several Service-menues

Dolphin Service Menus by dan-linux 18 comments

It would be nice to have the source available on kde-look as well. I clicked on the second link where I assumed I could find the source code but I'm not so hot at German, like I don't speak it or read it.

Its great that you have put together these service menus. I've been waiting to see service menus start to show up for Dolphin/konqueror. So after I extract it I'll be sure to try them out.

BTW are all these service menus also in German? - Jun 04 2009

Bootsplash Various by Chrispy 9 comments

Splashy is not Debian specific. I knew Debian users were a little more snooty but I always understood them to be very intelligent when it comes to Linux. Hopefully the Ubuntardization of Linux doesn't spread to Debian as well. - May 02 2009
yaWP (Yet Another Weather Plasmoid)

Plasma 4 Extensions by PlasmaFactory 1198 comments

Its great to hear that panel support is being added to this widget. IMO weather widgets take up lots of space and the desktop must be showing to see it. I loved kweather in KDE 3. It would be nice to have a widget so informative and small. - Jan 27 2009

According to this plasmoid the temperature in my area is colder than it actually is. Compared to Kweather or Google, it is on average seven degrees difference. Does anyone else have this issue? My zip code is 83401 if that matters. - Nov 24 2008

Moodin (Engine) + Themes

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by moodwrod 244 comments

I have always loved moodin. But I have also always thought that flashing icons on a splash were kind of tacky.

What are the chances of adding the ability to do a progress bar or a small animation into the functionality?

What do other moodin users think?

Thanks! - Oct 31 2007

KDM Theme Manager

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by smileaf 237 comments

First of all I love the theme manager. Its great and you have done a wonderful job. But there is one thing that I think would be great to have as part of the theme manager and as part of kdm.

gdm has the ability to have the themes be "selected only" or "random from selected". I personally really like this. It gives me the chance to make some personalized themes and have it be a surprise every time I turn on my laptop. however, gdm uses more resources when running kde under it.

I think it would be something worth looking into. At least see what other users think. - Oct 27 2007

Another option to take a screenshot of a gdm theme is to use gdmthemetester.

This picture looks awesome. But just one question, are you sure you can publish it under GPL? you put your copyright in the corner. Thus you technically violated your own copyright by saying it was GPL.

OK. a little in left field, I just thought it to be ironic.

Skinnable Amarok. I like it. I don't think it would create such a mishmash of different themes and style but instead offer more choice, which is what Open Source is all about anyways. Windows Media Player is skinnable, as well as XMMS and WinAmp. This is a great idea and hopefully Amarok will include something similar to this in the future. However, I would always like to be able to easily go back to the original theme. - Nov 30 2006

Chat & Messenging by Sho 91 comments

After the release of xchat 2.6 up from 2.4 I noticed a lot of things that really made me wonder about their development process. The seem to be taking the graphical settings out of the graphical irc client. Being so disgruntled with them I started looking for alternatives.
I like Konversation. It is not as full featured as Xchat but I'm sure over time it will get there and hopefully surpass Xchat.

Thanks for all the good work! - Oct 08 2006

I'm gong to vote this one down. I'm not doing it because of the half nude woman. I am voting you down because it looks like you put this together in MS Paint. The obvious blacking out of what may have been the copyright is very bad. Which brings me to another point. GPL? WHATEVER! Also the picture looks like it has been streched from a lower resolution. The quality of the picture itself is nasty. Forget the nudity, this is just a bad compilation. - Aug 05 2006

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by vprasanth 8 comments

Interesting splash screen. I think it is great that you are trying to contribute. But there are a few things about this splash that really dont work.

#1 - The fact that the women icons on the bottom are blurry is really annoying. I wear glasses. I wear them because I don't like looking at blurry things. I personally think that if the icons were to appear when it is that icons turn instead of having a blurry look to it then the picture would look better.

#2 - The icons are in a bad spot. If people wrote software like this nothing would ever be stable. Line up the icons so that it does not look stupid with half an icon flashing. Test it before you post it.

You will always recieve better ratings if your splash screens look good when they start up. I hope these suggestions help your future contributions to look better. - Jan 02 2006

I like them. however being a musician myself I would say that the startup.ogg file ends quite abruptly. It should end in a cadence of a ii-V-I. or a vi-V-I. Then it would sound pretty. Other than that it all sounds great. Keep up the good work! - Sep 09 2005

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by robertmhuey 8 comments

Personally I like it. You did a nice job

However I must disagree with posting it on this page. I have some splash screens that I would never post here simply because of the content and for the respect of those who do not wish to view such content. I set up a free webpage and put them there. I add a link to those splash screens that may be offensive on every splash i will post here and inform people of what it is. That way people don't get upset at me for posting something that they may view as crude but it is still available for those who would like to see or use them. Anyways, that is just my opinion. It takes respect to get respect. - Jan 21 2005

This is just my opinion and observation.
It looks to me as if the gear is tilted to the rear while the eye is tilted to the front, giving the whole picture an offbalance look. If you can find a gear that is more vertical I think that would help a lot. However this is a great job. I like it. - Jan 19 2005
