Sorry, I met to say that SuSE doesn't have gcc 4. - Dec 27 2005
No, SuSE 9.3 does not have Qt4, only Qt3.

If you could get me a debugging version that would be great. I really enjoy KCheckers and would very much like to get 0.8 working on my machine. - Dec 27 2005

I should point out that when I compiled and installed Qt4 I got no errors and that all the tests included in the Qt4 package ran correctly.

Thanks again for your help. - Dec 27 2005
I tried to install KCheckers-0.8 on my SuSE 9.3 system. I have Qt4 compiled and installed in my home directory, so I reset the PATH variables as follows before compiling KCheckers so that SuSE's Qt3 default would not be used:

export QTDIR=~/Qt4
export PATH=~/Qt4/bin:$PATH

(Note the "~" is the tilde characters)

I then ran:
qmake -o Makefile
make
make install (as root)

The program compiled without any errors.
However, when I run KCheckers it starts up fine, but crashes when I try to make my first move. The Konsole shows the following error message:

jsnyder@JBS_ALIENWARE:~> kcheckers
Your Locale: "en_US"
Prefix path: /usr/local
Loading Qt translations failed.
Loading KCheckers translations failed.
Object::connect: No such slot myTopLevel::slot_enable_history(bool,bool,bool)
ASSERT: "item" in file itemviews/qtreewidget.cpp, line 1957
Aborted

Is there anyway to fix this problem so that I can use KCheckers-0.8? Thanks. - Dec 27 2005
I finally noticed that this problem only arises if I have "Confirm aborting current game" checked under the Settings menu. If that is checked then kcheckers continues to run even after you confirm your intention to quit and try to close the game. If that option isn't checked then kcheckers exits properly without error. - May 10 2005
I upgraded to kcheckers-0.6 on my SuSE 9.3 pro system. I got the program compiled by doing:

qmake -o Makefile
make
make install (as root)

It seems to run OK, but I can't get kcheckers to close when I am finished with it. The only way I can get it to completely stop is to kill the process manually. What am I doing wrong? Please help as I like the new version, but if I can't get it working I must revert back to kcheckers-0.5. Thanks. - May 03 2005
I was able to compile kcheckers-0.5 on SuSE 9.1. To do so I had to execute the commands:
qmake
make
make install (as root)

The ReadMe file says to do "make qmake", but that generates an error. Doing simply "qmake" in the first step worked for me. I then used checkinstall to build an rpm.

Question: How do you use the new server feature? I didn't see anything about that. - Aug 08 2004

I was able to get it working on SuSE 9.3 as follows:

1) I intially got an error about a wrong version of autoconf while doing "make". To avoid this I rebuilt configure manually by running the following:

autoheader
automake
autoconf

2) I then ran:

./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
make
make install (as root)

Doing this the game appears to run fine and shows up under games in the KDE menu. - Jul 05 2005

For some unexplained reason it started working again, well sort of. I still have the yellow triangle, but if I left click on it I can now select United States and see the radar, satellite, etc. The center mouse button does cause a large size popup of the radar, satellite, etc. as is normal. However, whenever I press the center mouse button I also get a tropical storm page poping up that has nothing to do with the weather here in Wisconsin. Is there some way to clear that behavior? I tried deleting and reinstalling the liquid weather ++ theme, but that didn't help. - Jun 09 2005
I am in Waukesha, WI in the USA. I get my data from weather.com. The Yellow triangle is still there tonight. A left mouse click seems to do nothing (I don't get the normal menu). Center mouse click brings up a tropilcal storm page. Thanks for your help. - Jun 09 2005
I've been using it for a long time and it has worked very well for me. I am currently running v6.2 and had no problems until yesterday. The small icon in the upper right hand corner that I normally click on to see a weather map has changed into a yellow triangle with an exclaimation point in it. Nothing happens when I click on the triangle. I tried running superkaramba in terminal, but I didn't see any error messages when liquid weather ++ loaded. What is happening and how can I fix it? Thanks for a great program! - Jun 09 2005
I am having exactly the same problem running SuSE 9.3. Has this problem been fixed? I never experienced this before upgrading to 6.0. I would really like to get the weather radar map picture back. - May 22 2005
I upgraded from 3.6.1 to the new 3.7.1 and a new problem has appeared. In 3.7.1 when I click on the radar antenna I can select what I want to see (say the satellite view) and it correctly pops up in a small image. If I then middle click on the radar antenna a second time the image just goes away instead of getting larger like it always did before. This enlargement feature worked fine in 3.6.1, but it doesn't work for me in 3.7.1. Thanks. - Mar 10 2005
I am using the new 3.6 version and my city is Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA on weather.com. Everything appears fine with one exception. When I press the center mouse button (mouse wheel for me) to get the hour by hour display it shows the wind speed in KPH instead of MPH. All the reset of the display shows the wind speed properly in MPH. How can I get the hour by hour data displayed with the center mouse button to show the wind speed in Miles Per Hour instead of Kilometers per Hour? Thanks for a great program. - Feb 08 2005

Yes, I did configure with ./configure.gnu. Could the problem be that SuSE linux uses /opt/kde3 as the path (prefix) to KDE apps? I initially compiled ksquirrel and its library with the --prefix=/opt/kde3 option in configure, but ksquirrel then wasn't able to find the libraries. I then went back and compiled just using ./configure.gnu with no --prefix= parameters and it compiled and worked fine. I don't think anything gets put into the KDE menus on SuSE if you don't set --prefix=/opt/kde3. Any advise on this point? I can always add it to the KDE menu manually if there isn't a configure option that works. - May 17 2005
Does ksquirrel have an icon for the KDE menu or desktop? I compiled it on SuSE 9.3 and it seems to work great, but it did not get added automatically to the KDE 3.4 menu system. I added it to the menu manually, but I need an icon for ksquirrel. Is there an icon and where is it located? Thanks for a great little program! - May 17 2005

Yes, your suggestion works and solved my problem. Nice program. - Oct 07 2004
I tired to install on my SuSE 9.1 Pro system. I followed the instructions in the Install file for the latest (10/6) version. Here is my output:

jsnyder@linux:~/Software/passwordcreator> qmake -o Makefile passwordcreator.pro
jsnyder@linux:~/Software/passwordcreator> make
cd src && make -f Makefile
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jsnyder/Software/passwordcreator/src'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/qt/3/mkspecs/linux-g++/qmake.conf', needed by `Makefile'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jsnyder/Software/passwordcreator/src'
make: *** [sub-src] Error 2

It seems that the Makefile is looking in the wrong place to find qmake.conf. On SuSE the qmake.conf file is located at:

/usr/lib/qt3/mkspecs/linux-g++/qmake.conf

How can I fix this problem to be able to run "make"? I looked in the /src/Makefile and manually reset the path, but still I get this error. Thanks. - Oct 06 2004

I compiled kslide 1.0 on my SuSE 9.1 Pro system running KDE 3.2. The program compiles and installs from the source code without any error messages. When I try to run the program, however, nothing happens. I just get the hour glass icon on the KDE desktop, but nothing appears on the screen. If I check the running process table kslide is listed and running, but I see no signs of it on the KDE desktop screen. I have to manually kill the kslide process to get the program to shut down. Am I doing something wrong? - Aug 15 2004
