
You need to add an option to ./configure

./configure --prefix=KDEDIR

where KDEDIR is where KDE is located.

On gentoo, this is:
/usr/kde/3.4

So for gentoo, I do:
./configure --prefix=/usr/kde/3.4 - Apr 14 2005

Hey, this is really, really nice. I just tried it today. And it makes the kicker look much nicer, ie less cluttered.

Problems:

1. The config box is messed up here. Only on the "General" tab. I get the right and bottom of the central widget missing (the widget that contains the slider and check boxes)

Thankyou for making this! Do you have any idea if this will get merged into kde?

Merry Christmas! - Dec 24 2004
