to get the taskbar running seamlessly like that, open the registry editor in your VM, and go to

\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

create a DWORD Value in that key called "NoDesktop" and set its value to 1.

Then, when you run the rdesktop command, launch "explorer" with the seamless rdp program inside your VM. - May 28 2007

i started with a totally transparent image, chose the gradient-fill tool at about 55% opacity and went from black to white downward (you can adjust the intensity of the gradient by how far out of the image you begin or end the fill). then selected a strip along the top and used the same tool to fill downward, white to transparent. took like 2.5 minutes. - May 16 2007
