Amarok 1.x Scripts by attendant 126 comments

The following steps fixed this for me:

1) download, compile, and install libutempter from here: http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/libutempter-Download-4132.html

- unzip to a directory
- open a console/shell there
- run "make"
- either run "sudo make install" or "sudo checkinstall" (I recommend checkinstall method... it will make and install a .deb package for easy removal at a later date if necessary)

(I know, softpedia isn't the best place to download source from, but it was the most straightforward choice google gave me and it worked too.)

2) I then got an error about libnfsidmap. You will need to install the package called "libnfsidmap2"

3) I got an error about libldap. You will need to install the package "libldap-2.3-0"

The real question now is why are all of these libraries required all of a sudden to transkode audio files... - Jan 07 2008

KDE Personal Wiki

Groupware by HuntsMan 13 comments

I have recently found a pretty nice program called Zim which is very similar to the KDE Personal Wiki.

If both programs use normal wiki markup then they should be compatible (haven't checked into this yet)

I was also thinking that Zim might be a nice place for getting ideas for features. It seems to have an interface that is a little more robust.

Any thoughts? - Nov 19 2006

My real motivation for making this was due to the fact that playing mp3's over xine backend programs (amarok, kaffeine) doesn't work in the least, and no one seems to mind (I've reported the bug several times).

The one thing I would think many users will try to do if they have multiple computers in their household and are networked, is play an mp3 from say, their desktop while using their laptop.

And yes, the fish protocol is great, but doesn't work with amarok or kaffeine.

I suppose the other advantage of this is that programs that don't support kioslaves (command line programs, gnome-based programs, etc) can also access the shared files seamlessly. - Nov 07 2006

- any chance for creation of links within posts?

- may be an installation issue, but right click > help gives me help page not found error.

Amarok 1.x Scripts by attendant 126 comments

Kubuntu Dapper Drake, with the amaroK media player patch from here: http://reserv.at/transcode-0.4-mediadevice.diff (referenced here: http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/Media_Devices#Transcoding )

./configure works fine.

When I run make, it progresses fine for a while, then I get this:

--paste--
libtool: link: only absolute run-paths are allowed
make[3]: *** [libtranscodewidgetsplugin.la] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/erik/Desktop/transcode-0.4/src/widgetsplugin'
--end paste--

I was able to trace this back to a problem with the QTDESIGNERDIR and thus the qtwidgetspluginsdir set to a null value.

So I installed qt3-designer (should this really be necessary?), and I got past this error to a bunch more (after another ./configure run):

--paste--

This one was a bit more complicated and I didn't really know what to do, although it all seems centered around flacdialogbase.h and flacdialogbase.cpp. Any pointers?

Or, when can we expect a release of the patched version?

no need for a burn option. Really I didn't do much of the work. dvdbackup does. All I made was this front end to it.

I get the same error.

Also when I try to compile this from source, I get the following:

make[3]: *** [libtranscodewidgetsplugin.la] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/erik/Desktop/transcode/src/widgetsplugin'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/erik/Desktop/transcode/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/erik/Desktop/transcode'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Please help! I really like the idea of this tool. I miss the powerful command line transcoder from foobar2000 and it seems this is a suitable, if not better replacement! - Jan 05 2006

Is it at all possible to reduce the menu quality, in order to allow more room for the recompressed movie(s)?

If not, is this a planned feature? - Oct 31 2005
