If you want it to live on your desktop, try dragging the .desktop file to the desktop! An icon will appear (thats what I call KDE4 goodness!), that you can resize and do the same things you would to a plasmoid.
There was a "turn off screen and suspend" plasmoid that I used for a while, but it was a little obtrusive to my taste because you couldn't make it smaller than 200x100px, so I opted to use this approach.
Hope you can make it work the way you intend it.

One could also create the shortcut directly using khotkeys, but you should make sure the script never changes place, and i found that after every "cleanup" some things would stop working because I deleted the scripts... Adding it to the menu, moves the desktop file inside the .local folder, where its virtually impossible to accidentally delete it.
Glad you liked it, and yes, we are running the same code, different launcher :D - Dec 31 2009

And youre right, file transfers dont necessarily belong to the workspace and i have them disabled from the notification area just like you do...
I guess my point is that the notification system you've created looks to me much more appealing than the kde one, and probably i should think of making the default one prettier and more like yours, than making yours behave like the default.
Thanks for replying. Keep up the good work! - Dec 18 2009
I only wish it would work with file transfer notifications.... and i want to contribute, the problem is that even tho i've done simple things in c++, i dont think i'm up to the task of adding it myself. Are there any ways for me to contribute? Im develop in Java and Python, and maybe this is a chance to get into c++, i just need some advice, because i really want this feature...
Thanks in advance! - Dec 18 2009
Thats actually a super cool idea! I had no clue that acpi had that feature... I'm currently testing the auto resume on my computer, hopefully i'll get it working reliably and then add the functionality to the script.
Thanks a lot for your suggestion! - Nov 26 2009
Thanks for your patience!
(to make amarok work, you can delete $HOME/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts but you have to be aware that it will delete all other scripts also) - Apr 30 2009

I have no way to reproduce this, cause the configuration the making and the install went fine, no errors or anything.
My setup is:
kde-3.5.7
qt-3.3.8
gcc-4.1.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.2)
Any help will be appreciated - Jun 24 2007
