Also, I found that there are two great programs that do something similar to this:
Baghira starter (included with baghira)
and Katapult.
So, rather than reinvent the wheel twice, if I do anything it will be toward improving those projects. - Apr 05 2006

I've posted here before. Recently, wlassistant often wont pull the gateway address for the wireless router, and I have to manually set it via
ip route add default via (gateway-address) dev wlan0
Does anyone know why this happens? Is there a fix? - Mar 29 2006

Do you know if there is a way to have the kmix icon reflect the volume level of the mixer? That would be pretty sweet. - Mar 27 2006

I just thought I'd let you know this bug seems to be more network specific. At my work office, we have a WEP encrypted wireless network. From here I can connect without any trouble at all, and it doesn't report that the connection failed.

My school does not do WEP encryption, nor VPN. It authorizes clients by their mac address, and redirects all http requests for unauthorized mac addresses to a webpage prompting them to log in. The connection reports failed in wlassistant, even though I've already been authorized on the network from a previous connection (my school only prompts me once a day)
Additionally, here is my routing table information (for my allegedly failed connection) :
10.4.76.0/23 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 10.4.76.193
default via 10.4.76.1 dev wlan0
My network card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller. I'm using the windows drivers for it via ndiswrapper.
Thank you,

My distro is Fedora Core 4. I am using the livna yum repositories for the libdvd* packages.
I installed all of the packages as specified (including the accompanying *-devel packages), and ran into two problems:
1: compiler couldn't find dvdread/dvd_udf.h
2: ld : cannot find -ldvdnav
To resolve the dvd_udf.h problem, I downloaded the file libdvdread-0.9.4.tar.gz as provided here, opened it up and copied dvd_udf.h to /usr/include/dvdread/. Fixed
To resolve the ld: cannot find -ldvdnav problem, I went to /usr/lib/ to check for the existance of "libdvdnav.so". To my surprise, the package only installed the file "libdvdnav.so.4.0.0" and a symbolic link "libdvdnav.so.4". To resolve this problem typed this
su -
cd /usr/lib/
ln -s libdvdnav.so.4 libdvdnav.so
Then, i did a make and it built find and dandy. - Jan 19 2006

I'm already aware of the "execute command" feature of kde. I wasn't aware that you could type in web addresses, however. That's neat!
Still, the execute command doesn't quite do what I had in mind. Personally, I feel seeing the results pop-up like that with the icon and everything makes the application easier to identify, without having to scroll for it. Sometimes there are applications in the start menu that aren't exactly 5 letter commands (like windows applications installed via cxoffice, for instance).
The Baghira starter does what I had in mind. It's intuitive and simple to use. It's looks great too. Yay. If I do any work toward this, it will most likely be contributing to the starter. Thank you all again. - Jan 03 2006

interesting idea on the tabs. i suppose you could click quick-folders and have a list of other "bookmarked" folders appear a la quick browser?
i don't know if i'd be so excited about the extra steps that it introduces to get places though. lets see some more feedback on it? - Dec 23 2005

First (after compiling, following the instructions in INSTALL), I ran moto4lin as root. Then, I went into the preferences, and did an "update List" in the USB view under connection preferences. I found my phone in the list, and clicked both buttons "Set as AT device", and "Set as P2k device".
now, when I plugged in the phone, it would see that the phone was plugged in. It would say "Try to connect", then fail. I was frustrated.
Then I opened up the preferenced dialog again, and blanked out the values for "AT" device - because I thought that was getting in the way. Now the program only said "Phone connected as AT" and not "Phone connected as P2k" when I plugged it in. I knew I needed it to connect as p2k, because that is the file transfer protocol that motorola uses (I think AT is for modem connection... using it to dial up internet service).
So, here was what finally got it to work. I opened up the preference dialog, clicked "update list" in usb view, found my phone, clicked the "Set as at device", and then changed the value for AT Product ID: to a bogus value. I hit ok, replugged in my phone and, HURRAY! It only recognized "Phone connected as P2K'. I clicked connect, and it successfully connected.
Kind of a long description, but, I hope that helps anyone else who runs down that same path.
